Nine year season ticket holder here, four years in club. Gave em up the year before we drafted Griffin. I still go to 3-4 home games but I hate Snyder.
Hate is a mighty strong word, but I hear ya and it's a good indicator how a person after being dedicated (season ticket holder) for 9 years decides he has to take a step back. I'm sure many are holding on to them for the fact of possibly seeing a :tfp: as the curiosity of seeing carnage on the side of the road/tracks is just too compelling to turn away from...
Lol if hate is a strong word what's HTTR? I couldn't care less how you feel about either, but it's a strange stance to take consdiering your screen name.
Look at the signature....

Anyone who is a Redskins fan or knows anything about them will tell what it means. Thus, its in the signature for people like you.
Settle down with the cartoons, guy. I choose not to view signatures because of people like you.
You spend enough time in Redskins threads that if you don't know what HTTR means you are awfully slow witted.

There was another guy here last year who wandered into the Redskin thread and didn't know it meant Hail To The Redskins. So we're averaging 1.0/yr. now.

Nice to see front-office leaks coming out again on gameday. They're starting even earlier than last year. What a cluster ####.

Yeah according to Rappaport, the front office has sided with Gruden instead of Super Bob and he could be benched. I will believe it when I see it but the idea that even Snyder and Allen have given up is something.

Oh well at least they made millions on the kid so in their world everything else is just gravy now

Hard to see how anyone could defend rg3 today. Pretty good defensive effort and rg3 was protected all day with a commitment to the run in a ultra conservative offensive approach. Yet, every time rg3 dropped back, u knew a sack was a threat as he held the ball too long again and again. This guy just doesn't understand the qb position.

I can't wait for the draft. At least then I can have the illusion of hope via a 'new' qb of the future. <_<

At what point do you start Colt McCoy? Seriously. RG3 is just not a good NFL quarterback. He's run out of excuses and the clock seems to have ticked enough, no?

You're falling for the same trap over and over again. Only an elite QB like Luck or Manning will save this dumpster fire of an organization. We could draft JJ. Watt next year and we'd still be terrible. If they don't think there is a good enough QB prospect to draft with the 3rd or 4th pick they should trade out of the first round this year. Try and get an extra 1st next year. Go BPA every time with the rest of their picks.

Since Snyder is never going to sell the team. Getting an elite QB is all that matters. You get one of those you're in the playoffs every year.

That's not going to happen though. They'll be just good enough to keep missing that QB. Hell I'd extend RG3 and keep playing him. That should guarantee we get the first pick next year.

Terrible job at the end of the game by Gruden, just terrible. Needing to go a long way for a score, he leaves Moses 1 on 1 with Aldon Smith and he pulls Alfred Morris (good pass blocker) and puts in Roy Helu who doesn't even try to help block any more. Moses had no TE help, no RB help, and that was that. Gruden all but guaranteed failure there.

And the press will love him when he says who did what wrong, and none of them will ask him about his coaching.

This team/franchise has so many things wrong with it, it's just sad.

This is the 3rd 1st-round QB we'll have that just totally flames out (Ramsey, Campbell, Griffin) and they'll all do it in similar ways. Shoddy OL play that makes them forget how to play the QB position. This franchise has neglected the OL for so long that it's no surprise we're in this situation. Trent Williams is the only good player we have on the OL and it's not even close. But when a team would rather sign older guys in FA to play along the OL, this is what you get. Look at Dallas who dedicated high draft picks to their OL. They not have one of the best OLs in the entire league. The Skins? Bunch of junk.

I honestly don't know what's wrong with Griffin. He looks almost like he's afraid to throw the ball. What happened to the decisiveness he showed in 2012? It's like he's forgotten how to play QB. Yes, the OL hasn't done him any favors, but he hasn't exactly been helping himself lately either. We play Indy next week and Luck and Griffin can't seem to be further apart in terms of their careers at this point. I just don't understand.

Defense played well, but as usual with them, as soon as we grab the lead late, they allow the opposing team to come down and get a score. There's still no reason IMO to bring Haslett back next year. But something tells me they probably will just because.

Again, none of this should be surprising. This is a team pretty much built exclusively from FA. We've done this year after year after year and we've pretty much had the same results. Every once in awhile, things break well and we make the playoffs, mostly due to a crazy late season winning streak. 7 in a row in 2012, 5 in a row in 2007, 6 in a row in 2005. We haven't had a team that's been good all season from beginning to end since Snyder took over. We'll do the same this offseason too. Try and spend money in FA to bring guys in here and we'll end up with the same result.

