The last team to sweep the White Sox?

The Angels in September of 2005, AT Chicago.

We all know how it went the next time they met the Los Angeles Angels of Orange County of Anaheim of California.

You can't win them all - and the Yanks were certainly the better team this past weekend.
I still pissed off about that weak game 2 call. :hot:
how about the balls and strikes from game 1?

Come on Bullpen. Jon and the O have done the job. Or might we get a complete game out of Garland to start theTigs series? That would be sweet.

You can have calls like that every game. The end of game 2 was inexcusable. Would have been 2-0 Angels and no title for the Sox.Sox did step up big tonight though.

The White Sox absolutely have to continue to pin the ears back on the Tigers. It's going to be the quickest way to pick up games on 'em.

Hopefully the sweep by the Yankees and home series loss to the BoSox was a wake up call for the defending champs to pull their heads out of their collective arses.

Giving up on Pollitte is a start. Love what he did last year but just is not helping the team in any way this season. The offense is playing great. The bench is incredible and other than CP the pen is fine, but the Starting pitching have it on cruise control while everyone is out to get the champs.

I think this time through the rotation they will folow Garland's lead and throw their A game. Otherwise KW and Oz will get McCarthy into the rotation if they have to.

Huge to win one of the next 2 games but a sweep would KILL.

Go Sox.

This could make Sunday's game interesting.
Ozzie takes aim at Rangers' Padilla Vicente Padilla, you have been warned.

That was the message from White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen on Thursday as his team prepared to host the Texas Rangers for three games this weekend.

"If Padilla hits somebody, believe me, we're going to do something about it. That's a guarantee,'' Guillen said. "I don't know what's going to happen, but something's going to happen. Make sure they know it, too.''

Padilla is the Rangers' scheduled starter for Sunday's series finale, and as far as Guillen is concerned, he's also the lightning rod for the controversy that surrounded Guillen after a June 14 showdown in Texas.

Padilla hit Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski twice in that game, and when Sox rookie reliever Sean Tracey did not return the favor with Hank Blalock at the plate, Guillen exploded in the dugout -- not only on Tracey, but on the entire team. Guillen said it was the third time a pitcher hadn't protected his teammates this season, and he'd had enough.

Tracey was sent back to the minors after the game to make room for the acquisition of reliever David Riske, and Guillen was criticized by local and national media for his handling of the rookie. Days later, the heat turned up on him even more when he called Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti a derogatory term for homosexual.

"Are we going to do something about it? No, it's over,'' Guillen said about initiating trouble this weekend. "I already got suspended, [attended a sensitivity] class and they killed me because Padilla hit somebody.

"I was the one paying the price, and I had nothing to do with that. Everybody was all over me because I was screaming in the dugout. Then I called one guy one thing because he was all over me, and I had to go to class. There were so many things that happened to me.

"Believe me, if Padilla does something about it, we're going to do something about it. You can count on that. I don't care if we're suspended for 100 years.''

While Padilla has remained silent on why he threw at Pierzynski, several Rangers players have said Pierzynski and other Sox players were talking trash to Padilla from the dugout during a June 3 start by the right-hander at U.S. Cellular Field.

The Sox didn't like how long Padilla waited between pitches or his body language.

"What's new?'' Pierzynski replied when asked why he was the one singled out.

Pierzynski doesn't expect any problems this weekend.

"But then again, you couldn't have expected it to happen the first time, so you never know,'' he said. "He has the option to throw where he wants to because the ball is in his hands. We'll see.''

Guillen said if Padilla decides to act on that option, there will be consequences with his teammates.

"If something happens, I'm going to protect one of my players, hit [a Texas hitter] and point to [Padilla] when I hit him and then make them fight with their pitcher,'' Guillen said. "You hit people when they do something wrong, I agree with that. But you hit people because you don't like them, I don't think that's a good [way] to play the game.

"I have to protect my players. I'm not here for Major League Baseball. I'm here for my players, and I'm going to do everything I can in my power to make sure my players perform in the right way and protect them.''

