***Official Texas Rangers 2012 Thread*** (2 Viewers)

I am starting to wonder when josh had his monster month and didn't get paid it sort of took the life out of things. It is either that or hangover from two long playoff runs.I'm not scared of LAA long term this year. They have only 3 real hitters that can hurt you. They got damn lucky to hit gold in their minors or they'd be 10-12 back.
3 hitters and 3 starting pitchers are sometimes all it takes.I'm not counting them out. Not with the way the Rangers have looked lately. Josh is completely lost up there. :(

:goodposting: Trout is doing stupid good things and seems to really be relaxing that team as a whole. The way Josh is looking and the way the pitching staff is taking longer and longer to get healthy, I will not count anyone out. Hell, even Oakland is putting on some pressure.

No, I definitely see Oakland as the bigger threat than LA right now.

Do you mind me asking why?Think of it in a playoff series. If pitchers and position players are all healthy, how do you not fear the Angels at least somewhat? I think they match up well against Texas. Pitching, hitting, base running, defense...the Angels are solid.

I don't fear LA because there are giant holes in that lineup. You can really rest through the 7-8-9 guys. Texas has issues too in some dead lineup spots, but there are options to resolve them LA doesn't have. Oak has the wrong mix for Texas of soft tossing lefties and nibbler righties. Just compare the way NYY handled both squads this month. I watched parts of all of those games and it looks night/day to me in many regards. NYY probably would have gotten the sweep if the Yankees didn't have their head up their asses on the basepaths that day.

Wow. Things move fast around here. Colby out for season. Got to hope we can make a deal for either Garza or Shields now. Preferably Shields. Yikes. This is getting ugly.

i think you are way off base. Compare the Angels lineup to the Athletics lineup.Oakland goes sub-500 from here on out.

Well ####.Was up for a contract next year too. Sucks to be that guy. Was looking at at least 3/25 or so.

Sucks to lose Colby. Guy has been a horse. :sadbanana:

It's not the most likely scenario, but I have a feeling we're going to be welcoming Cliff Lee back into the fold.

I would love that, but I think Philly would have to eat about $15 million to make that happen. I'm scared to think what Cliff would cost in prospects? Olt, Perez, Garcia, Feliz? Is that too much, not enough? If we end up trading for a pitcher I think Greinke is the most likely followed by Garza, followed by something crazy like Lee or Shields or someone we aren't even thinking about...The Tigers made a real nice trade yesterday, not sure when they get Voctor Martinez back, but that will feel like a trade deadline move when/if it happens. I'm most worried about Detroit and the Yankees. Although if the Ranger bats come to life in the last quarter of the season I think they will be fine.ETA: I feel for Colby. The guy was about to get paid. Only made ~$8mm in career earnings... I really hope he gets healthy and has a chance to get that contract from someone.

He is arbitration eligible so I think that means that if he can be cleared for opening day he'd be due at least 1/10 to 1/15 even. Don't quote me on how that all works as it's pretty far over my head (as are most things of that nature)

I worked the AZL Rangers game against the Padres on Monday night which was in Peoria Stadium (spring training home of the Padres and Mariners if that helps recall it). Joey Gallo was up with two runners on and hit a home run to RF that cleared the berm behind the right field fences by a good margin. It was his 12th of the season which is about a month old.

Here's a little graphic of what you're talking about. http://www.bbtia.com/the-clubhouse/2012/7/24/joey-gallo-murdered-a-baseball-last-night.html

As if getting only 1 run out having guys in scoring position for 4/5 innings in a row, the 3 outs all on 1st pitches weak swings was poor baseball execution.

Edit: Hoping Beltre is alright. Best offensive player on the team at the moment. Can't afford to any time off.

Joey Matches tweet from this morning.

Per @BNightengale, the Rangers are "actively pursuing" MIA's Josh Johnson, and informed MIA that they would be willing to trade Mike Olt

I for one am shocked that MIA is already in firesale mode. Shocked I tell you.

I am sort of resigned about this season. Several vets aren't putting it together this year. I think you just ride this season out and know you have 3-4 mega stud prospects lined up in the pipe.

Still a chance to put together something special. Nothing else in the AL looks as strong as what was there last year.

Too many guys to sign to mortgage the farm for this year.

Yikes. I get that Johnson has the makeup of being a big time pitcher but he is a serious gamble. An injury riddled gamble. Greinke would be so much better.

We already have a pitcher with a 1.35 WHIP. Thing is his BAA is .225 not .275.

This is good enough to deal Olt for?

I agree. I prefer greinke too. I think we would actually have a shot at resigning him too. JJ scares me, but I trust JD at this point.

Josh looks lost up there. Home "fans" booing him.
I just rewatched his final at bat to see what you're talking about and didn't notice fans booing. Maybe a few random jeers, but he was definitely not boo'd by fand on the ranger telecast... Not that ranger fans are above that.... Colby and CJ have both been boo'd while wearing the ranger uniform the last 2 years... Just didn't hear fans giving it to Hamilton tonight.

You beat the Red Sox 5-3 and the entire hour of Diamond Talk felt like they lost 10-0. My how times have changed.

AZL Rangers down 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th - Joey Gallo pinch hit home run tied the game and the Rangers won in the bottom of the 10th

And now he has been booed. Some dumb fans.

Joey Gallo with homer number 14 last night.

Happy 5th anniversary to the Teixeira trade today.

Not to many positives about last night's game, other than Josh maybe finding his way again and Cruz with a ridiculous blast that still has not come down.

The Pujols comparisons are pretty funny. I like the 'It will take Josh going 0-211 to equal Pujols slugging %' What a disaster.
Man, how times have changed. :sadbanana:As pointed out by Evan Grant this morning, Pujols has nearly caught Josh in batting average. 284 to 287

So the Rangers and Red Sox were discussing a mega deal for Ellsbury, Beckett and Shoppach. Crazy

I also heard from someone yesterday (good source) that Elvis was almost dealt. I think I'm going to shed some grown man tears the day Elvis doesn't put on a Ranger uniform. I really hope he doesn't get traded in the off season.

Bout to see our lead shrink to 3... Maybe 1.... Feels like we are 10 games back...
Honestly the rangers have been playing like a team that should be 10 games back for quite awhile now. There was a lead to play with and the Rangers has managed to jerk it away. Even with the injuries (not minor) and such the biggest difference is that Hamilton thought it was a good idea to go from historic MVP performance to basically being a pitcher batting in the middle of the line-up, while Trout took over the historic MVP stuff. The fact As are scrappy enough to hang around is more an annoyance than a threat.

Left after 8. Told my wife I hope we miss a ranger comeback. Wow!

Olt is coming to Arlington. Snyder down. Let the games begin.
