***Official Texas Rangers 2011 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Props to Jon Daniels to again have the poker chips it takes to make the move, and then the guts to make the move. You get what are probably the top two targets on Texas' radar and you don't use Perez or Profar to get either one.

Fantastic trades! Took our biggest weakness and made it a strength. Huge! And didn't deal any of the top shelf prospects.

Best GM in the game. There, I said it.Most GMs would not have: a) identified Adams as the better option; b) developed their system to make the deal possible.

Looking at the depth of the bullpen now games are shortened to 5-6 innings.

Long man- Feldman

6th- Lowe, Oliver, Yoshi.... I expect Rhodes to hit waivers as soon as Gentry comes back.

7th- Uehara

8th- Adams

9th- Feliz

You can also bump an inning if you are looking to avoid pitching someone 3-days in a row...

It will be nice to have the confidence to pull the starter in a 1-2 run game after 6 and save some innings for a potential post season run... Especially with Ogando.

You are Ron Washington

You have 4 options for Feliz. Pick one.

1) Status Quo. He'll work out of this. Plenty of time

2) Quit pitching the guy on B2B nights. Put him on a more regular schedule, like a setup man, but still the closer. Let a few guys get looks at saves. It is clear he doesn't have it on consecutive nights.

3) Let him go throw in AAA and try to get a second pitch. His offspeed is regressing and his fastball location is horrid on B2B. A quick couple weeks in AAA will give him a shot to get that back

4) Move the guy to a setup type role every other day no matter the circumstances. Still sees MLB level batters while working on control in less pressure.

Don't pitch him 3 nights in a row. Wash has options. He can go

9th- Feliz, Adams, Uehara

8th- Adams, Uehara, Lowe, Yoshi

7th-Uehara, Lowe, Yoshi, Oliver

6th- Lowe, Yoshi, Oliver, Feldman

Mix and match those combos when needed and no reason Feliz should have to pitch back-to-back-to-back.

We can blame Holland for sucking Friday night, Elvis for a careless error that contributed to an extended inning that gave Holland an early hook that destroyed the bullpen for the series.

I am also guessing that Feldman's blister caused an inning or two from somebody that did not need to be pitched.Still, the whole point of having 3.5 closers (lowe) was to avoid an obvious overuse situation for any of them. I think Washgington gets to grieg of his overall management because he not exactly a great public speaker, but a good portion this lays at his feet.

GREAT work by the bullpen guys tonight which allowed Feliz to pitch the 9th hoping to shut them down and get a walkoff and Hamilton delivered

I like the way Holland battle back last night. He could have gone in the tank after 3, but he stuck it out for 6 and kept them in the game.

So going in LAA with a 4 gamee lead and 4 games to play. At worst tied, at best in massive control of the division, at most probable leave about where they started.

That's right! Took care of what needed to be taken care of with CLE, SEA and OAK. Now starts a brutal stretch with 7 vs LAA, 6 vs BOS, 6 vs TB and 3 vs CHI. A split vs LAA would be huge, anything else will be gravy. I really like the pitching matchups this week too.

The next four in LAAAAAA will have a playoff feel to them. Really have a chance to bury the Angels with a sweep (or let them right back into the race).

I like how the pitching matchup lay out. I think it helps Texas.

Ogando - Richards

Holland - Chatwood

Wilson - Santana

Lewis - Weaver

Once Texas gets to Weaver, they could have serious momentum. Look for CJ to have his best start of the season.

You couldn't ask for a better start to the series for Texas. A solid win, strong start for Ogando, and a depleted bullpen for LAAAAAAA.

I fine any batter who swings at a first pitch tonight. Make Chatwood work and get him out of the game early.

Taking my brothers to tonight's game. Not really sure which team to root for but as long as it's a good game I'll be happy. Pretty sure your team is going to win the division and be a significant threat in the postseason.

Chatwood will get the awesome line below his box score "Faced five batters in the third inning".Job well done so far.

Really nice outing by the Dutch Oven. Texas fully into the heads and bullpen of LAAAAA. I know that Santana and Weaver don't need much help, but you have to love the idea that it's really weak back there if they do stumble.

Even Mikey Young making plays at third tonight, it was just that kind of game.

They did this well tonight. In the early part of the game, I saw Holland letting the 1st guys of the inning on and thought this was a bad Holland outing waiting to happen, but he got through that patch until the last out of the game. So the worst fot the Rangers is where they started the series, but now I want them to get greedy and put real distance between them and Angels.

Agreed. I'm real greedy now. I want the sweep.

You would think a do or die series wouldn't start with two rookie pitchers.

Take one of two here and I can't think this pennant is anything but done.

LAAA is really taking it on the chin, and while I'm not sure if they could have changed their rotation looking ahead, it is a tough break.Newberg has a great report today on how the Angels are facing tough decisions coming up on how to keep their team together. Their trio of pitchers are either free agents or really expensive options coming up this year or next. Abreu is locked in for 9 million next season, Hunter for 12 million and for Wells: 21 million. 21 million. 21 million.   Trout and Bourjos are going to be awesome, but what are they going to have around them?

six or eight, one is really good the other is great

So yeah, the Rangers are just better. The Angels have a few really good starting pitchers, but beyond that? Meh.

Still being greedy. Want the eight. For me there is something very different about a 6 game lead and an 8 game lead. With 6 games, LAAAAA is saying "OK, we have 6 more head to head. We take care of business, we can be right there. Make that last 3 games series at home mean something." With an 8 game lead, you are just a good weekend away from pushing it into double digits, which has to be the last nail in the coffin. Still a lot of baseball to play, and I worry about the BOS/LAAAA/TB/BOS/TB stretch ahead, but you have to be looking at 12 more with OAK/SEA as a real chance to just take care of business and bury the division.

I have never, ever, EVER, been so confident in a Rangers starting rotation as I am this year. One through five, I feel like they should win every night going out. True, the top of the Angels staff is better, but I wouldn't trade complete rotations with them right now. The overall consistency of the group is just shocking.Wins: 12,11,11,10,12Quality Starts: 16,14,15,16,15WHIP: 1.21,1.40,1.19,1.27,1.13You don't even have to put names next to them. You are going to get a workman like effort every night.
