I guess my general question is for a corporation that is bleeding cash, why bid on something and keep it streaming only
I think it is because this is the way of the future (and very near future at that).

ESPN can purchase many more properties, especially ones that likely cost very little like the various Cup competitions and then start to build their streaming portfolio up.

For me personally, ESPN3 is a god send, it shows so many games that would never get a chance to get on the air otherwise.

Have you seen what BEIN is showing? Personally I think it's an attempt to

a) starve BEIN into submission

b) get into the good graces of FA for the next bidding round of EPL.

ESPN3 blows away beIN in my opinion.  99% of the games are free and can be accessed on every device in my home.  beIN forces me to purchase an extra Direct TV package to get it.

As for the next round of EPL contracts, I don't think the EPL cares about good graces when doing this.  They simply want the most money from whom ever will give it.

In fairness, I'm not sure Birmingham, Hull, and Middlesbrough aren't at least as depressing as Chester, PA.

I mean he "used to play in London" to the same extent he now plays in New York and LA.  Only as a visitor.

:droppingEurosnobKnowledge:
my knowledge of birmingham is limited to the aston villa youth training complex... but it was- as the locals said frequently about any and everything- "lovely, isn't it". this was more suburban though- there wasn't any city to be seen from where we were.

Precourt caved on the season ticket refund for Columbus

=========================

COLUMBUS – Anthony Precourt, chief executive officer of Precourt Sports Ventures LLC (PSV), owner of Columbus Crew SC since 2013, today offered the following statement regarding 2018 Columbus Crew SC Season Ticket Memberships:

“I understand that the recent announcement on October 17th and subsequent media coverage surrounding the Club have created a difficult period for those who have passionately supported Crew SC. I also understand that the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Club is of concern to our loyal Season Ticket Members who have pledged support for the Club year-in and year-out. No final decisions have been made about the future of this Club and Crew SC will play at MAPFRE Stadium in 2018.”

Continued Precourt, “I remain hopeful that our passionate supporters will cheer for the Club under these difficult circumstances, but I recognize that some of you would like the opportunity to secure a refund for 2018 MLS regular-season season packages purchased prior to PSV’s recent announcement. Effective today at 2:00 p.m. ET and up until 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday November 3, we will provide 2018 Season Ticket Members with a window to secure a full refund for 2018 Season Ticket Memberships should that be your preference.

The very least he could do.

Austin City Council meeting 11/9 to discuss possible sites.

There will be a story to tell about the MLS2ATX scarf I wore around town today. Either a keepsake because the team came to town or a funny memory like the Austin Swing baseball cap that I have from a minor league team that never happened.

awesome ending to the Rangers Kilmarnock game yesterday

* Rangers up 1-0 in injury time

* Rangers drew a penalty

* Kilmarnock player upset with Rangers player who drew penalty engages him

* Both players receive yellow card

* Ref then discusses with AR and changes Rangers card to Red

* Rangers miss PK in 95th

* Kilmarnock scores equalizer in 96th minute

Tweeted out a photo of this scarf today. Apparently, some people in Columbus are not happy with what's going on judging by a couple responses. Did y'all know that?

My agent said we'd had a serious offer from Tottenham. I said: 'Who?'

Speaking about Robbie Keane

Robbie was so passionate, always running, while I ran in my head

Two daughters, aged 7 and 5. And I have two guns for whoever comes to date my daughters.

Before the game as I warmed up I went to the toilet. There, I decided to put that message on my shirt. All good ideas come in the toilet.

:lmao:    I love Berba

@Kafka
My, is that backhanded!

Its been a helluva season...The top 5 teams only have a combined total of 4 losses in 54 games.  Unfortunately, Roma chose this year to rebuild, but their only two losses have come to Napoli & that other team from Milan :yucky: .

"The plot thickens..."

Becks is having a press conference tomorrow with the tag line "Big things coming"

I assume it is something related to Miami but with the lack of progress down there for so many years who knows....

A judge in San Antonio is asking his DA to start an investigation on MLS in terms of a conflict of interest.

The idea behind this is that MLS encouraged the local county to purchase Toyota Field and put in an expansion bid for San Antonio all the while knowing that Precourt had plans to move to Austin and was also sitting on the expansion committee.

A Roadkill Continuing Education Moment this weekend -- James McLean is widely reviled in the isles (I could have done more with that, I know) for his refusal to wear a poppy on his jersey for Remembrance Day. And staged a mini "God Save the Queen" protest when West Brom visited the states last summer.

I don't know how I missed all of this in four previous Novembers following the Prem.

Its been a pretty big deal - most brits despise him for not honoring the poppy - and have no sympathy for his rationale.

The British Army shot 14 innocent civilians dead in the neighborhood where he grew up in January 1972 and, presumably, McClean feels that he would be letting his own community down if he wore the poppy to honor the army dead.

He chose to play for the Republic of Ireland, rather than Northern Ireland, because of the political turmoil and sectarianism his community experienced during ‘The Troubles.’

Families in the Creggan and the Bogside spent almost 40 years campaigning for justice for their loved ones, until they finally received an apology from then British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in 2010.

In their particular communities, the notion of honoring the British Army dead still seems absurd.

"People say I am being disrespectful but don’t ask why I choose not to wear it,” said McClean this week. "If the poppy was simply about World War One and Two victims alone, I'd wear it without a problem.

"I would wear it every day of the year if that was the thing but it doesn't. It stands for all the conflicts that Britain has been involved in. Because of the history where I come from in Derry, I cannot wear something that represents that."

A county judge in Texas isn't really a judge. More like the head executive officer of the county government. Which makes it a weird title.

MLS has firmly denied this one.

They booed him every time he touched the ball last weekend.

The investigation seems meaningless to me since nothing can really come of it.  It is the responsibility of that government body to do its own due diligence before purchasing a stadium.

That being said I have no idea what MLS is denying.  They knew Precourt had the out.  They knew that San Antonio had submitted an expansion bid while Precourt was already talking to Austin and they continued to let Precourt sit on the expansion committee until everything became public.  Seems kind of meaningless to deny what every one sees as clear as day now that the facts are public.

MLS denying that it misled San Antonio regarding investing in Toyota Stadium. This whole story leads me to think that San Antonio never really was a contender for expansion.

From what I understand from reports, Xolos has not paid its players for 2 months, Coudet stood up for his players and resigned. #LigaMXeng

Xolos to San Antonio?

I think I'm at the point where I hope FC Austin fails. It's sad, because I support MLS, but I want that tosser and all the twats (Garber) who work with him on this to go up in flames.

did you guys see this?  Some guy spoofed Mark Abbott's (MLS president) email address and pretended to be Abbott  during an email exchange with Precourt President Dave Greeley.

The coach of Serbia was fired this week even though Serbia has qualified for the  World Cup.

It looks like Veljko Paunovic, the Chicago Fire coach, is one of the names being considered to take over for the WC.  Paunovic led the Serbian U20 team to the World Cup title a couple of years ago.
