They had the numbers with Woo, why did they care what Abi wanted?
Well, if you can get a consensus, you're much better off with the next vote.

Thing about Varner saying he was loyal to Tasha and Savage - all three of the people there voted how they said they were going to vote. Tasha and Savage knew exactly who was voting for who. So the intent to be loyal to Tasha and Savage was the same for all 3. Meanwhile, Varner voted against his initial alliance, flipped back, and in the next vote was all for splitting his initial 4-2 tribal advantage in half. Of course, Woo is too dumb to put it like that.

Amazing that Abi has become a power player, and done so by people fearing her crazy. Wonder how she feels watching this, all the eye rolls etc.

Varner was the vote tonight because of injury and cunning. And, we don't know the whole story as the tribe could have been putting on a show even though they knew the vote was Varner. However, Woo missed one here tonight.

Varner "I'm loyal to you all and I'm not a physical threat."

Woo "I'm giving my word to be loyal. Keep me."

Tribe "who do we vote for?"

Woo "Let's do this. I'm putting Abi's name down. Why don't you two vote with me and get Abi out. Then, Varner will be loyal to us since Abi is gone. We keep the numbers, strength and loyalty while we lose Abi. That's a win/win.

Tribe "Varner it is!"

Where is some strategic game play?

This happens on this show and BB. Everyone seems to kowtow to the crazy person just to avoid the crazy. Here's an idea, vote the crazy out.

Yeah, Abi's not a power player. She's a crazy person that everyone knows can't possibly win the game. If you can keep her in line with shallow gestures and a little ego massaging, she'll never be a threat.

Now she can obviously turn on a dime, so you've got to be aware of that. But she has no actual power in the game. Everything she does is pure emotion and everyone knows it.

I'm surprised they are trying to reign in and control the crazy, but oh well. I don't think it'd be worth it to try and play with Abi since you have zero clue who she will turn on next.

Btw, they can show more of that pig-tailed Monica.

This is what I was wondering too. Why not just keep Woo for challenges and vote off Jeff and Abi? Although Woo could get dangerous if he has ties on other tribes during a merge. But he's always in the fog so he might not be as much of a threat as they think.

And more of the other tribes in general. I feel like they could have gone with 2 hour shows this season so we could see whats going on with the other tribes. I liked Varner and am warming so Savage (I recall him being a #### on his original season), but there have to be some aspects of the other we are missing with so much focus on the yellow tribe.

I like that Jeremy isn't telling his alliance he has the idol. Starting to pull for him.

I missed when they chose the "runner" for the challenge. How was Joe not selected for that? That guy is a challenge beast, maybe the best the show has ever had. Ozzie was great in water challenges but not at puzzles and things like that.

I was wondering that too. I seem to think that Joe may have just 'stepped back' so as to not look like "a challenge beast" as you say. I don't know - I was pretty surprised by it though.

This is the main problem with having three tribes, it is really difficult to balance the air time.

How in the world anyone could decide to work with Abi is beyond me.
They're not deciding to work with her. They're deciding not to be the next target of her crazy. Anyone who can balance the act the whole way will take her to the final to sit next to.
They could have forced the Varner vote last time. Or they could have voted off Abi last time. They chose to vote with her and work with her.

At this point, there have been 4 votes and 4 people from Woo and Abi's original tribe are gone. They're the minority in the other two tribes as well. Even if they shake tribes up again they're all behind the eight ball without some luck.

Makes me wonder why they care to tolerate Abi then. Everyone acts like Abi is a swing vote. They don't need her, but they need to keep Woo close now.

Exactly.

I think everyone sees Abi as their Philip "the specialist" sheppard. Way too early for that to actually work though, particularly if they keep losing.

It's better for Tasha and lawyer guy (forgot his name) to get rid of Jeff (who Abi likes) than Woo (who Abi distrusts). This way if they lose again they don't have to worry about Jeff convincing Abi to vote with him for a 2-2 tie. Plus, Woo might help them win a physical challenge.

Guys, no one has been voted off Survivor "because they're annoying" or "because they're difficult to work with" for 10 years. Just like no one gets to stay "because he makes fire" or "because he catches fish" anymore. That's way old school, season 1 and 2 thinking. These are survivor pros here. They know Abi's the goat and are fine with it. There's no reason to vote her out yet.

The only reason to take down Abi is if you think you can't manipulate her, and if you think you can't manipulate her, then you think you're not good enough to win. No one thinks that way.
Three annoying people in a row voted off though, that's pretty sweet. Cass next would be amazing but I have a feeling she goes far. She's getting a pretty sympathetic edit thus far.

