Please let the Good Colby take the mound tonight
He did. But the bad Nefi showed. Colby left with neck stiffness. Heard it's an injury from turning to look at all the home runs he's given up. :)

Does anyone want to take hold of this division?

One thing that kinda scares me is that LAAAAA has 9 more road games already than home games. Little things like that always seem to come into play with a tight race.

Strange trade rumors- Giants are interested in Torrealba (for middle reliever) and the Rangers are interested in K-Rod and Beltran.

Eta: heard Nolan on Galloway today. He basically said they have no interest in K Rod after seeing him pitch yesterday and Beltran is too injury prone. That's good news.

When is the Silver Boot parade?

I'm just glad we could get this one for Beltre and Yorvit. A lot of guys have great careers and never win the Silver Boot. And it leaves a bad taste in their mouth, tarnishes their legacy. These guys will never have to face those questions again.

from Rotoworld

"Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers are considering calling up Chris Davis from Triple-A Round Rock to play left field, which would allow Josh Hamilton to see more regular playing time in center field.

Davis is batting .374 with 19 homers over 33 games with Triple-A Round Rock this season, including a .380 batting average and 10 homers in the month of June. "Every time you look at the box score, it seems like he's hit two home runs," said Rangers general manager Jon Daniels. "He's really gone off down there. [bringing him back] is something we've talked about a little bit. He can play any of the four corner positions [left, right, first base or third base]. It's the reason we asked him to play some outfield. With his athleticism, we thought he could do it. He has shown he can." The Rangers have been reluctant to use Hamilton in center field due to the risk of injury, but the addition of Davis could help bolster their lineup."

If Davis could ever hit from day one back up it would be a great boost for him and the club.....we'll see

I love the Silver Boot, if for no other reason than to play the Astros 6 times per year, who should be horrible for a minimum of the next 5 years

I'd rather they traded him while his stock is somewhat high than bring him up here again, hit .200 with eleventy billion strikeouts, and be stuck in the same AAAA situation. Some guys just need a fresh start with a new team.

CD has been decent this year in his limited time up. Batting 269. Most of his other stats at the plate are pretty solid too. If he can extrapolate those stats over the remaining season for us he will be very good. He would never have been sent down this year based on his performance... He was sent down because of the Young/Moreland/Napoli bottleneck at 1B. Now that he's getting time in the outfield you might see him used like Moreland. Somedays corner infield others corner outfield. If the bat comes alive simedays DH.

In 52 ABs. Hopefully he comes up here and knocks the cover off the baseball, but I didn't see anything from him that doesn't make me think he's got the same approach at the plate.

 He has looked pretty relaxed to me up there. After his first couple ab's he stopped pressing so hard. Needs to bring down the strikeout rate a bit 1 of 3 ab's is too many, but I've like what I've seen so far. Hopefully he does well. He has a ton of talent.

Just rewatched the fall. A little boy was sitting right next to him. So sad. Looks like he just lost his balance, he didn't look like he was over zealous trying to catch it.

Just read about this :(
He fell and landed not far from the Athletics' bullpen. "When they had him on a stretcher and they were carrying him out, he was saying stuff like 'Please check on my son, he's left up there by himself.'" Athletics reliever Brad Ziegler said. "The people that carried him out reassured him that, 'We'll get your son, we'll make sure he's OK.' We just kind of assumed that he's talking, he's conscious, he'll be OK. To find out he's not is just ... tough."

I feel for the guy and his family, I really do.

But on a selfish note, I really hope this does not #### up Josh Hamilton in some weird way.

To be honest, it'd be hard for it not to mess with him.
This is all the local sports radio is talking about right now, a little bit about the death of the man, and a ton on how it will affect Hamilton. The fact that he has to stand out there, the fact that the Rangers dugout looks right out at that seat, the idea that people are going to try and make that seat some kind of memorial, etc.It will affect him in some way, I know it would me, to what degree is still to be seen.

