I'm taking the same approach. I understand why many fans will be skeptical. They've heard it all before how things will be different. I've pretty optimistic, however, that things have and are changing for the better.Vinny is gone. Players reportedly no longer have an open door to Dan Snyder. The team actually has a real GM and a 2 time Super Bowl winning coach as the head of the organization (and remember how many fans and people in the media claimed no good, let alone great HC would ever coach for the Skins due to Snyder's interference). These are all extremely positive changes. In fact, I'm of the belief this is the best decision making in an offseason the team has made since Snyder acquired the team, and we haven't even hit FA yet.

This seems lost on a lot of people when they have been talking personnel since Shanny and Allen were hired. I guess the assumption is that the culture hasn't changed with Snyder still there, but how can you know that at this point?

The point is not lost on me. I'm glad Vinnie's gone. If Snyder does not meddle now, the front office decision-making should be head and shoulders above anything we've seen in years. I do think Allen and Shanahan are capable of running a good show.But if Allen and Shanahan are in their 13th meeting to discuss personnel ---- present Redskins, players in the draft, and free agents --- and Snyder opens the door to say "remember, I'll get you guys Peppers or Sproles or whoever you want", then things are not going to be so different. Because that is how the team has reached its present state: "laughingstock"

What exactly have they decided (besides "no direct player access to the owner", which is a good change and similar to things Marty did)?

The acquisition of Shanny and Allen and shipping Vinny out of town. And the way it appears they're going to lead the organization. AFAIK, there isn't going to be a "joint decision making process" when it comes to personnel decision like there was under Gibbs (with Snyder significantly involved). Right now there appears to be a major change in the culture of the organization as compared to years past.Unless FA and the draft is completely "debacled" (like drafting Tebow at 1.04 and not acquiring any OL in the draft or FA for example), I think this will be the most successful offseason in a very long time.

106.7 will have a show tonight starting at 10 PM and going through the very early morning with all the breaking news. I think they plan on tracking the Redskins One on the show.

Well my question was intended to mean "what decisions have Shanahan and Allen made?"There's no reason to believe Snyder won't be part of the decision-making process. And since there is currently interest in one or more high dollar glamor free agents, it suggests Snyder is still involved in decisions. Going for the expensive glamor free agents has always been his style. I share your hope that Snyder is uninvolved in player moves. But this interest in Peppers is a huge red flag to Redskin fans that Snyder's still involved and still doing what he always does. I don't see anything that Allen and Shanahan have decided, except cutting off direct player access to Snyder. Oh, yeah, and maybe they'll switch to a 3-4 defense.

What are you basing this on, besides Snyder's past behavior? You really think Shanahan is going to let Snyder interfere with his personnel decisions? I laughing just picturing Shanahan's face after Snyder tries to tell him who the team should sign or pick in the draft. I see Snyder having bascially no influence on what decisions Shanahan makes aside from how much money he is willing to give him to spend.

I understand fatness' hesitance to believe things will be different, but I'm with #72 here. When Shanahan took the job, I heard from many "experts" that he would not have accepted the job if Snyder was going to be involved. The firing of Vinny and hiring of Allen definitely gave off the vibe that there would be changes. For now, I'm going with that. And, I don't think high-price glamor signings are necessarily a sign that Dan is part of the decision-making process. This is an uncapped year. They have more freedom to go get whoever they want. The decision-making process is going to be a little different.
 
I wish they had tendered Rogers for a 2nd rounder...or whatever it would take to get someone to sign him.

They can still trade him for less than a 1st round pick if they want to. Rogers appears to have talent. I think it worth it to see if the new coaching staff can get more out of Rogers than the previous staffs.

Not sure exactly how it all works, but I think he'd have to sign the Redskins tender off first before he could be traded for less than a 1st. If another team makes him an offer and the Redskins don't match, it's going to be a 1st. I don't see that happening.

I'm just not a fan of his current attitude. He wants out. He's not talented enough to keep around with a bad attitude.
 
I just got home and logged on to post those cuts, and you guys beat me to it. I shoulda known. :kicksrock:

Bruce Allen has a press conference at 7 pm, if that hasn't been mentioned yet.

 
So instead of cutting Portis like so many people suggested, they solidified his hold on the starting job by cutting the guys behind him. I don't disagree with their moves.

:goodposting: I've remained a Portis supporter and never believed he was an automatic cut like so many other people did. (Let me guess, my whole drive home is going to be Andy and Steve #####ing about this, right?) I don't predict a 1500-yard season or anything, but I think he can still play...as long as he properly conditions himself. If he's in good shape, I think he surprises a lot of people. And I still hope they draft a RB to fully take over in a couple years.

Once Shanahan announced Portis is the running back, I thought Portis will be given every opportunity to work hard and be the main back. I guess Betts and Cartwright just don't have what Shanahan looks for in a running back.

All of the cuts coming out don't have Snyder's fingerprints on them. Randle El and to a lesser degree, Betts and Cartright always appeared safe in the previous regimes.

I'd only point out that Shanny has his own checkered history of big free agent signings, especially on the d-line. You want, for example, to guess who signed Daryl Gardener to a huge contract after that two-thirds of a season he spent with the 'Skins back in 2001? The Shanny Broncos were one of the few teams that you could mention in the same breath as the 'Skins as having blown the most money on bad veteran FA signings this past decade.

Now on PFT, there was a blurb wrt to the Seahawks going after Peppers that mentioned the Redskins possible pursuit of JP:

"There's a fairly strong theory in league circles that the Redskins won't be pursuing defensive end Julius Peppers but that, if they wanted him, they'd get him."

So maybe they won't be going after Peppers then. And with SD tendering Sproles who are the Skins going to go after?

Everyone thinks Dansby is going to NYG.

Rolle looks to be overpriced.

Should be interesting.

I'm not a fan of his current attitude either, but everything I've read has led me to believe his bad attitude is the direct result of current ownership. With the new regime in charge at Redskins Park, it wouldn't exactly shock me if he does a 180 attitude wise. That being said, if they can get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him, they should jump at the chance.

Can someone explain to me the Chargers can go from not tendering Sproles at all to giving him the highest possible tender? Maybe to gauge his worth? They obviously intended to tender him to begin with. He's really a guy I wanted to get.

Is it possible that they were trying to work out a cheaper multi-year deal with him?Or maybe the Chargers were planning on targetting a specific rb for their 1st round pick and after the combine they determined there was too great of a chance said rb would be taken before their pick.

Yes he is. Also, it was good to see that the Eagles voted Mike Vick as the team's recepient of the Ed Block Courage award. He's so deserving.

I agree completely. The talk of free agent signings seems like Snyder. The cuts do not.
 
I just heard Cornelius Griffin was cut. Can anyone confirm that?

I thought he was still productive. Not enough to justify the $$$ I guess.

Also, J.D. Skolnitsky and Eddie Williams
