Wasn't that "W" carved into the torso heads? And along a rock wall was some comment about Wolves. Didn't really catch the entire message, but I seem to remember that.

Okay - so the clear guy was cutting the zombies in half so they couldn't walk around and he was marking the zombies with the same symbols he was cutting into the trees. Not long before clear guys joins the party. Anyway the torso thing explained the lower body halves they found outside the gate when Tyrese was playing with the twins.

ETA - so much for my Black History Month theory.

"Wolves Not Far" was painted in the neighborhood. Michonne also saw it on the side of a barn when the group was driving into town in the beginning of the episode (you can kind of make it out if you pause it.)

Based on the radio broadcast that Tyreese heard, I'm thinking it's alluding to the band of outlaws/mutilators in the area. Also, nice shot of the destruction outside the town after Michonne & co went to investigate the trees. Didn't look like the fence had been brought down by walkers - something else.

Good episode - when they brought up twins - I was thinking it would be the priest and clear guy.......another theory of mine that went down in flames.

I didn't think much of Tyreese as a character but this was a really well-done look at who he was (or at least who the writers wanted him to be). It was really well done and all the imagery was really well done as well. It was a real departure in terms of how they typically tell stories on this show. I liked that a lot.

Plus, there's a lot of stuff that was included in the mix that I'm sure we'll see more of as the rest of the season goes along.

They are no where near Atlanta now. I'd say a good amount of time has passed since Beth was killed. At least a month or so. They don't just happen to be in Virginia the day after Beth dies.

Who knows if Morgan was able to follow them. He might have set up camp in the wake of the groups destruction. If the group gets back near Atlanta, Morgan might have a bed and breakfast ready to go.

You got the black and history parts right, though.

Aside from the grass looking cut in that neighborhood and the cars running on bad gas......that was a pretty good episode.
Loved the cameos
I thought it was cool that many of the images at the beginning all turned out to be from the bitten Tyreese's point of view.
I agree with this. As a matter of fact I commented to my wife at the beginning that Tyreese was on the shovel. Great writing right there.

Tonight's episode was filmed in my hometown of Peachtree City, GA. Noah's house was less than a half a mile from the house I grew up in. I recognized the neighborhood right away when they showed the street signs in the background.

DId anyone else think it was a bit odd when they were starting to rummage through the house and Michonne says "look I see garbage bags"? Not sure if that was just a random quote or if there was more to it like the zombies split in half. Odd episode

I dont think Ty was actually hearing that, it was a broadcast he heard a long time before meeting Rick's group, from sometime much earlier when this all started.

I have a feeling those outlaws come into play at some point, along with the mega-herd we saw a couple seasons ago

Good to see chewer back.

I would agree with anyone saying Tyreese's character was a total cluster#### on the show. If he was half the character he was in the comics he would have been a great character on the show.

Who knows where we go from here. Good episode. I hope they dont do the flashback/forwards and ghosts very often, but it was cool for this show.

And you know it's looking grim when Glenn still has Maggie waiting for him, yet "nothing matters anymore" cause pretty much all hope is lost.

Dark dark dark. Love it.

I think Sasha is going to out crazy dark Rick now. She lost her boyfriend and her brother and has no one left now. Plus, they showed her going nutso stabbing that guy in the previously on section. Complete Sasha meltdown coming within the next 2 episodes.

Lots of vague loose ends that episode. I hope the writers don't go all "American Horror Story" and leave things confusing intentionally. I always preferred the straight forward direction of the show.

Good episode. Really liked the conversations with Tyrese and the dead characters. Just when you think he is going to toughen up, drop his whimpy persona and be the badass we were hoping for, he sees Bob and the others in the car with him and he gives up. Oh well.

I want to know what's up with the half zombies in the truck. Someone collecting samples for the lab to try and find a cure? Or maybe trophies someone could mount on a wall so they could have folks over to point and laugh as the town's folk hung on the wall and went "maaaaawwaaack.. nyaaaa click click click, waaanyaaack..."?

