Left after 8. Told my wife I hope we miss a ranger comeback. Wow!Olt is coming to Arlington. Snyder down. Let the games begin.
Who does he replace in the lineup? Please tell me it's Young.
One can only hope. If he at least cuts into Youngs time it will be a win.
I think you will see Olt give Beltre some days off, either completely or at least have Beltre DH. He can also play some first, and I wouldn't be surprised if he sees some time in the OF. I'm really excited about this, but going to temper my expectations some.

How do you sign a :loco: like this to a long term contract?

Texas Rangers center field Josh Hamilton had an awful July batting just .145 and insists there is nothing wrong with him physically. When the time comes, Hamilton said he will share what is going on with him.“There’s so much more involved. I don’t know,” he told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m cool, man. I’m really good. The frustrating part is this [dealing with the media] and not being able to share everything with you guys. When the time is right, I’ll be honest with you, you’ll be right in the loop.”“I’ve been shown a lot of things over the past week,” he said. ”There’s disobedience and there’s obedience to God. I’ve been being disobedient. It may be a small thing to you, but it’s a big thing to him. There’s consequences. It’s like a father and a kid. There are disciplines. You guys can chew on that and think about it.”Despite the slump, Hamilton is batting .283 and is among the major league leaders in home runs (29) and RBI (84). Rangers manager Ron Washington added to the intrigue confirming Hamilton is not hurt and said the slugger will make a statement when the time is right.“The issue is something that I think Josh would definitely have to be the one to expose, ” Washington told ESPN Radio. It’s certainly not physical. It has nothing to do with injuries. Josh is the one that made the statement and got all the inquiries going, and I think Josh is the one that has to put a rest to the inquiries, not Ron Washington. I can just tell you one thing: It is not because he’s hurt.”
"I've been being disobedient"? WTF? This dude's demons have demons.

It's not at all unusual for persons with addictions to switch from their vice of choice to an addiction of God. As in go way past how most people view and worship God. I'm not knocking it but think that might be what we've got here.

I think you are right. Not only is it not unusual, it is very common.

I don't think he gets a long term deal. I think he gets 3 and a team/earned 4th year option from Texas. Maybe 3/60. That may or may not get it done. Will be interesting to see if other teams decide to take on the risk. Maybe the Brewers?

I thought this was obvious. It happened to a few AA guys I know as well. They finally toned it down a bit and got hooked on coffee or something else. I know one guy that got turned on to these little fake cigarette things. Goofy as hell. Some people's minds are just broken. It happens.

That is obvious if they go to AA Meetings. The faith in God gives them hope for the future. AA probably views is as a much better addiction than alcohol or drugs.Could his wife have something to do with it as well?

I'm hoping he plays 1st almost exclusively against LH pitching with Moreland against RH pitching. Let him DH some against RH pitching (can't be any worse than Michael Young) Give Beltre some days off at 3B (but not too many days off)where Beltre can DH. Vs LHP1B- Olt3B- BeltreDH YoungVs RHP1B- Moreland3B- Beltre or Olt(w/Beltre DH)DH- Olt/Beltre/MurphyBench- YoungI'd also like to see Gentry get 2 weeks of starts in center regardless of RH LH pitching.

For the first time since Darvish -CJ I'm really excited for a game. Dempster-CJ and Olt... And the Angels. It feels good to be excited again. Hopefully this feeling can last. If not I might need to find a church and get some religion on.

On a side note, Darvish wasn't as bad as his box score last night. He can't thow a strike sometime which is just baffling. Walks 8&9 and then gets Trout to hit a little grounder to him and then completely blows the throw. How that was scored a FC and not an E I don't understand. Maybe someone with better understanding can explain. And then he got Hunter to ground into what would have been a close double play and Ian airmailed the throw. What ended up being a 6 run inning should have been 0 or at most 1 run. He got charged with all 6 runs as earned in that inning. I'm not panicking on Yu at all. I think he's going to be fine. I just wish he would bring down his walks.

