I'm pretty surprised that both Griezmann and Simeone will be there next year. Remarkably, the transfer ban likely kept them around, which is counterintuitive.Griezmann re-signs with Atletico. Now has a deal through 2022.
Its going to cost even more next summer to get him.
what does the transfer ban mean to them?I'm pretty surprised that both Griezmann and Simeone will be there next year. Remarkably, the transfer ban likely kept them around, which is counterintuitive.
They don't really need to add another elite level talent unless a top notch striker comes available (read: Costa) or an elite box to box midfielder. They have the talent to compete in each competition, just need some consistency. Not integrating new players and no major summer tournaments should also help.
If they could get costa back... damn. They can't, until the winter. But like Barça did with Arda, they could sign a player, pay their wages, have them in training, but not put them into a game until the winter. It sucks to sink money into a player that's only going to play a half season, but if the contract is 4 (3.5) years, then it might be worth it.
But like I said, there aren't a ton of holes in the squad. I'm not exactly sure what it would take to win against this Real team consistently. Neutralizing Modric's movement, Kroos's passing, and Casemiero's defensive plays in the midfield is a tough ask.
They still have not been scored on after 8 games this round.Iran officially qualified for '18 joining Brazil and Russia.
interesanteThis would be awesome to watch if they took it seriously. I don't know Spanish but this is basically saying Argentina is going to try the old fashioned 2-3-5 formation against Singapore![]()
====================

If memory serves I think this was the very first formation I ever played in when we did an 11 on 11.omgomgomgomg... inside strikers and all!
I think you're right in terms of names. That was the same formation I used too in my first league.. 1978If memory serves I think this was the very first formation I ever played in when we did an 11 on 11.
I am trying to remember the names of the 5. I think it was 2 wingers, 2 inside forwards and 1 striker but my memory is likely off.

Christos FC
This may have been posted, but what a fantastic article about the team that never trains, but rarely loses.
The plumber in the liquor store lowered his nearly empty can of Natural Light and laughed.
Collin Fisher, the starting right back on the team that doesn’t train, had just been asked how he stays in shape. Sure, Christos FC’s most tenacious defender plays pickup indoor soccer games on occasion, but what about off the field? Did he lift weights? Belong to a gym? Ogle a treadmill?
“The last time I ran was probably in high school,” he said.
***
Following their Open Cup win in Chicago, they said a group of opposing players shook their heads when they saw a cluster of Christos players roll up to the hotel pool lugging 30-packs of beer, one day before their rematch in a separate tournament. And several players said they went out the night before a national final in Milwaukee last summer, then won despite coping with an early red card.
Have to admit, I did laugh at this:30 Million for Jordan Pickford? Seems steep even in the EPL for a GK.
So how much will Sissoko be sold for this year? I assume at least £30m, its the Spurs way.Have to admit, I did laugh at this:30 Million for Jordan Pickford? Seems steep even in the EPL for a GK.

£30m for Jordan Pickford doesn't seem so bad when you remember it's what Spurs paid for Moussa Sissoko, and Pickford is a better midfielder.
That's the English National tax...30 Million for Jordan Pickford? Seems steep even in the EPL for a GK.
I totally forgot he's English. Disregard...That's the English National tax...
I have not read it yet - but Wenger pointed out the issue last summer - English teams will be stuck with players because they either have to subsidize their wages for another team, or eat the costs for a player who does not play. Either way it was going to quickly escalate out of control for the big squads.Per the discussion yesterday on transfer values:
http://www.espnfc.us/blog/transfer-talk/79/post/3142806/premier-league-elite-forced-to-deal-with-rivals-due-to-wages-lack-of-options
Yup...the only real "transfer value" on for players are the uber-elite and young-up-and-comers. Anyone who is a "squad" player at a top 6 EPL team basically has zero (and in some cases in the loan market, negative) transfer value.I have not read it yet - but Wenger pointed out the issue last summer - English teams will be stuck with players because they either have to subsidize their wages for another team, or eat the costs for a player who does not play. I did not give the full information here as I was only looking at the current round of games. They still have not been scored on after 8 games this round.
I'm a veteran of this formation. Good times!!I think you're right in terms of names. That was the same formation I used too in my first league.. 1978
yeah... there was a long time when it was pretty much all you saw. there was a little run of 4-3-3, but the 4-4-2 was omnipresent. I remember my senior year of college we went a 3-5-2 as a way of counteracting the 4-4-2 (why have 4 guys back defending against 2 forwards?) , and my brain nearly exploded. You guys in your cool formations suck. I never played anything but 442 from youth through high school, including club/travel teams. As a LB all my life, the only time I saw the opponents box was on corners or set pieces.![]()
... how on earth were the 2 defenders supposed to defend that?Trying to think back and I am not sure what we ran outside my freshman year, but it was probably either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. Between club and HS its hard to rememberyeah... there was a long time when it was pretty much all you saw. there was a little run of 4-3-3, but the 4-4-2 was omnipresent. I'm still not exactly sure how the 2-3-5 was supposed to work. we ran it with a flat 5 across the top... how on earth were the 2 defenders supposed to defend that?
damn I feel old. Finally got around to reading this. Here's an interesting piece I saw on TVC - for those interested in youth development, US v Europe: https://www.totaalvoetbalconcepts.com/mind-the-gap/
To explain what I mean by this I give the following example. I see many younger kids in academy programs in the US who can only dribble with their dominant foot, and I don’t mean predominately dribble with their dominant foot I mean their other foot rarely touches the ball. But some of these kids are good enough on that one foot that they score a few goals etc at 9 or 10 yrs old and they are anointed as a great player. But in Europe many would see what the child is lacking and know that a 9yr old doesn’t have the defensive technique to counter this type of play but the 16 yr old does so the great US player would not receive such glowing reviews in other places until they could demonstrate a more rounded game.
I would say that from a physical viewpoint I was pretty far beyond my Dutch counterparts and I was different from a psychological viewpoint but not more or less advanced. Where I was extremely lacking was in the technical and tactical. This was not as evident when I first got to the academy as it was in my second year. My physical abilities allowed me to put pressure on the other players they were not use to so they didn’t have the technique or speed of play ability to counter my US in your face very aggressive style. By the second year they were at the point that their technical and tactical abilities made my physical advantage a non issue. They had a better sense of space than I did and they would move me around by their off the ball movement so I was always out of position, sometimes only by a meter or two but that was enough. I was “effective” at 13 and irrelevant by 14.
From what I see in the US most coaches are not age appropriate and do not understand basic learning principles. This causes them to prepareadhoc sessions that are purely reactionary to a deficiency they see. Rather than a well thought out development plan that spans years. Coaches need to understand that players need to be instructed in age appropriate ways. The teaching or coaching techniques for a u9 player differs greatly from a u16 player.
I didn't see much box in HS either.Poke_4_Life said:You guys in your cool formations suck. I never played anything but 442 from youth through high school, including club/travel teams. As a LB all my life, the only time I saw the opponents box was on corners or set pieces.![]()
Laugh? It was an excellent header for the goal by KDB. Thats the kind of header that gets people talking about how dominant Fellaini is in the air.
Matchday 1 without any really juicy matchups. Arsenal v Leicester maybe? Newcastle opens with Tottenham.
that clump at the bottom of '14 wc games not featuring the US or even Mex is interesting.this lists all the most watched soccer games in US history.