At what point do you start Colt McCoy? Seriously. RG3 is just not a good NFL quarterback. He's run out of excuses and the clock seems to have ticked enough, no?
This is what I don't understand. If Gruden is going to make a change, it should be back to Cousins. Going to McCoy basically says the 2 young QBs we drafted just 2 years ago are ####. McCoy offers nothing here long-term. And if Gruden thinks he does, then he won't be here long.

Go back to the guy who unloads the ball before there's any pressure on him, and frequently throws it to the other team? Good lord I hope not.

Gruden's not doing so well coaching his QB's this year, is he?

Scary to see how far along Luck and Wilson are compared to RGIII. I understand RGIII has had injuries, but classroom stuff and basica fundamentals of the position seem to have escaped this young man. His social media mastering and his body sure is in shape though.

Cousins, been there done that...just as bad.

Believe me, I'm not a huge Cousins fan, but he has a better chance of being the future than McCoy. Agreed? The offense was at least moving well under Cousins. I didn't see anything from McCoy that made me think, "Yeah this is the guy the Skins need to start every week."

But you're 100% correct, Gruden being a big QB guy coming in, has done nothing with any of these 3.

I wish we all rooted for a team that people didn't laugh at.

Is anyone rooting for more wins this year? What do you want to see the rest of the way?

I get most excited for Tress Way. I'd also like to see some exciting plays from DeSean. Woohoo

Luck and Wilson play for professional organizations that hire and retain qualified coaching staff and don't dissolve into petty bickering and soap operas at the first sign of difficulty.

RGIII has had a bad year but pretending that he's responsible for even 10% of the Skins' current predicament misses the point IMO. 2012 happened, it's silly to ignore it and act like RGIII was a bust on arrival. Injuries have been a problem (and even the injuries are partly the org's fault due to field conditions at FedEx and the way RGIII was handled in the playoff game and the recovery), but so has the ####storm that constantly surrounds this organization.

So how do Washington fans view RGIII now? Is he fixable? Can he reclaim starting NFL QB status again? I am not asking about this year specifically, but more about long term? Do you feel he has a chance for 2015? If you answer yes, what would you need to see from him at the end of this year and over the offseason?

Personally, I have not been a fan of Gruden's at all. Not saying this is on him, but I don't care for how he runs his shop over there. He may eventually become NFL HC material, but I feel he is far from that at this point.

I'm probably in the minority- most fans think the current problems are mostly due to RGIII's poor play this season. It's just easier to have a scapegoat who can conceivably be upgraded instead of facing the likelihood that your favorite team is screwed from the top down, because Snyder isn't going anywhere for a long long time and Allen might be around for a while too.

As far as RGIII's near future, the Skins have to make a call on his option year pretty soon. Even someone like me who gives him the benefit of the doubt and thinks we should be patient sees that you really can't really give him that 2016 money at this point.

I don't think RG3 is the problem. Drafting a QB early next year would be throwing more wood on the fire. I think the team has just spent too much focus on upgrading the "skill" positions, it has neglected everything else. Did they really need to sign both Jackson and Roberts last year? They have too many WRs, they don't even have enough room on the gameday roster for all of them.

Agreed 100%. No reason to take a QB early. We have so many other needs on this team than a QB. Even if we did take a QB early, it's not going to fix all the problems this team has. We need CB, S, RT, RG way more than a QB. We also could use some depth at the LB positions as well as just about anywhere across the OL and DL.

But yes, we were way too worried about getting Jackson and Roberts that we neglected other spots. It's nice that we have 3 good WRs, but there is nothing else around them.

This draft may be the most important in franchise history. Good teams build through the draft. How many players have we hit on lately in the draft? Morris, Kerrigan, Robinson, Breeland, Williams are about it. We only have 4 starters on offense that were drafted by the team (Griffin, Morris, Williams, Reed). Darrel Young was an UDFA so I guess you can include him if you want. Even still, that's only 5 starters out of 11. On defense, we have 4/5 (Kerrigan, Murphy, Robinson, Breeland, Amerson?) also have Baker who was a UDFA.. So not even half of the starters on this team were drafted here. On the entire team we have 25 players that were drafted by the Skins. The longest tenured draft pick we have here is Kedric Golston from 2006 and he's never been more than just a role player here. Everyone else is basically here from 2009-2014. Awful drafting.