I hope there is a bench clearing brawl and someone drops Ozzie like a bag of dirt.

His act is getting so old.
Act? I cannot for the life of me understand this remark. Hey the Sox walked away from any problems the 1st time around. It was Ozzie that said that Monroe slide was fine- good hard baseball. If that was me and Monroe slid that hard into me I would have kicked his ### all over the field. This is the only thing missing from the rivalry and to tell you the truth the Sox better start to grow a sack and get into people's faces so they can see who has the balls to repeat and who is ready for a skirt!

Somebody better start lighting some fires under these guys' asses, losing 2 out of 3 to Detroit is unacceptable.
Why? Detroit is the best team in baseball. With the exception of this past series, the Sox have done great vs. them. I'm more concerned that Boston and the Yankees own them. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Damaso Marte.

Because the White Sox are the better team IMO. And WTF do you miss Marte, the guy was horrible. He would do nothing to shore up the bullpen.

I miss the Pods from the first half of last year and Mark Buehrle from last year!

Thames slide, not Monroe. It was Monroe who should have elbowed AJ off the plate after the homerrun.

A nice basebrawl would be good between these two teams. remember that one that Jeff weaver started a few year ago when both teams stunk? That was great

No kidding. He sucked and Cotts and Thorton have been more than capable of handling the LH pitching roles out of the bullpen.

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Dustin Hermanson

:excited: yeah unacceptable.

Really, Detroit still hasn't beaten anyone good.
I'm not disputing this, I just think the White Sox are the better team. They should have at least taken 2 out of 3.

When both teams stunk? You mean 2000 when the White Sox went on to win the division?

Yeah Monroe should have just looked at AJ and went Pfffffttt.... This is great stuff. We have to turn up the heat by getting back to 2 games out! Ohhhh man that brawl was crazy! The Sox went on and had a great year. I still remember the shiner on the face of Keith Faulke! That was a battle. Was Garner the manager back then?

We need another Disco Demolition night
I was there! Easy win for the Tigers in that second game. Ron Leflore was in center field I believe- ducking 45 records that were coming out of the stands. Not your typical baseball crowd I will tell you! :lmao:

The second game was forfeited. Sparky refused to bring the team out. Only time I remember a forfeited MLB game. Tigers 9, White Sox 0

Yeah the field was on fire in center with broken disco recods all over the place. Steve Dahl was running out the door, cops on horses beating on hooligans, Harey Carey drunk in the boothe trying to convince the motley crew to go back to their seats and Bill Veek just cringing (unfortunately). It was surreal and it was certainly a part of WS history. Sparky was disgusted. Heck my old man almost put me through a wall when I came home and he found out that I was there!

Marte did suck, but is less sucky than what is left, save Cotts. 3.38 does look better than most of the crappy rotation Sox have this year, starters included. The entire staff gives up way too many hits and runs. I'm suprised they have the record they do. The starters must average about 5.00 or high 4's. That's not going to get it done.

I don't think the bullpen is as bad as I feared.....Bobby Jenks is outstanding closing games.

Neil Cotts has a nice ERA (around 2.90), but's it's deceiving because it seems to happen quite often where he enters a game with men in scoring position, gives up one hit allowing a run or two in, and then gets out of it - actually lowering his ERA. Overall, though, I can't be too unhappy with Neil Cotts.

Matt Thorton is really becoming a dependable pitcher, and has that nasty fastball at 97-98 MPH, very pleased with his development.

Brandon McCarthy is the wild card - he is still prone to bad outings, but I think overall, has pitched ok, though his ERA is not great. He can pitch multiple innings, or be the setup guy.

Riske/Tracey - hopefully, one will work out... Riske has been ok so far.

The White Sox do need one more right handed arm who can pitch 7th/8th innings, but overall, it's been the starting pitching not doing it's job.