Roman numerals on their foreheads? Maybe someone was making a clock out of the heads. Like a living chess set.. living/dead clock.

was a little drawn out in the end with the older characters there. Think the last 30 minutes was all his imagination and how much of a () he was.

Favorite episode behind Clear. Not a fan of his Tyrese's character, but I can see the area that he believed in, but he reminded me too much of Dale as time went along.

Total mixed bag for me.

Nicely/artistically directed and edited with some beautiful shots and decent acting. BUT... all centered around yet another idiotic ninja zombie bite- which is the laziest of writing. It's like they spent all this time working the 'stories of your life' angle in the writing room, and then just said "#### it" for how he actually gets bitten.

walk into the house.

stand around while dip#### #1 cries.

dip#### #2 hears a noise and then just goes wandering through the house.

dip#### #2 finds zombie behind closed door.

dip#### #2 walks into room and then spaces out/cries- blocking out all sounds of stealth zombie. for that matter... dip#### #1 also blocks out all sounds.

at that point, why even care what happens to either dip####- the writers obviously don't.

there were TWO zombies in there- maybe they had on some super quiet slippers that muffled their banging and groaning. just oof.

Should be interesting reactions after tonight..

Entertainment Weekly has an article where the directors, Rick and others mention that the 2nd half is very different and they expect some to love it and some to hate it.. :oldunsure:
Mark me for the hate it column. Well, at least closer to hate than love it. They tried to be a little to artsy in my view. The blood (or thick motor oil) on the picture. Looking at the pictures. It was all a bit over-done in my view. The writers definitely need to do away with the ole zombie sneaking up on people. You can aruge that Tyrese was totally absorbed in the picture (why? I'm sure some Psyche major will come up with something), but I'm just sick of the turn your back to the door and have the zombie show up shtick. In the middle of the forest, check. Tyrese getting jumped by a kid zombie which makes no noise, check. Also, that other black guy who can't chew gum and walk at the same time is able to fend off two zombies while laying on his back - another in the realm of unlikelihood.

On the positive side, at least Tyrese is now dead. His mamby-pamby view of the world just doesn't fit in Zombieville. I also loved the zombie kill at the gate. The way they did the sword and pistol kills was absolutely amazing.

This was an obvious nod to Omar

I could be wrong but weren't the radio broadcasts (done by Andy Lincoln by the way which was very cool) relaying what Rick and the group had done or encountered? I'll have to re-watch but I didn't get the sense it was any type of an actual broadcast. Everything in that episode after Tyreese was bitten was him going through the events of his life (at least his life as we had seen it on the show) so it makes sense that the "broadcasts" were part of all that as well. At least that's the impression I got but again I'll need to re-watch to be clear.

I do think the whole episode was a great way to visually document a dying person's life flashing before their eyes and the internal struggle of whether to keep fighting or just give up. As I've said, I didn't think much of Tyreese's character. He was the least interesting character on the show for me so his death won't have much of an impact on me as a viewer. But this was a great episode and Chad Coleman was great in it. Tyreese wasn't a great character but at least he got to shine on his way out the door.

These zombies are so slow and easily killed that it really is the only way they can get to a human. That is one of my biggest problem with the entire show -- there is no way these zombies could have taken over the earth.

Dark dark dark. Love it.
Yeah Glenn's in a real dark place. He's so dark even Rick's like "WTF is up with you?"

I also think it's great. :)

Everything about this episode was so well done. Visually it was terrific, the story was strong and some of the little character moments (like the one you mentioned) were just as good as the bigger moments going on with Tyreese.

eta: So glad they didn't let Tyrese live after cutting his arm off.

I was also waiting for Tyrese's arm to pop out of the grave. Would have been cliche, but also awesome.

I thought the "newscast" over the radio was pretty ham-handed, but overall liked the style of the episode, even if- again- the center of it... how Tyrese died... was idiotic and the typically bad side of WD.
