***OFFICIAL*** Steelers 2011 Thread (1 Viewer)

[rant]

I find it absolutely amazing how uneducated some Steelers' fans can be(not talking about anything going on in this thread).

I frequent several Steelers' forums, and you wouldn't believe how knee-jerk some of the reactions are. Already classifying this draft as a bust because a CB wasn't taken. Already classifying this entire draft a bust because an OLiner wasn't taken. Etc., etc. etc.

It's like they haven't been watching this team AT ALL for, oh, the past TWO DECADES or so...but I know for a fact that most of them have. It's maddening. The types that won't even, for one second, admit that Heyward is at the very least a viable player and good fit for Pittsburgh's scheme. I wasn't in love with passing on an OT, but even I will admit there is little argument to the contrary that Heyward just "fits" as a Steeler. Or those ignoring that players drafted outside of round #1 become, quite frequently in fact, legitimate NFL starting caliber players. Eeeeesh.

Sorry....I needed to do that. :) Maybe I should just mosey about here for about a week and leave those other places to their own devices. It should improve my blood pressure, if nothing else.

I asked this a couple days ago 5ish but is there still a message board on the Steelers site?? I couldnt find it when I looked the other day.

...agree with what youre saying. Listening to a sportstalk show out here in Altoona, and people seem to either like the pick or say "well we need a shutdown corner a lot more than a backup DE"...Newsflash - the shutdown CB line closed about 12 picks earlier. Its like if the Steelers took Williams or Harris everyone wouldve been happy because we got some CB that Ike Taylor would bow before his greatness.

I'll be extremely happy if we trade up for Ras-I and a little less happy if we take Brown

Figured Williams would go within the first 5 picks, didnt think Ras-I would....Patsies getting him is just more salt in the wound....MOFO SOB's

I don't think anybody is saying that Heyward sucks and will be a bum for the Steelers. Hell he could be a pro bowler in a couple years and hopefully he does. But anybody who watched the Super bowl know why they lost the game. They didn't lose the game because the Packers were able to control the line. The Packers won because they were able to throw at our secondary with absolute ease. And a number of teams did that last year.

With Dowling and Williams off the board, this secondary is now down to Brandon Harris who is a reach and making sure they resign Ike Taylor who is overrated to begin with. Are you confident with William Gay and McFadden as our starters? Or do something they hardly do and just aggressive with free agency. Whatever form of free agency it is

I like that we continue to take the best steeler player rather than reaching for OT and CB. I really liked the pick and was quite happy they passed on Williams who I don't think was a fit for us.

Well there goes the quality cornerbacks.

I hope the Steelers go for some pashrushers now because that is only way to hide our secondary now. But remember our corners are not the problem with this team

At this point, I wanted Curtis Brown or Kenrick Ellis but I can live with Gilbert...Gilbert+Pouncey might help the line sync better early possibly??

For anyone who thinks he might be a "slow" guard type... go look at the videos from the position workouts for all the top OTs from the NFL.com. He moves left and right, mirrors and uses his hands as good, if not better, then any OT in the draft not named Tyrone Smith.

Every year during the draft when out pick goes on the clock I dial 9-1- and keep my finger poised.....assuming eventually Idiot Boxer is going to stroke out on us when we inevitably pass on OL.

So, is it safe for me to take my finger off the "1" button on my cell phone now? :)

If we can get a cb in rd 3, I'll get delirious
I will not be surprised if they go interior line (O or D) in the 3rd.Marcus Cannon or Clint Boling anyone?
I'll take Marcus "Lymphoma" Cannon in the 4th at earliest
I agree to a point... but lymphoma (depending on type) can be curable.Marcus' had his diagnosed very early and is known to be a treatable kind. If the doctors are cool with it, Im cool with it.

Ellis in the third would be interesting. They had him in for a visit.....

At some point though, they have to take the corner. That had a passel of them in for visits and Colbert/Tomlin seemed to allude to the idea that they'd be taking more than one this weekend. It'll be interesting to see what happens the next two rounds in that regard. Could they go CB/CB in 3-4?

They may very unwilling at drafting a corner they don't believe will play immediatley as a starter. This will force a free agency look for some veteran help. Which could have been the plan all along.Or as you pointed out, take multiple corners (because we are this late in the draft) in hopes that they can find a gem ready to help now. But they did that couple years ago and it didn't work out.

I havent checked up, but is it Hodgkins or non-Hodgkins Lymphoma if you know? Its definitely treatable, and they arent on the same plain, but Cannon's Lymphoma worries me less than Clayborn's Erb's Palsy and Bowers apparent peg-leg. Lymphoma is treatable. Cannon might not play this year, but if he slides, he seems like a Steelers guy and the illness makes me hope they give him a chance

So am I. I would  Cannon next to Pouncey

its NON Hodgkins

And FTR Jared Gaither OT from Baltimore is assuredly available in free agency now.

Though we don't likely need him with Starks, Gilbert, Colon and Flozell on the roster.

FYI non-Hodgkins is worse than Hodgkins...Both are treatable, but just sayin
