***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (3 Viewers)

I've been having a harder time getting into this season.  For those of  you that have watched this far is the season finale worth catching up for?  I've probably watched about half the season so I'd have to watch 5 or 6 episodes to catch up I think.

Watched it.

Loved the scene in the saviors factory where hundreds of people are all walking around in different directions.

And every thing ezeliel says.

And Morgan's interior monologue.

And Ricks inability to shoot negan.

Who was the skinny redhead at the end?

I'd say my favorite part, even though it gave us a anti-climatic end to the war, was Eugene's setup.. Completely caught me off guard.

I mentioned all the goofy things that popped to mind- especially that scene in the factory with countless people walking around in circles aimlessly.

But, other than all that, I actually didn't mind that one as much as the rest of the eps I saw this season.

But you really thought Eugene was going to participate in Ricky's extermination?

He was a tough read... Releasing Gabriel and the Doc was either a hint to where his alliance was, or he was just protecting himself if things failed for the Saviors.
And, as he mentioned to his :X victim, he redesigned the ammo based on Gabriel's doing so he didn't have a set plan until Gabriel gave him the idea.

I kept hoping he might turn, maybe take out Negan right before he hit "1" on his countdown.
But didn't expect what happened, which made me literally yell "EUGENE!?!?!"

That would probably have been suicidal, which is one thing Eugene is not.

I always thought Eugene was still one of the good guys and would help them win.  That being said I was really starting to doubt myself the last two episodes and thought he was as good as gone.  Eugene sabotaging their guns was my favorite part of the episode.  He's always been one of my favorite characters because he's so odd.

Last 2 eps were better than the rest of the season, but that's not saying much. 2 things:

1) I kept waiting for Morgan to catch the helicopter out to FTWD land :sadbanana:

2) HOW IN THE POLISHED LOUISVILLE SLUGGER HELL ARE YOU GONNA HAVE YOUR MAIN VILLAIN CARRY AROUND A BARB-WIRE-WRAPPED BASEBALL BAT AND NOT HAVE HIM KILL OR EVEN MAIM ANYBODY WITH IT FOR BASICALLY AN ENTIRE SEASON!?  Poor Lucille wasn't used for anything more than a fat finger to poke people in the chest with!

Lucille was pretty much just used to kill walkers and get all mucked up by their insides.  They sure liked making us think he was going to bash in some skulls with her a few times though.

You would have thought they would have burned Lucille in front of Negan but instead Negan will probably escape next season and have Lucille by his side.

My hope for this episode was that a good deal of the cast would be wiped out and next season would get back to a core of characters put in interesting predicaments.  Instead not a single cast member was eliminated other than Morgan (moved to FWTD) and Dwight (who could pop back in at anytime).   There are just too many characters and not enough screen time for any of them.

I am out.

ehh, it is a tough call. I would say it is worth it to binge if you are sitting around one afternoon or evening. You can fast forward anything that seems dull or played out,  but there are some parts that are ok.

with a whole new show runner and people working with the show, I am up for giving it another chance in the fall. I am 90% sure it won't make a bit of a difference because AMC and their budget constraints, etc.,  but we can see

and btw- re Rick's big speech at the end... I would imagine every person listening would be thinking oh-####- crazy, murderous but predictable, nutjob is gone... mass-murdering, society ending new nutjob is in. hooray.

And.....exactly no one dies.

Remember when people tried to compare this show to Game of Thrones?  How does that battle, the end of "The War", stack up to the Battle of the Bastards?

Really, after Gabriel telegraphed the malfunctioning bullets to Eugene some people didn't see that coming?  After Eugene catches him after he tried to run away and tells him he needs to have faith?

Darryl, pathetic.  Michonne, pathetic.  Rick with tiny Carl dancing around in his head, beyond pathetic.

-------------

Run Forrest Morgan Run!

With as few people around as there are and as many Costco's and Wall-marts that there must be between Virginia and Texas you are trying to tell me there is a shortage of socks?!?!

Cowboy Guy?  These shows do a ridiculous job of trying to import fictional charters (Foreign Speaking Garbage People from outer-space, King Zeke from the Knights of the Round Table) and now a Cowboy from Westworld.  Why not just have him be a real cowboy from the modern period with a starched shirt, belt buckle and 10 gallon hat for Christ's sake..

And yes, the zombie Morgan kills is the same guy he tried to help earlier in the episode.  .

Thought the episode was okay, but had low expectations anyway. Good to see Eugene essentially end the war by backstabbing negan.  I didn't view the last scene as Maggie and Daryl turning on Rick.  They're going to take out negan when they get the chance. How I saw it at least.

