***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (2 Viewers)

is this episode worth a watch, just fast forward or ditch it all together?  The last few posts are not very kind to this weeks show.

Let me guess, another episode where they are slowing building for the war.
There really wasn't much that happened.. Quick recap..

Rosita and Sasha are hell bent on revenge at the cost of their, and all their friends life's. Rosita and Sasha have a bounding moment, becomes friends, and then Sasha Runs into the compound and sends Rosita running back to the group.

Jesus admits to Maggie he is gay ... Daryl's  and apologizes to Maggie who tells him it isn't his fault Glenn is dead.

Eugene has a chance to Escape Negan, but says no thanks.. No idea if he is enjoying his powerful role, playing "Double Agent", or knows if he escapes Negan and the Saviors will come searching for him.

And that's about it.. A story line that could easily have been done in 20 minutes, but dragged out of an hour.. Way too many episodes this season of that..

As I mentioned before, this season has been about building up to the war by introducing us to new groups and the battle plans.. AKA ...  "Filler" Season.

Outside of the exchange between Maggie and Daryl, this episode was doo doo.

Sasha and Rosita proved that they cannot carry an episode on their own, unless they, you know.  During their discussion in the building waiting for Negan to emerge, I honestly did not care what they were talking about.  Abraham, Rosita's method of training herself for combat, how they missed March Madness... All I got from that scene was how I wished they'd look past their differences and embrace in a long, wet kiss.

My guess is she isn't dead. I think the writers are going to try and tell a component of the comic, and this will just be a total farce. It works in the comic, but in this case the actress who plays Sasha will not have the same look needed.
Can you unpack that a little?  In spoiler tags or even a PM would be good.  I'm curious as to what you're talking about regarding the comic.

I think Eugene is just enjoying his role with the Saviors.  He's safe and feels important.  That's what he wanted all along.  I don't think he is considering himself a double agent.  He felt needed as long as Abraham believed he had information for a cure.  Now he has Negan and company believing he's got several PHDs and he likes his new status.

That said, if Rick's group won the war, Eugene would gladly go back to their side and claim he was a double agent all along.  That's his character.

does anybody watch the "Fear the Walking Dead" promos? i haven't, but saw tonights. Anybody see if they had a girl and a zombie in a coal cart together rolling down to attack the 2 other guys? So for real, this girl and a zombie ride together in a 4.5 foot by 3 foot metal cart and all is fine? I swear these writers and people behind these shows are getting worse and worse. I am hoping i have this all wrong
I've fast forwarded through all of those.  I watched the plane snippets for the other show and basically the woman on the plane shows up in a few episodes of Fear the Walking Dead when they were out on the boat.  Then nothing else.     Figure this will be the same.  Some character on these short clips will interact with some main character in this summer season, then disappear.

And with only 2 episodes left you know more filler, less war is on the horizon. Build it right to the brink and....on the next season of TWD.

I think the next two episodes should be good.

Next week should be about getting the Oceanside group either on board or taking their weapons and coordinating all groups for the initial attack... be it upon the Saviors compound itself, or an outpost or two.

and of course the Finale should be good as well.. Should be the "Opening shots" of the war and yea, as you said, next season, or at least the first half, should be all about the war.

yep jesus is gay, I actually rewound that part. That's all that happened in this episode, played on my phone most of the show otherwise

wish me luck trying the spoiler tag:

ETA: hooray it worked

in the comic, Andrea has a much bigger part to play, and eventually becomes Rick's girlfriend (who now Michonne has taken that part). Andrea was also given to Carol where she turns bad ### and Sasha with the sniper role. Anyway, in the comic Andrea and Rick are together, and Abraham has another girlfriend who goes after Neegan at their home. I am fuzzy on the details because I haven't read it in sometime, but somehow she gets captured and I can't remember if she pretends to be Andrea, or Neegan just assumes it is Andrea. Neegan thinks he has something on Rick now, so holds her hostage as a bargaining chip. I think Rick calls his bluff and Neegan kills the girl thinking he just killed Rick's wife, when in reality it wasn't. In the comic, the girls looked similar. But on TV, I personally don't think Michonne and Sasha look anything alike and if they try to play this out this way it will be disappointing

and speaking of the comics, I recommend anybody still hanging onto this show check them out soon. You can stop around issue 107 or so, but for the most part there aren't really any spoilers anymore. I would stop when they start the war in the comic, but I think people will be amazed at the comparison. I was thinking last night where the show started to bother me, and I think it started with how they did Tyrese's character. No need to do what they did, they could have simply told it like the comic with a minor change or 2

Awful filler episode with lots of people I don't care about at all. As hinted to above, there was only one way to save the Sasha/Rosita scene and it didn't happen. I was working on my computer watching with my son and I think I missed a bunch of the dialogue and honestly, I didn't care and it didn't matter. How long was that damn music and no talk montage at the beginning? It felt like 15 minutes before anyone said a word and it was not dramatic in any way. No idea who is in charge of the show now, but it has gone to a new level of #### now. The comics can't be this bad, can they?