You're right. Starters last year seemed to go much further in games, reducing the need for middle relief somewhat. Dustin and Politte where nice suprises. Jenks didn't even come on until the Boston series in late July/August, until then "Uh Oh" Shingo was serving up HRs. I do think ultimately the demise of this team is that the starters aren't doing the job. I had to laugh when I heard that the Sox might be willing to give up Vasquez or Garcia; who would take them? Jose has unbeliebable stuff when on, but the rest is so-so, especially for what they are paying them. Garland and Buehrle had career years, maybe they can turn it around. Garland looked pretty good the other night.

I was at the game last night. This team is FLAT. Buehrle was o.k. except for that one big inning. Brian Anderson still sucks. Cora sending AJ with 2 outs on a liner to center was a huge mistake. Where is "small ball"? The Rangers took a page from the White Sox with a single, bunt single, bunt sac, sac fly to score a run which then led to a big inning. Sox are playing like they did 2 years ago, live or die by the home run.

I was at the game last night too and also asking where the small ball was. For Ozzie to not have Uribe lay one down with 1st/2nd no outs in the 4th was inexcusable. M/J/H were talking on AM1000 with the guy they had at the park and they were saying that the entire team, sans 2 or 3 guys were working on bunting drills before the game. Then you turn around and let Uribe swing away in this situation? WTF? And get off BAs case. He's every bit the CF Rowand is and more. Plus, since 6/1 he's batting .260 which is quite an improvement over the 1st two months for the season.

There are much deeper problems on the South Side than Brian Anderson

One thing that really helped the starters last year was they always took the lead in the first inning. Thats not happening anymore.

Yes, this team is a mess, and Anderson isn't the only problem. Rowand is better, not sure how anyone could dispute that, but I'd take Thome over him anyday, so seeya Aaron. I just don't think a world championship team should have a "project" CF. I'll be amazed if he hits over .200 for the year. More than average, I care about RBI's. He's had a ton of chances to drive in runs, especially with AJ, Crede and Uribe getting on base ahead of him, and he hasn't produced. Nothing is more frustrating to see those guys get on knowing it is up to Anderson or Pods to drive them home. Having Uribe and Crede 8 and 9 seemed to work better than the human rally killer in the 9 spot. Maybe Ozzie should move Brian up in the order, cuz Crede and Uribe were deadly last year in those spots.

Well it's good to see that WS fans are worried. Championship teams always seem to go through tough times the year after but this team is in a good position to repeat. The pitching is there (although again your bullpen stinks but you made it work last year) and with Thome, Konerko, and Dye you'll get the big hits in the big games. I also think Crede is one of the most underrated players at any position in the game and I'd love to have him on my team. The other guys aren't great but a good team like this can overcome and just need a few hits and a few above average plays from guys like Uribe, Podsednik, and the like.

To me they are struggling but still in a great position. If they make the playoffs which I see as almost a given, they are the team to beat. No team has the elements to win it all like the White Sox and this comes from a guy who absolutely hates them.

Kenny Williams won't sit pat with this team.

There are rumors he's interested in former White Sox CF Mike Cameron.

I don't put all the blame on Brian Anderson though... they've played like crap the past four series (Boston, NYY, Detroit and now Texas).

Granted the pitching has been NOWHERE NEAR as good as last season, but they have been leaving WAY too many guys on base...

... they've played like crap the past four series (Boston, NYY, Detroit and now Texas).
All four of those teams are pretty good. I'm sure they'll pick it up when the Royals come to town.
We all know Detroit did  But hey, you have to beat the bad teams as well as the good teams. Seems like the White Sox can't do either right now. :X

When was the last time they played someone not so good? I think they are just playing a tough schedule and maybe not playing their best. It happens every single year. Last year they did it later and the Tribe got hot and almost passed them. But they held on. I think this is just a bump in the road but I really hope they lose the rest of their games. :bye:

Now we need Vasquez to not give up the big inning

and wait for Kenny to work his magic.

I would like to see Ozzie cut the top 3 or 4 starting pitchers back to a little over 5 innings a game for a few weeks.