I liked the first episode of FTWD.  In the first ten minutes I realized I like the new characters better than all of the other characters on that show.  Was probably good because Madison wasn't on it.

finally watched it. thoughts:

  • HAHAHA. so bad.
  • Eugene's sabotage was cool, though.
  • so you've got the Saviors walking around the wall of Hilltop, scoping out the area, and they don't notice 50 chicks with flaming bottles standing 20 yards away?!
  • Maggie's "wait til they get a load of me..." speech with the suspenseful music was comically awful.
  • they send Dwight off into the sunset, while his conflict & tension with the group might have been one of the better storylines
  • it's a sad day, because after being with the show from literally Day 1, I cancelled the series from my DVR. bon voyage, Rick.
There was one cool thing about the show. After the big battle, from the hill that they were standing on, you could see for miles down into the valley below. anybody know where that is?

I forgot that all that build up and time spent on Oceanside only to have a few Molotov cocktails is lol funny as well
Which didn’t even matter since they were about to ambush them and shoot them all. All that stupidity for nothing. Just more new people next season.

I am assuming next season will be a big time jump. Like Maggie will have a two yo, ricks kid will be starting kindergarten ect ect...  alot of the groups will be spread out again and we won't see much of them until the next group of terrorists show up.

as long as it's not another pied-piper nonsense thing with that giant new herd.

I'm actually interested in seeing how they deal with nascent society rebuild and subsequent growing pains (I can just imagine the constant cutaways to negan in his cell, spouting told-ya-so wisdom)

No where near Alexandria, VA.

Actually, if the guys from Silicon Valley joined the show and started fighting zombies, I might tune in for that.

Just watched...to give you a sense of my involvement with the show, I didn't realize it was the finale until about 2/3rd's of the way when I noticed it down in the corner.

Interesting finish, I like Eugene's double cross but not letting Negan live. As the leader of the group, regardless of what your kid said, you gotta put that guy down. Makes no sense to keep him alive, none. You're setting up the great James Bond escape, he's not going to be rehabilitated, ever. I agree with Maggie/Jesus/Daryl on this one.

So FTWD is the new go-to program? Haven't watched any of it because when it first came out everyone said it was turrible.

I thought the season finale was pretty good, the best episode in quite awhile. That being said I would like the show to call it quits after Season 9. It's no longer compelling TV for me any longer. I don't think it sucks or is awful but it just doesn't have the same feel it had the first six seasons. It might be that 8 seasons of watching these characters suffer time and time again has taken its toll. So this season ended on a strong note and as a result my preference would be to see him try to put together one final good to great season and then call it a day.

FTWD just became terrible.  Can they do any other story?
If that dude just straight threatened Madison and her group and basically said they were going to kill them and take their stuff why didnt the group inside the stadium just open up and lite them up when she got back?  Did I miss something there or is it best to just not ask questions?

I guess they were parked out of range?  Should have at least just popped the leader.

She’s about self preservation for her kids and her. She’s not going to endanger that for the other 40ish folks.

That said, I had the same feeling. I just don’t get why everything has to be about a new bad guy. I guess it’s that whole warlord mentality you get with no central government/authority but it’s a little overdone. I still like the characters way better than TWD. They haven’t gotten stupid and change beliefs every show or every 30 minutes.

Oh I don't know about that. Ftwd has some interesting characters and if they don't mess up like they did with twd should end up being better

“Hmmm...you’re doing pretty well here.  Tell you what, give us your stuff and we’ll leave you alone or you can join us.”

“Ok, even though I have rifles pointed at your head, I’m going to just tell you to piss off and go close the door.  Goodnight!  I bet that solves it.”

I’ve seen this movie.  Turns out they should have killed the leader when they had the chance.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Same ####, (slightly) different title.

I'm like 3 seasons behind on FTWD.  But need to get back.  Alycia Debnam Carey is probably the hottest woman currently on television.

I'm not sure that they threatened them. They were told that their situation inside the stadium is not good and that they will run out of food and eventually die. I think they basically hang around like vultures waiting for them to die. Anyway, I think Madison wants to watch them a bit and do some reconnaissance. They are not aggressively under threat. You would think that she will plan it out.  They do look quite a bit hardened in the time jump,so I would guess these groups end up fighting at some point.

Considering the "jump forward" scenes are them out on the road, hijacking vehicles from folks, it's a pretty good bet they do, and that it doesn't end well.

I took that scene a different way.

He prefaced what he said to them by telling Madison about the "valve" bursting at the other site where every one was killed.  I took that to mean they sabotaged the tank which caused them all to die.  I thought he was issuing a similar warning that if they stay behind the fence, the group will do something to kill them.

Quite possibly. They have been the ones responsible for destroying the crops with the weevils thanks to that little girl.

Too many characters, too many years (especially when one of the top few main characters was like 7 years old and should only be like 10 by now, but was like 18).  Most of the actors were not well known at all heading into this, now they are, and there is no way to keep everyone around and still actually make money.

Just not sustainable.   Too ambitious.  Amazed they made it 9 years this way.