Agreed. But Terry Deitz is one of the original challenge beasts. That guy won a ton of challenges his season, IIRC. So it was probably a combination of Joe being ok with laying low and Deitz wanting to prove that he's still got it.

I wonder if it would have been different, though, if it were an immunity challenge rather than just for reward.

Joe was smart to defer to Terry.

There are some really strong players in this game, at least a half dozen folks I'm rooting for and it will be interesting to see who I end up wanting to advance when they are a single tribe and people I like face each other.

I'm sorry Jeff Varner got eliminated as he said he came on the show to help with his mother's medical bills while she battles a serious illness, and he was a callback to what is still my very favorite season after all these years.

However, in-show, he played too hard too early and the tribe switch didn't help him as his (presumed) pre-show alliances did not seem to help him.

Also, the Probstian, manly man, refer to people by their last names thing needs to stop. I understand it with the two Kell(e)ys as their last names both start with "W" and end with "-worth." But the whole "Dietz, Varner, Savage" crap is awful. No need to prove anyone's chest-puffing manhood by using last names only. So I'm not sorry to see "Varner" depart for that reason.

Well Joe did almost single handed carry them in the immunity challenge.

If you are the players you have to assume there will be more hero challenges to come. Saving Joe was smart.

I was just thinking about it and the hero challenge seems designed to artificially clear the way for the strong challenge guys to make the merge. I bet we see a female hero challenge next.

Speaking of...

Could he see or were they muting Kass' directions to him to make him look like a superhero? Because it was pretty ridiculous seeing him run with a big piece, avoiding obstacles and placing the piece down at just the right time and place without hearing anyone telling him what to do.

As a kid my siblings and I played blind hide and go seek. Both inside and out. The seeker had to use a blindfold.

We got really good at knowing roughly where we were. Kass probably just needed to aim Joe in a general direction. I know that I'd rather be on my own the way Joe was rather than paired up with someone who was useless when blind.

Problem with Abi is she's too easily manipulated. All someone on the other side needs is 5 minutes and your whole plan can be destroyed. You can't rely on her. So if you're only going in with a 1 vote margin, its still basically a coin flip.

The Previously.TV recap contains this laugh-out-loud gem:

Eventually, Joe stops waiting to be told where to go and just starts running out onto the course, possibly using sonar to detect and retrieve the puzzle pieces on his own.

It was pretty ridiculous that he was running with pieces, not hitting anything and dropping precisely where he needed to..

He's that good.

Not necessarily sonar but I was thinking he must have special dog/bat hearing that allows him to hear Kass' screeches when no one else on the tribe can

That's it.. he's probably Batman

As far as Abi.. you can't hope to drag her to the end like Phil because she's way too flaky. One minute she's your friend, the next she hates your guts for some perceived slight. Everyone knows this, and walks on eggshells accordingly. Tasha just wanted Varner out that much more.. Abi Maria's days have got to be numbered.

Yeah if they lose again Abi is gone. Tasha played in the same season as Woo she knows his word is good.

I didn't find Varner annoying. I was hoping he would last a long time.

People get voted off because they're annoying all the time. I can think of about 30 without even trying. It's a little early for a goat, and that's why I expect Abi to be toast soon. If she makes the merge, it could be a different story, but somehow I don't think she'll go all the way to the end.

You can't control crazy. As others have said, depending on working with Abi from now until the end of the game is way too long. She will either turn on you or one of your alliance, or she will give away alliance secrets/information. She has a big mouth that she can't keep in check. She is basically a spoiled 5-year-old girl in this game.

If you have an opportunity to use her vote for a week or two, great, but depending on her as one of your core group is a mistake for any thinking player in the game.

And while I am sure he is helped by the edit, Joe does appear to be great at everything. I think he did defer to Terry to keep as low a profile as he can. He knows that when the merge to one tribe comes he has a potential target on him any week he does not win immunity. I don't think there is really a strategy for him to protect himself with how good he is in challenges, but we will see what he comes up with.

If I were him I'd make love to all of the women, make them my concubines. Together we would vote against all those who stood in my path to victory.

That was a fun episode.

I'll go ahead and say it. As much as I loathe Kass, she's doing the right thing by really changing her game. Ugh, I feel dirty just writing that out. :X

Glad (like others) that Jeremy is keeping the idol to himself. He seems like a person that will be able to continue to avoid the temptation to tell someone too.

We didn't talk about it last week, but I really hated the split to 3 tribes. WTF was the point??? It was really unfair to the new tribe to start over. I just don't get it.

It was funny to see the two old men whoop up on Jeremy, but I have to wonder if he held back on purpose. He was lolly gagging around the catapult like he didn't even care. Or was he really that exhausted that he couldn't hustle?

He's probably really good at that to.