I would have rather watched Cookie Monster and the rest of the garbage pail kids walk in cadence around the dump than watch that episode again.

:goodposting: Last we saw Sasha ran into the compound, we have no idea what will become of her.

My guess is they capture her and try to use her to get to Rick and company as they are going to be hell bent on revenge for the people Sasha and Rosita killed.
I'm aware we didn't see her killed. But she's run into their stronghold shooting a machine gun and killing people. I don't see any plausible way they simply capture her untouched without putting a bunch of bullets or other manner of hurt into her. Or if she finds a dumpster to roll under.

IMO, her surviving this would continue to strain any sense of reality. But then again, choral did the same thing and got to hang out with the harem, so wtf do I know about this so-called reality.

I liked the fact the episode had multiple storylines going. But agree with the Variety review that by introducing such an expanded world Gimple hasn't been able to tell a cohesive story properly. The show works at its best in more of a confined space. I know people ##### about the farm but Season 2 was, in my opinion, the best season the show has had. On paper, the idea of all these communities and a new world is exciting stuff. But the execution has really been lacking. Far too often the emphasis isn't on the group together which is when the show is at its best.

Wasn't that episode lifted almost completely from the comics?

So you're saying there's a chance?

I liked season 2 except for one glaring issue that to today still bugs me.. The search for Sophia.. Common sense tells you that after a couple of days of not locating her there is .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance she is still alive.. Yet the entire search part was always "she's alive, I know it, we just have to find her"... Not to mention how she got "lost" in the first place ... Rick "I know there are Zombies all around us, but just stand right here little girl, alone and afraid, I'll be right back" :wall:

The search for Sofia resulted in one of the greatest scenes in series history and, in my opinion, one of the best moments I've seen on any series in the last decade. The payoff was worth the wait.

The first few seasons of this show are a million times better than what they are giving us now.  Like 2 totally different shows

Horrible episode. These writers are the worst. Terrible filler and they make every character do the dumbest things.

The only thing this show does well is an action scene. They can't even build up this war correctly. This reminds me of the episodes on Herschel's farm. The best thing to happen was the zombie attack on the farm and moving on to something else (the Prison). That's how I feel now. Just go to war and move on.

Did Jesus or someone else give Rosita and Sasha directions to Negans compound?

I don't remember either one of them being there but Sasha knew just where to go to get a sniper shot at the back door.

What was that whole scene about when Sasha and Rosita cut a hole in the fence, set a car on fire, then climb over the fence. Was all that just to get a car? Is there now a car shortage? They probably passed a half dozen used car dealerships up to that point. Or just one in someones driveway perhaps? And the one the take has no keys. So go with the Hollywood touch two wires together and start the engine while walkers are attacking. "We got the car started but we can only drive straight because without the keys the steering wheel is locked". So dumb.

The walkers with their heads fused to the fence with molten metal don't seem like such a deterrent now.

You could breach the fence right next to one without being harmed.

Saviors come for the doctor ... put him in the bed of 1982 Dodge diesel pickup truck with smoke stacks in the bed.

"You're extremely important to Negan now doc. Here's your ride ... try not to die of carbon monoxide poisoning before we get back to Negans. It's only 90 mins away.

and as someone else mentioned ... Fear TWD mini trailer thing they feed us every week. Apparently walkers in a coal cart with a canvas draped over them ... do not move or make noise until said canvas tarp is removed. Then they spring into full groan and feed mode.

The writers don't really put much thought or effort into these things.

that Fear the Walking Dead thing was simply inexcusable. I am fine if they want to try to be Z Nation and go for fun things, but holy hell how they try to pass stuff off like that is simply insulting to the viewers

You know what would be awesome ... if just one time, show someone start a car without keys the right way .... by smashing the steering column and pushing the release to turn the ignition (where the key goes in). This unlocks the steering wheel and the car runs as if the key is in it. THAT is how you steel a car. (an older car anyway) .Are they afraid it would spawn an old car steeling spree?

Why doesn't the show have one person on staff to assist writers and directors with this common sense stuff?

They can't write decent dialog.  No way in hell they are going to get stealing a car correctly

There are cars that can be stolen this way (but not the ones they're showing).

Not a fan of this season but these are the types of complaints about the show that mean nothing to me. Not trying to be a Richard; just saying I could care less if people aren't stealing cars properly or the lawns are mowed and stuff like that.

Guessing you were :banned: while watching last night, which isn't a bad thing....

