So the Wilder-Povetkin bout is now off.  Shame - Wilder would have had a chance to really prove himself with a win in Moscow.  Could have possibly leveraged a fight with the Fury-Klitchko II winner.  Not so likely now.
And $4M+ down the drain. Any chance he still sees some of that money?

Hot take: I would take Joshua against any heavyweight in the world right now.
I'm getting there.  Joshua-Wilder today, I favor Wilder.  Joshua-Ortiz I consider a pick 'em.  A year from now, I'll favor Joshua against either or against anyone else.  (The distinction is a moot point as those fights will not be made within the next year).

He will be the next big thing.

Yeah, that's a good point. Joshua's only had three real-ish fights. Wilder/Joshua would probably be pretty close.

Yes, I agree.   If he is looking for millions without much chances he can do it by fighting others.  Julio Cesaer Chavez he is not.   Just a shame he won't fight GGG.  Lost some respect for the guy right now.
It's not really Canelo, it's Oscar.

It's definitely Oscar.

However...the spin is so that Canelo can negotiate fair terms without a deadline imposing on him...thus giving GGG an unfair advantage at the table.

I give them untill next May or we are looking at a major screwup.

That's horrible...I couldn't even make it through the full 2 minutes.

It'll sell tickets but it's a mockery.

There's no chance this will get anything below 10 to 1 odds.
Paddy Power has odds up for this and all manner of hypothetical matchups. Mayweather is -1400.

It is De La Hoya at work here, at the same time Canelo can force his hand and make this happen if he wants to. Canelo is, at least theoretically, in charge of his own career. Canelo also spouted that bull#### about GGG having not fought anyone.

I have a sinking feeling that Canelo's going to lure Pac out of retirement, and GGG will settle for Saunders. At least it'll be a nice payday and he'll unify.

Ugh...Pac/Canelo...that's awful.

But we're going to hear all manner of things as they "negotiate" this thing for months.

If true, there's simply no way he can turn that down.

I love that Briggs and Haye both beat complete jabronis to "set up" a fight between them later in the year. :lmao:

Somewhat excited for Lara tonight. He might be the second-most intriguing realistic opponent for GGG right now, and apparently he wants it.

Lara is a problem for any fighter, even in a loss he will make GGG look bad.

I always admired canelo for taking him on.

On that front, i wonder how much damage the ggg incident is going to do to canelo's numbers if the ggg fight isnt made. Is anyone going to shell out 60 bucks to see him whack david lemieux around?

Watched Lara(Cuban) fight on Saturday night.  He's a lefty & a defensive fighter without much punch IMO.  Not very fun to watch at all.

I was at someone's house watching the Showtime card and left after the Trout fight.  Was told later I was the smart one.  The Charlo fights were good, though I felt bad for Trout.  I knew the Lara fight would not measure up in terms of entertainment value and considered the outcome a foregone conclusion.

He is brutal to watch, but he is defensive wizard. He makes everyone look bad. The type of fighter where even when you win, you lose.

Lara's best punch is his left.  Problem is he pushes it.  Powder puff puncher & defensive fighter first.  Not my kind of fighter but he has my respect.  Anyone who climbs into the ring has some guts.

That nonsense didn't gain any traction earlier when they were trying...it really just needs to stop.

No one...not one single fan gives one hot damn about seeing Mayweather punk this chump out.
I think the novelty of this thing would get 2mm PPV buys. There would be legions of MMA-only fans buying this thing up hoping their guy knocks Mayweather on his ###, who would be sorely disappointed. A guy like McGregor would be maybe double the money for half the risk than another top 147 guy, none of whom have the name recognition that McGregor has, except Pac, and nobody wants to see that again.

ETA: I'm dumb, thought you were referring to McGregor. Yeah, I don't think Broner's worth May coming out of retirement for.

So I've recently been getting into boxing.

Any fights I need to watch on YouTube?
For just great historical fights, lots of great ones listed. You can't go wrong with any of them. If you are looking for recent fights with current fighters you can watch as their careers progress, I'd suggest:

Crawford vs Gamboa

Figueroa vs Arakawa

Bradley vs Provodnikov

I honestly don't even know where to start with this subject...there's so many great fights but I'll throw out a few of my favorites:

Ali/Norton - Watch all of them.

Morales/Barrera - another trilogy worth your time

Bowe/Holyfield - another solid trilogy with one of the greatest rounds ever.

Ali/Frazier - Obviously one of the greatest

After watching Frazier & Norton..watch Foreman take them on.  This will fully demonstrate the old adage of "styles make fights".  You can see how a smothering brawler matches up with the boxer (Frazier/Ali) and then see how the puncher matches up with the brawler (Foreman/Frazier).

Then...and only then...watch Ali/Foreman.  This will show you the boxer vs ferocious puncher.  Although...someone was allowed to get away with everything under the sun in this match.

Leonard/Hagler - great fight and usually starts a debate over the final scoring.

Ward/Gatti - just an unreal show of hardheaded stubbornness by both fighters.

Duran/Leonard - hands of stone versus quick and smooth sugar ray.

Chavez/Taylor - watch this one just so you can pick a side in this argument.

Hagler/Hearns - 3 rounds of two guys strictly trying to kill the other man.

Pryor/Arguello - one of the best ever.

Leonard/Hearns - still can't believe this one.

I watched Chavez/Ramirez last night. Tyson drops by in the 5th to do a little commentary and be interviewed. Just awesome stuff.

You can also watch famous guys in their first few fights, those are always kind of entertaining. I think Canelo's first fight is on YouTube somewhere, from when he was 15-16?

I realize most people have seen it, but Tyson/Douglas is interesting because -- and I didn't realize it when I was a kid watching it live -- but the Japanese crowd is almost completely silent. It's pretty surreal.

The 30 for 30 No Mas was one of the reasons I got into boxing. I admit to liking MMA more but I find that I actually like any fight where a person is throwing precise, quick punches.

Any Tyson fight is fun to watch for anyone new...queue any of them up...then watch the end of a reign with that Buster Douglas debacle.  Then curse the heavens for Cus dying and Don King for ever being born.

I haven't seen it yet.

I still carry a lot of emotion into those fights.  I was young and a huge Hearns and Duran fan.

Sugar Ray pisses me off to no end...but the guy was great.

I just have to be in the right frame of mind to watch that 30 for 30 or those fights again.

Duran-Leonard I is a must-see.  The others in the trilogy not so much.  Duran vs Hearns is something to check out too.

An overlooked trilogy was Israel Vasquez vs Rafael Marquez (brother of Juan Manuel Marquez, who KOed Pacquaio).  There were four fights but you can skip the last one.  Israel Vasquez vs Jhonny Gonzales is a great fight too.

Some overlooked fights include Arturo Gatti vs WIlson Rodriguez and Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper.  Nigel Benn vs Iran Barkley and the Hearns fights vs Barkley are worth a look too.

The most vicious fight I can think of was Foreman-Lyle. Those were two huge men throwing to kill. No defense, no sweet science, just kill shots. Or as Cosell described it, "an incredible fight  ,utterly without boxing skill."

Mayweather/McGregor's apparently going to happen on Sept 16, which is a big boxing weekend given that it's Mexican Independence Day. It'll be interesting to see who Canelo  picks next, and when.

Also, GGG's manager has said they have not heard anything from Golden Boy since the Khan fight. So yeah.

They're going to milk this to death.