For those of you who listen to Steve Czaban's national show, long time caller Eric, was at the game yesterday. He then was going to Vegas for a couple of days. He called in this morning to say that Garcon and Roberts were on the flight from SF to Vegas with him. They aren't due back to practice in Ashburn until Wednesday, so got permission to go to Vegas.

Somehow, I don't see Belichik or Jon Gruden letting two starting receivers go off to party after the past two debaculous weeks, but I guess Jay Gruden rolls differently.

Really surprising. Considering Garcon's comments about the team's play lately.

Once again, I look at all this from a different perspective. Griffin was terrible last week. And he was pretty bad yesterday. But I think this is all a big statement on what a poor job Jay Gruden is doing.

Griffin has a unique skill set for the QB position. He also has many short comings that were present the day the Redskins drafted him. So the goal of the HC or OC is to design an offense that takes advantage of his strengths and minimizes his weaknesses while he develops. That is exactly what Shanahan and Shanahan did in 2012 with great success.

In 2014, Gruden can't come up with an offense that takes advantage of Griffin's skills. He wants a pass happy offense with lots of pocket passing. And Griffin has struggled with it mightily. Yesterday was the most run oriented game plan where it looked like they did not trust Griffin to throw the ball. It actually had the look of Gruden was being forced to play Griffin and Gruden designed such a limited offense that it makes Griffin look bad.

So my conclusion: Kyle Shanahan is a much better OC than Jay Gruden. And it is not even close.

There are other data points to show Gruden not doing well. The more Kirk Cousins played, the worse he looked. The strength of the team the past two years have been running Alfred Morris. Yet many of the game plans focus on the pass and downplay running Morris. These are not good.

I think the big key for the remaining 5 games is to determine if Jay Gruden should be a HC. Most of the data so far says no. But maybe he can improve in the next 5 games.

I agree that Gruden has done a poor job coaching this team. It's almost like he wants Griffin to fail. That start of the Jags game, RG3 looked like the 2012 version of himself. Was running the RO, throwing deep, throwing on the run, etc. Then he got hurt and it was almost like Gruden stopped trying to create an offense around him.

In 2013, RG3 was pretty accurate of the Shotgun. Not sure where he is in terms of accuracy from there this season, but I don't recall a bunch of players of the the Shotgun, especially yesterday. Why not run Shotgun and give RG3 1) more time before pressure gets to him and 2) a chance to see the field before the snap. Peyton Manning runs Shotgun more than just about any QB in the league. So it's not like it's a bad thing to utilize it. It's just that Jay seems to have no interest in suiting his offense to Griffin.

This isn't the first time Gruden hasn't run the ball as much as he should... See Bengals Playoff Troubles the past few years.

They brought in Gruden because he was supposed to be a QB whisperer and the QB play has fallen flat. RG3 has done awful and Cousins did even worse. It looks like Gruden is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I don't see him changing the game plan and/or style of play to fit what he has at QB. And the horrendous O-line play doesn't help any of his QBs but some quick passes and more rushing would help mask it some.

I think what ends up happening is we keep Gruden, let RG3 and Cousins go and roll with some Rookie/Colt next year. I think with the addition of our QBs we should let Gruden go. I didn't really like the hire from the start but I had high hopes after it was made. A new coach with a new QB would be a fresh start, but the GM has also fallen flat on many of his recent moves. Allen is probably going nowhere but there's several other options for GMs who haven't gotten a shot yet and could hardly do worse than the current regime. Omar Khan is one idea (Current cap specialist for Pittsburgh who's looking to become a GM).

I could totally see this team taking the 3rd best QB in the draft and keeping Gruden. 3 years from now we're still a 4-12 team...

Surprisingly our Defense has actually played well. It's decimated with injury and lacks talent, but somehow Haslett keeps putting out a top 10 defense. Please stop blaming him for our team's pitfalls, he's doing an amazing job with 0 talent out there in the secondary.

We don't need to take a QB early in the upcoming draft. There's way too many holes on this team that a QB isn't going to fix right away. The OL needs to be addressed big time. We only have 4 OL on this team that we've drafted. And 2 of them came in the 2014 draft.