They talked before that Jesus and Daryl gave directions on how to get there, and then showed Jesus drawing the compound.

As for the Bold part.. They showed them attempting to hot wire a car and Sasha saying "If this one starts I'll siphon some gas".. Pretty sure that meant they had been attempting to start MANY cars and failing at that point due to dead batteries.

Has there really been much reason to watch this season? Has there been much movement in the story line since the reveal of who died in the first episode?

it seems like they could have just jumped to the pending war and skipped over most of this season.

Not really. Easily one of the biggest failings of the season. Rick and Michonne's relationship is probably the biggest character evolution we've seen.

there has been talk for years that AMC has simply seen Walking Dead as a money tree, and are looking to tap it for all the money they can. So yeah, you are right on with not a ton of movement in the plot since the reveal

My counter to that is going into this season I think the character development had often been exceptional. There isn't a single character on the show who is still the same as we first met them. I thought Rick going from being uber-confident for most of last season to being literally brought to his knees by Negan at the end was really well done. I just don't agree with the belief the show has been bad for years or the writing sucks etc. I think the show was on strong ground all the way through this season's premiere. Unfortunately, none of the episodes since have done well in terms of taking the strength of the Season 7 premiere and really building off it.

yea, I'd say most this season could have been done in, at most, Half a season..
But if you read some interviews with Kirkman and other writers they "hint" at the fact they feel that the upcoming war will build out a story line that will go out another 5 to 7 seasons..

AKA :moneybag: by dragging us through this season to build for later.

It's funny but I think the episode that focused on eugene was the best one so far since the reveal
:2cents: Season opener and last week with the King and the death of the kid were, IMO, the best two. Eugene Episode had some good parts but, much like most episodes this year, could have been done as a half a episode and been fine.

I'm not going to judge the entire series by one season. I wasn't thrilled with Season 3 but 4, 5 and 6 were damn good. If this season ends with a dud and next season doesn't get off to a better start I'll be on board with calling for it to end.

I'm expecting at least the first half of next season to be weeks of  action.. They might just stretch out the upcoming war throughout the whole season just to pull back in some viewers that have left due to this "filler" season.

After 2+ years would every car battery be dead?

Well, since the last car they tried started I'd say no  ;)

honestly, I would love if you read the comic to get to where we are now in the story to get a sense of how this story should have been told. I think the character development is there, but from the feedback it seems that a lot of people are really not that interested in the characters. Look at where interest was for Daryl and Carol, and even Ezekiel when he first arrived. And with the way they have run the show and wasted viewer's time, there isn't a ton of emotional connection.

Look at the arc of Richard from last week. They could have made that much more impactful if they didn't always beat the viewers over the head with it. They could have planted seeds in prior episodes and let the viewers become more connected. George RR Martin explained it well as a 3-part of telling a story. You first give a hint for the top 1% of people who might catch it at that time, then tell a 2nd part where you reveal a little more so average viewers can catch it, then one last one where you ensure everyone catches the hint. It seems in Walking Dead show they only know how to do the 3rd step. This is seen horribly in the Dwight character and how they have shown his character this season. Could have been much better

only reason the show is on strong ground is because the source material is good. My complaint with the show is that it could have been, and should have been, much better.

At some point I might check them out. But given how good I think the series has been I really don't have many complaints. At least not prior to this season. This season has been a weak one without a doubt. Least favorite in the show's history.

I don't even remember if it was this season or last, but I liked the episode dealing with Dwight the most. not a lot- but the most. IIRC, I didn't even care too much about the negan head smasher reveal... but I'd have to go back and look.

I'd rather see them rub two wires together and "hotwire" it rather than get in the car and somehow miraculously find the keys to the car in the sun visor like in every other movie ever

Agree with 1, 2 and 7. As I said earlier 4 seems like a great idea on paper but the execution hasn't worked. I don't know if that necessarily means the idea was bad.

The rest I don't agree with (though I agree the Rick at the trash heap place shot was horribly awful). But 1 and 2 in particular are strong enough reasons to explain why this season has been the weakest so far.

Since Abraham died, I find myself not caring for either Sasha or Rosita.  I want to but just don't.  Could be the acting.  They just aren't good, imo.  I care for Daryl, Carol, Morgan, Rick, Michonne, even Eugene.  I like Jesus and Maggie.  The rest, I just don't care that much for.  Carl has been so removed from this season, I find myself not caring much about his character either.  And that little tramp, Judith..  what is she even doing?  I don't know.

I find myself liking Simon, of all people.  Of the villain leaders, the one I want to get a slow painful death is the Savior leader who meets Ezekiel's team for cantaloupe.   He's so smug, and his long haired apprentice too.  I hope they have a special death for those two.

We better get some memorable, creative deaths is all I got to say. Rat face being one of them.
