Also saw an article that the English FA is considering a cap of some kind
If you could elaborate on what you mean it'd be useful as I'm not getting it, but the FA don't have that much of a say on anything anyway. They don't run the leagues here, at least above level 5
I misspoke.

EPL.

Ah, I assume this is the "anchoring" suggestion which would affect nobody's ability to spend unless they wanted to spunk more money than the GDP of a small African country. Not actually clicked the link as the source is unreliable but if we are talking about the same then it'll do nothing really, as the teams that might breach it are likely in Europe and hitting this and not hitting the UEFA spending limits seem impossible at the same time

Just saw there may be a big MLS vote tomorrow. Hope this passes.

From the article -

The plan is for the MLS regular season to span from mid-to-late July or August to April, with playoffs staged in May. The league would take a winter break in December and January. Games would likely pause from around the second week in December through the first or third week in February. MLS understandably is trying to avoid restarting the league on Super Bowl weekend.

There would also be a summer break in June and July.

----

On the business side, a calendar change would move the league’s most valuable property, the playoffs, to a far more attractive window in the spring — both for in-person and television viewing. The playoffs would no longer be up against college and pro football, and, importantly, would not be disrupted anymore by a FIFA international window.
As a season ticket holder, I really hope this passes.

I wonder what the vote count was. I wonder if some of the northern teams balked at this?

I can see pros and cons so I will just wait it out. However, I do have to acknowledge that whenever MLS makes a move that brings them closer to how the sport looks world wide they seem to do better.

I heard the new format is going to be a single table but still with divisions...not sure what that means though....

It is suppose to start in 2027....which scares me a bit. Are they really going to take 7 months off from the end of 2026 to the start of the fall 2027 season right after they hope for a WC bump?

oh, I see the plan now.

The league is going to play a condensed season in the spring of 2027 and have a quick MLS Cup in May before the new format kicks off later in July. Here is information in a quick video form:

They are officially calling it MLS 3.0

Read that they are planning to do a Feb-May stretch in 27.

Some big keys to this monumental #MLS announcement:

- 91% of matches will fall within the current MLS season window.
- The league intends to limit the number of home matches in northern markets during December and February.
- The new calendar will significantly reduce conflicts between MLS league matches and national team call-ups.
- Obvious transfer window benefits that mean offseason signings from top leagues into MLS now make an immediate impact to the season.

I think this is similar to how Russia and the Scandinavian countries run theirs. Big break in the middle for snow. A 2-2.5 month break is a long time. Will be interested to see if it passes and how it might work for MLS.
Sweden/Finland/Norway are all summer leagues. First two are finished, Norway has two weeks left.

Only the 2nd one looks Finished to me.
