Yeah, she seems off for sure.Pugh or Press have to be better options than Rapinoe right now. She's struggled a bunch today.
Press looked a lot better than Rapinoe getting the start in game 2.Pugh or Press have to be better options than Rapinoe right now. She's struggled a bunch today.
I officially give up with this actively involved stuff, and accept that I will just never get itAlso, Lloyd was offside and pretty obviously impacting the defender's play on the goal.
i'll take it for $110 win

The only time in the group stage she really had to make a play she screwed it up and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Called back for offside. But she botched it. No telling if she's going to be a liability going forward. So is our goalkeeper that good or are they just playing solid defense in front of her?
Yeah, she hasn't had to do much until today. Thought she made some good decisions today. Chile had like 1 shot on goal. The defense has been sensational so far but bigger tests are ahead. O'Hara and Dalkhemper are so f'n good back there. The only time in the group stage she really had to make a play she screwed it up and the ball ended up in the back of the net. That's because it's a #### rule and never called right even as written. [/crusade]I officially give up with this actively involved stuff, and accept that I will just never get it
Defense. Sweden is a talented team. They aren't as good as they were 4-5 years ago, but they're still a top 10 team in the world. There was a reason the US women were defending their shellacking of Thailand, because they knew there was a good chance Sweden could play with us and a draw was a very possible outcome. Sweden usually give us trouble with their quickness and passing ability, but our backline and Horan were incredible at stopping their runs before they even started and the few they did have got stonewalled quite well. I'm not saying the Naeher wasn't part of that, but she still is truly untested in this WC so far thanks to our defense. So is our goalkeeper that good or are they just playing solid defense in front of her?
I'm just guessing, but I think Ellis is trying to manage her minutes. She's struggled to stay healthy historically.encaitar said:Thoughts... Mewis is good. Her distribution on offense is exactly what we're missing in the men's team.
Rapinoe... poor game. If she has another one like this she needs to sit.
Morgan/Lloyd... Obviously Morgan is first choice there. I don't see her messing up that easy chance Lloyd had late.
Ravelle... Gonna be a great one. No idea why she was subbed out early as I thought she was having the best game for the US.
Backline was amazing. Worked together really well and had great communication. Dunn struggled a bit in the first half, but thought she had a solid second.
That sounds reasonable. It’s not something that will really matter if/when Ertz is healthy and we have 4 top quality midfielders to switch around, but Press and Heath struggled to keep the midfield shape when they took their turns there.I'm just guessing, but I think Ellis is trying to manage her minutes. I have no idea what this means. You got a video of someone getting a yellow for this?http://theifab.com/news/temporary-dispensation-related-to-cautions-for-goalkeeper-encroachment-during-kicks-from-the-penalty-mark-at-the-fifa-womens-world-cup-2019
New rule in place for Goal Keepers - if the match goes to Pens to decide the outcome. GKs will not receive a yellow card for encroachment during PKs to decide the game. GKs will still receive a yellow if they encroach during a penalty in normal time. Kicks will still be re-taken if the GK encroaches - but we don't run the risk of a GK picking up a red card if the match goes to pens.
"The issue of keepers being penalized by the VAR for coming off the line has been in the spotlight at the women's World Cup.I have no idea what this means. You got a video of someone getting a yellow for this?
Yeah, Fox didn't plan this very well.Annoying that the US team will not get a weekend game until the finals.
Most recent example is the Scottish keeper leaving her line to stop a PK from Argentina, which would have sealed their win, IMO. Argentina got a rekick and tied it up. Really crappy way to decide a game, imo. I'm not a huge soccer guy, so I'm sure the subject has been beaten to death in other threads, but this particular example infuriated me."The issue of keepers being penalized by the VAR for coming off the line has been in the spotlight at the women's World Cup.
Three goalkeepers so far have been shown yellow cards in the tournament for contravening this law."
I think both are fine. They were precautionary moves. You want them at full strength moving forward and when you are as deep as our girls are, you can be precautionary.i think they did ok, no?![]()
reading about a Morgan boo-boo, along with Ertz ... nothing confirmed for Monday yet

Boy, I would leave Mewis in there as a starter, but this just speaks to the depth of this team. Mewis has been outstanding. This was fantastic game for us,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis said afterward. “When you come out of the group stage, a lot of what we talk about is mentality and being healthy and I think we’re in a really good place.”
The performance reinforced the USA’s status as the title favorite. It also left Ellis with a high-quality problem: Who will she start in Monday’s round of 16 encounter against Spain?
Ertz and Morgan are expected to start the match in Reims. Both would’ve gone the distance had this been an elimination match. The fact that it wasn’t was precisely why they were rested. Now, though, it’s all feet on deck. That means at least one of Thursday’s starters will likely move to the bench. And the leading candidate is probably World Cup rookie Samatha Mewis, who has been one of Ellis’ best players so far.
Mewis took Ertz’s usual spot in front of the back line against the Swedes, just as she had in the opener against Thailand when Ertz replaced the injured Becky Sauerbrunn at center back. She assisted on Lindsey Horan’s goal less than three minutes in – the earliest of the competition – and was dominant in the middle of the field the rest of the way.
“She just offers something elevated in that position. She can break lines on the dribble, she break lines on the pass, and she’s got a shot that I’ve been on the end of a few times and she can really get a hold of it,” said Sauerbrunn, who reclaimed her spot for the last two games after returning to fitness. “She just offers a lot of different things so it’s nice to have her in the middle of the field, because you never know how a team is going to defend against her.”
Mewis wasn’t necessarily projected as a starter before the tournament, despite her lights-out form in the lead-up to the World Cup. Now, she’s at the very least given Ellis something to think about.
“At this point, just having the depth that we need, especially in that midfield with legs, I think that’s important,” Ellis said. “We’re going to need legs.”
They’re also going to need to keep improving. As good as this game was, there’s still a feeling the U.S. hasn’t hit its ceiling. That’s a scary thought for the 15 other teams that remain in contention for the trophy.
If FIFA’s top-ranked side gets past Spain, that much-talked about quarterfinal against the host nation will follow provided France — which was far from convincing in its last two outings — gets past Brazil.
Ellis and Co. aren’t looking that far ahead. But after dispatching Sweden, one gets the sense they are eager to welcome all comers.
“I think if you’re scared to play a team in the World Cup,” midfielder Rose Lavelle said, “you honestly don’t deserve to win it.”
+260 ain't a bad option, but I've found betting soccer is about as hard as any sport to try and make money wagering due to the three possible outcome scenarios. YMMV.Deutsche Dames at -580 vs Nigeria tmrw, but -210 to win first half ... how heavy to plunk here? thinking the half bet is stealing money - the W bet is a lock, but the R.O.I. is straight dog####.
meanwhile ...
Norway +240, Australia +108, draw at +260 <----- reg time on the draw, of course.
thoughts?

yeah, i've been given an edumication these past few weeks on the footy wagering jargon of "1X2"+260 ain't a bad option, but I've found betting soccer is about as hard as any sport to try and make money wagering due to the three possible outcome scenarios. YMMV.
It is probably to help hold down the TV ratings so they can get away not paying themYeah, Fox didn't plan this very well.
Punishment for excessive celebration, imo. Can't have women jumping for joy for scoring goals in primetime. Fox is thinking about the children here.It is probably to help hold down the TV ratings so they can get away not paying them

Yeah, I don't like it at all.this is a brand new thing.