I'd rather build up everything around the QB first before we draft another one. Otherwise, we'll be right back to where we are now. It's not like this draft has any can't miss QB prospects. Maybe Mariotta but that's it.

Believe me, I'm not a huge Cousins fan, but he has a better chance of being the future than McCoy. Agreed?
Don't agree, no. Now that weeks have passed we're tending to forget how horrible Cousins was. He was losing games single-handedly, and was getting progressively worse each week. He played like David Carr played in his later career -- shellshocked and scared. I just don't see any grounds for hope with Cousins.

So the Redskins have an owner who hired a poor GM. Either the owner or the poor GM or both hired what appears to be a bad head coach. The bad head coach is taking a great QB prospect which the team invested 3 first round picks in

and turning his game to shambles. Due to the high investment in the QB, the offensive line needs have not been addressed which contributes further to the problems at QB.

Oh, and your franchise gets national ridicule over the team name and logo.

Boy, I feel sorry for you guys. I would say hang in there, but it does not look like Daniel Snyder is going anywhere.

Good grief.

Do we think he'd let Amerson go to Vegas?

I don't think we should spend that first pick on a QB, but I could totally see that happening with our GM and Coach. I'd be much happier going O-Line and Secondary for the first four rounds, then DEF and QB to finish off the rest of the draft.

I agree with much of what you've said, and especially the bolded. Look how Cousins regressed this year. Look how Griffin regressed this year. The Skins get terrible play from all 3 units at various times during the year, and the only thing besides small quibbles that we hear from Gruden is "Robert Robert Robert". I really do not think Gruden has a picture yet of how to run a team.

Maybe he'll get that picture in the next 5 games. There were parts of it there yesterday. There were 2 good offensive drives the last 2 weeks that featured different playcalling than the rest of the game, "non-Gruden" type playcalling. But he keeps bailing on it and going back to straight dropback passing as though the team does it well. Hint -- it doesn't. Not under Cousins and not under Griffin. If Gruden can't coach a QB well enough to play and if he can't call plays that best suit what the offensive players do, he hasn't earned HC responsibilities in my opinion.

And his dealing with the press has been atrocious. On the other hand........

“We turned the ball over and some teams will hang their head when that happens, but that’s not what this team’s about,” Harbaugh said. “This team’s about each other, about the team, the team, the team. We’re not into criticizing each other, we’re not into badmouthing each other, talking about each other. We’re into lifting each other up. Guys just kept playing and fighting and that’s what good teams do.”

Surprisingly our Defense has actually played well. It's decimated with injury and lacks talent, but somehow Haslett keeps putting out a top 10 defense. Please stop blaming him for our team's pitfalls, he's doing an amazing job with 0 talent out there in the secondary.
I think Haslett has been plenty bad, many times over the last 5 years. He was horrible in the Tampa Bay game. But in the Dallas and SF games the defense was top-notch, and the defensive players and Haslett deserve credit for that.

London Fletcher about Jay Gruden

" I have a problem with Jay Gruden as well. You can’t be such an emotional person and go out — I’ve never seen a head coach embarrass a player like that in public. I’m fine with you doing that in a team meeting room, behind closed doors, because you will gain more respect from your locker room and from your team by doing it in that setting than getting up there and grandstanding, and embarrassing him like he did on national television.”
“It’s a message to Daniel Snyder, it’s a message to the locker room,” Fletcher said of Gruden’s public criticisms of Griffin. “[The message is], ‘I don’t like this guy. Eventually, I’m going to bench him.’ I think he’s setting the stage for maybe one more bad game to bench him. But he continues to say stuff. ‘The clock is ticking.’ You’re talking too much, Jay Gruden, in the public.”

Redskins cornerback David Amerson was suspended for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers for violating an unspecified team rule. Multiple teammates later said Amerson, a second-year pro and a starter, missed a team meeting. Washington coach Jay Gruden declined to elaborate on why Amerson was inactive for Sunday’s game other than to say it was a coaches’ decision and “an in-house deal.”

“We were disappointed, obviously,” Gruden said. “David did not play. That was my decision not to play David. He’s going to play for us for a very long time in the future, but unfortunately it wasn’t today.”

I don't think the Redskins can stay nearly as close to the Colts as they did to the 49ers. Their only hope is to have 40 minutes time of possession.

is there a metric that defines where a defense, or opposing offense, starts on avg. when they come onto the field for each defensive possession?