Good point. As a Tiger fan, if the umps wouldn't have stopped the game for a rain delay conveniently with Detroit down 4-1, bases loaded, and 2 outs, a grand slam would have put the Tigers ahead...possibly for good. I've got Darvish on my fantasy team and have watched him quite a bit....last night he threw 59 strikes out of 108 pitches, 6 walks in 5 innings pitched. LA could have just as easily scored double digits as they could have scored 1 or 2 runs.

He won't normally be in the lineup - brought up to be a RH bat off the bench

It starts with being a fielders choice because Darvish did not try and throw out the batter but tried to get another runner out (not the right one he should have thrown to third). The OS could have added an error IF he felt the runner at second would have been out OR if any other runner got an extra base from the play but he ruled, correctly I think, that the throw to second was late anyway (even if thrown to Andrus which it should have been and not Kinsler who was behind the play), thus just a FC

Thanks for the explanation. I'd like to see a replay of that play. They obviously didn't show it at the game. I watched a replay of the Kins air mail throw. Looked like he would have got the double play to end the inning had the throw been on target.

Well his throw was somewhat affected by the direction of his body although normally he would get off a better throw. But that is not an error because they got the lead runner (you can never assume a double play which is why there are not errors on the second play Unless it is so bad it allows the runner to take second base - and again when that happens the play is FC 6-4, E4 throw)

I understood the scoring on that play... just not the Darvish throw. Your explanation helps though.

Sloppy, but it works - nothing obvious there, so that's good.

Moreland always sits vs. lefties, since Soto is so much better vs. lefties I wonder if Napoli may get squeezed a bit on top of Young too.Vs. righties Napoli catches, Moreland's at 1B, then Young fills in sparingly for either Beltre or Olt at 3B or DH.Just thinking out loud...

I assume Soto will catch all of Dempster's starts.

And Young starting at 2B feels like throwing him a bone. "No, really... don't worry about Olt being called up."

Honestly, Daniels had properly pegged the end of Michael young era...i.e. before last season. Barring an unexpected trade we have a year plus of manipulating him in the line-up when there are options that are some combination of young/cheaper for probably the same output.

They got a strong 3.8 fWAR year out of him in 2011

Right you trade before the decline seems to be apparent

Glad to see:

[*]CJ getting shelled

[*]Bats heating up

But:

[*]Pitching

[*]I do not want to see Puljos again anytime soon - at least we don't have to see him until mid/late September

Somebody claimed Cliff Lee.....Nolan?
Well Philly reporter said that the Phillies couldn't work out a trade with the claiming team so they pulled Lee OFF waivers ............and there were teams lower in the standings than the Rangers that supposedly made claims as well
There are so many teams that are in playoff contention this year which will make it hard for a big waivers deal to get done. Lower placed teams will put in a claim just to prevent their competition from adding a piece

Meanwhile with the kids - Gallo hit #15 last night ...... one more to tie the league record, two more to set it ...and I think it would be good for the player and the club if they let him do it

Also not all peaches and cream for Joey, the night before I worked the game where he went 0-4 with three strikeouts ..... so let him learn

#16 last night. Tied the record. Acvording to Jason Cole he hasn't been getting many pitches to hit and has expanded his zone a bit resulting in more strike outs. Really excited about this kid. How much longer is AZL season and how much longer is low A season? Any chance he gets bumped to low A after #17 since Villanueva and Olt have moved on and up? Leaving some room at third?

Oswalt is butthurt about being in the Pen. I get that. You still go out there and throw when asked to throw. Don't refuse to go out for a third inning after you dominate for the two before.

I did not expect that from him.

I let him get the record, maybe hit a round 20, then move him up. Reading about that Rookie team every day with Gallo and Brinson is good fun.

AZL runs through the 29th and then playoffs on 30th and 31st.Rangers have a one game lead in their division but have to win it because Cubs and Athletics are about a hundred points ahead of the league in winning percentage in another division.I would like him to stay through the playoffs but I think from an organizational POV it might be how soon they have to move him up (hopefully post record) to another league to be eligible for the playoffs with a new team.
