G O O D !!!!!
Matt Lienart = Chad PennigtonNeither one can make a throw over 10 yards without looking like they are throwing a javelin. He will probably be a good NFL QB but way overvalued if he goes to the Saints at the 2 spot.
Both are Lollipoppers with weak NFL armsnope texas gets the ballSC gets the ball to start the third.
Right???
Ooooops I missed the start.
I have been one of the guys questioning Leinart's arm, but he's actually showed me tonight plenty of arm strength. The timing of the pass plays and the speed of the Texas DB's are the problem, not Matt's arm. 2nd half should be great. If USC can tackle, I think they'll settle down, execute on offense, and win. That's a big if though..Matt Lienart = Chad Pennigton

Agreed. He has been throwing with better velocity late in the year, but he still floats passes he should zing. The pick at the goal line is six if he puts it on a rope. His accuracy suffers when he throws harder. In past games when he and the offense have struggled in the first half, they just pound it on the ground in the 3rd quarter. Should be some battle coming up.I have been one of the guys questioning Leinart's arm, but he's actually showed me tonight plenty of arm strength. I agree, the second half should be great. As far as his arm goes, a play or two before the interception he made a low throw that was caught(great catch BTW). I think, from seeing him throw quite a bit that that was a classic example of his weak arm. He had to take a few steps to his left and could get into his throw. So the ball was down and away, a 10 yard pass. When he is moving, or just not able to clearly step into a throw the ball dies on him quite a bit. Who's Lynert?Anyone else think that Young looks like the better of the two quarterbacks tonight?
Nice arm strength with a tight spiral
Culpepper-like ability to withstand a hit and make the pass.
Has speed and moves of a poor man's Mike Vick.
Maybe I'm overstating it, but he looks better than Lynert to me.
I just said the same in the QB Draft thread. Leinart just made a nice throw though.Anyone else think that Young looks like the better of the two quarterbacks tonight?

Yeah it looked good, 10 seconds to throw and two skip steps to get some pop on the ball, just like a javelin. And it was still only a 15yd pass.I'd say Leinart's arm looked good on that one...
I think that Leinert did not put enough zip on the ball on a couple passes, the INT earlier in the game, it sort of hung and it was picked off. That doesn't mean he can't put more on it, I think he underestimated the speed of the DB.....which most young Qb's do in the NFL, underestimate the speed of the game, something he'll have to do.As far as Young......he's impressed me with running the ball, basically running thru arm tackles where most guys would go down. However, he too IMO has lofted up a few deep balls, not really accurate and floating.Anyone else think that Young looks like the better of the two quarterbacks tonight?

This sounds about right. The fact that Young can stand in the pocket take one step and toss the ball 30yds is the big differance. He can learn to be accurate by practicing. Lienart cannot learn to have a stronger arm. And dont get me wrong I still think Lienart can be a good NFL QB, but should be drafted about where Pennington was, late teens.I think that Leinert did not put enough zip on the ball on a couple passes, the INT earlier in the game, it sort of hung and it was picked off. In the NFL, he'll get tackled and tackled hard. For him to be successful, he's going to have to become a better or more accurate deep ball passer. Leinart to me looks to be the better NFL QB at this point.
Waaaaay too early. Why didn't Texas go for 2 there?
too early to make it a 7 point lead?Waaaaay too early. Why didn't Texas go for 2 there?
Too early to not make it and lose on FGs..too early to make it a 7 point lead?Waaaaay too early. Why didn't Texas go for 2 there?
There will be more scoring opportunities throughout the game, so taking the risk for 2 points now isn't needed. If USC goes down and kicks a field goal.......then they're still up by field goal etc......... if it were somewhere in the 4th quarter they would have gone for 2.too early to make it a 7 point lead?Waaaaay too early. Why didn't Texas go for 2 there?
STUDTD WHITE !!![]()
I would think the change in the flow of the game would have dictated they go for 2. They are averaging 8 YPC right now.Too early to not make it and lose on FGs..too early to make it a 7 point lead?Waaaaay too early. Why didn't Texas go for 2 there?
Agreed, but VY still looks like the hands-down best player on the field.STUDTD WHITE !!![]()

I don't know........but the right side of the USC line is owning the Texas D line. How do the Texas OLinemen rate as NFL prospects? They seem to be doing a darn good job against pretty good competition.
Lots of comparing between Leinert and Young, deservedly so.
However, who's the Heisman Trophy winner on USC. I know who looks like the better back tonight.
Reggie Bush is going to be the No.1 pick overall?

I think this thread has been Lienart,Young,White,Young,White,Lienart.
HA! Exactly what I was thinking! Hmmmm Young or Carr, Young or Carr.....I know, just one game snipit....Lots of comparing between Leinert and Young, deservedly so.

Ed Zachery. One might argue that Houston would not need as good of an Oline with Young back there........
Young, as I have argued all year, IS ACCURATE. He's been excellent in this regard tonight. He's made a few very tough throws across his body, under pressure, etc., and they hit the mark. He looks a little odd, but he IS accurate. He's 19-23 right now!Brees developed more arm strength by strengthening his torso. Leinart can do the same. The fact that Young can stand in the pocket take one step and toss the ball 30yds is the big differance. He can learn to be accurate by practicing. Lienart cannot learn to have a stronger arm. And dont get me wrong I still think Lienart can be a good NFL QB, but should be drafted about where Pennington was, late teens.
My sentiments exactly...NFL kickers stink these days, too. I was just telling a buddy today - "If you have a son, spend an hour a day teaching him to kick a football. Make a 40 yard fieldgoal consistently, earn $1MM a year for 10-12 years."What is with all these crappy NCAA kickers. My goodness one would think a top caliber program would have a leg on scholarship. Ridiculous!!
I understand your point, but Brees was the top pick in the second not #2 overall.Young, as I have argued all year, IS ACCURATE. He's been excellent in this regard tonight.