I blinked and the Angels made a run. Is this cause for concern?
I think yes.Looking at our schedule the 1 month stretch starting Aug 15th is going to determine the division. During that time we play 7 against the Angels, 7 against Boston, 6 against the Rays, 3 against each the white sox and A's. During the same stretch the LAA play 7 against us, 6 against SEA, 3 each against NYY, MIN and BAL and 2 against the white sox.

This is a pretty good link to determine what we have to look forward to. Obviously if we can win our series HTH against LAA we will be sitting nicely, but this stretch in August is something to look for.

The most amazing stat for this team going into the All-Star break:

CJ Wilson - 19

Colby Lewis - 18

Derek Holland - 18

Alexi Ogando - 17

Matt Harrison - 17

Dave Bush - 3

Did you really think one of Hunter/Holland/Harrison was not going to bomb early? The Ogando thing was a stunner, but any contender must have a pitcher come out of nowhere to be competitive.

Uh, that's what he's pointing out, that nobody has bombed. We've had the same starting five in our rotation since day 1, pretty remarkable.

:goodposting: The fact that you if you take out Colby knocking his wife up, and Alexi getting a blister, having the same 5 starters for the whole season so far is remarkable, especially considering the history of this team.Just as recently as 2008, you had 15 different starters for this thing.

Sucks that CJ was loser of that game. Also sucks that the NL has home advantage again, but the AL rep will have no room to whine.

BOS- Lester & Beckett scratched

NYY- Rivera, CC, Jeter scratch

TBB- Price Scratch

DET- Verlander Scratch

TEX- Wilson gave up 3R HR

I liked the NL's gameplan better. 2IP by Halladay, 1.2 by Lee. Weaver should have gone 2 innings. Getting basically 4 innings from those 2 were huge for the NL especially with Verlander, CC, Beckett all unavailable for the AL.

Why in the world did Dave Anderson not put up the stop sign when Bautista was rounding 3rd? Heck a little league 3rd base coach would have done that.... He just stood there and watched the play unfold. Who knows if Ortiz would have got a hit, but still bad base coaching imo.

Not looking forward to the 9.05PM first pitch for the next week.... Let's hope the Rangers can pick up where we left off before the break.

West coast swings usually have me checking out. I just can't hang anymore. It seems like forever ago since they went out that way.

For being such a metrics guy I never understood why JD locked him up for so much cash. The flukey-ness of his performance was laid bare in even very rudimentary analysis. I can't remember how long this forum was here, but we for sure slammed this deal at the time. I'd like to go back and re-read any links people had too if there were any.

Also, how much fun is it to make 9 Million to pitch every 5th day in AAA. There should be a AAA bomb hall of fame.

It doesn't look like he's going to AAA. Rumor has it he refused assignment. So the Rangers can either release him and pay him or make room for him. Looks like they are going to make room for him. Next blowout I hope Wash throws him out there and amkes him throw 300 pitches until his arm falls off. You would think if he was serious about being a big leaguer he would go to AAA and work on improving. Mark Lowe had the right attitude and it paid off. This is very dissapointing if true.

maybe but rightly or wrongly they still feel Feldman has value and he can certainly be a decent long man in the pen

Sure, but that is going against the teams wishes here. The team wants him in AAA. The Rangers are winning right now and Feldman thinks he is bigger than the team. I hope he does great, it just makes me mad that he rejected assignement to AAA and he has pitched poorly as of late. He might start getting the cold shoulder in the club house. Winning the west is the only thing that matters right now and Feldman doesn't care about the team by making this choice.

Actually he pitched pretty well in his latest rehab starts

6 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits in 5 innings in AAA isn't "pretty well.". We'll see. http://www.newbergreport.com/article.asp?articleid=2321

What happened to the deal where if he didn't accept the AAA they could release his contract and pay him nothing? I thought that was an option here? So lost.

Not sure which one outing Newberg is referencing but through 7/10, Feldman had a 3.18 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in eight rehab starts between AA and AAA.And of course good or bad, that really doesn't matter - it is what he will do for the Rangers that will count. But he has done it before and does improve their bullpen as it is constituted now. Also gives them a chance to send O'Day down and let him work out his problems with more work in less important situations.
