***Official*** Too Much Government Force Thread - List And Discuss Both Left and Right Abuses In Here (1 Viewer)

It seems like a one-way ratchet in favor of limitations to the executive branch.  IK didn't limit his scope to the executive branch, but I think that could be implied by virtue of the "want DJT to have this authority" phrasing.
To clarify a little, I'm thinking especially about the executive, but fatguy is fair to read this more broadly as a preference on my part for smaller government.  Small government provides a pretty good fail-safe against bad elected leaders.

The flip side is that it limits what good leaders can effectively do, which is why we're not exactly on the same page.  But I understand the argument and we definitely need to change some laws as a result of these past four years.

That seems like a one-way ratchet in favor of small government, which is I know your personal preference, but I don't think it's fair to judge what all Presidents would do based on what our worst President would do.
When DHS was stood up and opposers of it were pummelled with the Anti-American shtick, one of the consistent themes was "prepare for the worst, hope for the best" is the bare minimum of caution we should take with individual/department permissions.  Hopefully now, people can see why that was such a big deal.

One of the key takeaways from this administration is that from now on, every time somebody proposes some new government agency, regulatory framework, or other expansion of federal power, we should ask ourselves if we would want Donald Trump to have this authority.
It's a question we should have been asking long ago. Same goes for justices and judges that clearly read text, intent, and even statutory language to construe new meanings out of what should be settled limits. The Interstate Commerce Clause back to Wickard should be re-examined.
