Official US Women's soccer thread: ***Update- Christen Press retires (2 Viewers)

Crystal Dunn; who was out of position for about 80 of the 95 minutes.
Playing 1v1 against a ####### stud.

And still got back into position OVER AND OVER AND OVER in time to block the cross or shot.

Y'all are smoking some incredible #### if you don't think they US played well.  They owned virtually all of the good chances.  Against the 2nd best team in the world.  In the World Cup.  In a true road game.

I am with you in that I thought Dunn had the toughest match up and she battled the whole time.    France's best chance was the thru ball to Diani and Dunn caught up and denied her.   If not for a questionable offsides call, Dunn would have had the cross to put US up 3-0.

The biggest issue I saw was the numerous attempted clears that went right to France just outside the box.

Whole lotta unforced turnovers tells me they didn't play quite as well as you are asserting.

I don't disagree that they turned it over and France had a ton of play in the game.  But the US went up 1-0 early and France is a very good team playing at home.  I'd expect them to be on their front foot quite a bit.  But I lost count of the number of crosses and shots the US blocked before they were dangerous.  It had to be like 20+ for the game.

And the US was super dangerous when they got near goal.  Other than the goal, did France have any top tier chances?  Compared to the five best US shots?

Dunn played about as well as could be expected.  Was she out of position a lot of times?  Yes.  She's playing out of position in the first place.  Not surprising she's not instinctual about where to be.

Despite that, she worked tirelessly to get back into position when Diani got a run on her.  She did it admirably all game.  Do I wish she cleared the ball better?  Of course I do, but defending against one of the world's best attackers was her primary job and she did well enough there.  I don't think we're gonna get much better from the LB position unless Ellis actually decides to play a LB there.
