^Great point. Where is the small ball? When the smoke clears Kenny is going to have to answer th bell. Anderson and Mackoviack (sp?) are killing us in center field. The experiment should have been considered over for Anderson at the All-star break and we should have moved to try to get someone out in center. Pods is the key here because the top of the lineup will roll if he can get it going. Not to take anything from the Tigers and the Yanks but this is a Sox team that is not playing with much heart outside of a few guys. COME ON! Let's get a winning streak going now! Who's with me?-

AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
They lost the small ball(grinder) mentality when they acquired Thome.

Thome is replacing Everett in the lineup. Everett wasn't a contributor to the small ball.

Small ball doesn't work as well when the starters are giving up 5 runs by the 4 and 5 inning.

One thing about Anderson in his defense other than the fact he is hitting well over .300 for over a month is Robin Ventura started out as a young rookie and hit very poorly and became a very good hitter.

Now the team Ventura was on might not have had as much riding on as a defending champ so playing him might have been easier.

Joe Crede also hit rather poorly last season in the first half and contributed huge in the second half and championship run.

Just to reiterate, Joe Crede = STUD

Sox were looking at WAY too many first pitch strikes from Rivera last night. It was borderline ridiculous. I think he faced six batters in his inning and a third, and all but one hitter saw a first pitch strike, Jim Thome. I don't know, whatever. Great comeback though, this team is really starting to remind me of last years squad. Hopefully the pitching can return to that mindframe and they can start winning some games. HUGE game tonight... I'll be at Comiskey. :banned:  :excited:

*sigh*Again with the BA hate. You do realize that he's hit over .300 since July 6th?I know there's been no power numbers, but BA is the least of their problems right now.
How many RBI's in that time? I sure doesn't seem like many, and he gets at bats with runners on base a lot. If he's hitting so great, move him to the top of the order to get on base for the big three to drive in. I liked it better last year with Crede and Uribe in the 8-9 spots as they drove in runs. Anderson has a whopping 26 RBIs while Uribe had over 70 mostly hitting in the 9 hole. That's huge.

My point exactly. Anderson has a live bat but is having a tough go of his first season. He is seeing pitching on a regular basis that is superior to any in his career to this point. Two previous Sox star hitters also when thrust into a starting role at a young age were slow to develop but turned out nicely ie. Crede, Ventura. Anderson is showing nice mental toughness to me by doing well on defense, staying positive and contributing to the offense so far in the second half of the season. Green have a great time at the Game. Go Sox.

Hopefully we start a 8 or 9 game win streak but I'll settle for another series win this weekend. You know Detroit has to be feeling us after losing 2 in a row to the Twinks. Go Sox.

The goal has to be 2 out of 3 this weekend, and cut the lead down to 7.5 games....After that, I know the Tigers get the Rangers, and they finisht the month out with the Yankees, so I think any hope for a division, although slim, is probably dependent on cutting the lead down to 4-5 games going into September.

2 out of 3 is nice.

Sweep would make a statement.

You are right we have been through the long haul last season and had to hold off Cle. But the easist way to gain ground is beat 'em head to head. Go Sox.

Feeling the Twinks more though.

Not feeling anything except the sweet smell of a division title. It's been too long and it feels GREAT!!

LET'S GET IT ON TIGERS !!!!!!!!!!

HUGE series for both clubs - but bigger for the White Sox.

I hope the umps don't mess any of these games up.

Let the better team win. :banned: :banned:

Yawn.....

It was close until they started the game. ;)

It looks like Zoolander's arm is still not right... Rest it up champ... you'll need it come September.

Sox win... Sox win...

The Tigers huge lead is now one game less, and the Sox prove once again that Verlander is nothing special.

Complete game for Contreras rests up the bullpen too.

WOO HOO!

Better starting and relief pitching, better defense and overall team speed and not that big a dropoff in power with the addition of Pirzinski and Dye. Still skeptical but as always optimistic this time of year. Go Sox.
Dang a pretty good 17 months if I do say so myself. Go Sox.

How about now? LMK when you feel us. Go Sox.
Nothing except division championship champagne.

:lmao: You know little to nothing about baseball.

"It was huge game. I was going to go up against the best team in the league, the Detroit Tigers, and going up against their best pitcher, right now probably one of the best pitchers in the game."

Great f'in game on Thursday  The comedy of errors in the 2nd inning was amusing. Just glad they could hold on to take 2 of 3 from the Yanks.Didn't see the game yesterday (at a wedding out of town all weekend) but it looks like Contreras got the job done  VERY good to see.Detroit's hitting is par for the course, if the Sox pitching can show up, they should take the series. If anything they can narrow the gap a little bit and build a nice lead in the Wild Card Race. Still seems like a bunch to overcome, but the Tribe were down 15 games at one point last year before narrowing the gap. I still think the Sox have no chance to catch up to the Tigers, but at least they can make it interesting.A lot of pressure on Buerhle today, he HAS to show up.

Really liking the new look bullpen... MacDougal, Thorton, Jenks. It appears for now that Cotts is looking at more of a middle inning/long relief role. Both him and Politte (who's gone now) really struggled this year. It's good to see Thorton and MacDougal step into these roles with relative ease.

BTW, Boston down 7-3.

Good you got to see a great game. I also missed the friday game as Champaign doesn't get the WCIU games. I left my pickup out in the rain and I couldn't listen to it on the way to my game either. Buehrle pitched well for the most part but after the missed dp seemed to lose some steam. Good to see Ozzie going to the pen a little earlier to get wins and save some innings on the starters. The Sox are not out of the division race by any means and spent the end last season going through a pressure packed race with Cle. Let's do it again.

SWEET....

5 OF 6 from the Yanks and Tigers is quite the statement...

These middle relievers Kenny Williams has picked up are going to help out quite a bit down the stretch run (Thornton/MacDougal). The Borchard for Thornton deal has worked out nicely. How's ole Joe doing for Seattle? He's not... that's how.

Nice win for the Good Guys. Go Sox.

GB Don Cooper he sure has done a nice job with reviving pitchers careers.

Grid, Borchard is in Fla or TB I think. I personally still like the guy. Of course getting Thornton and giving Anderson the shot was infinitely wiser IMHO. Go Sox.

I know Borchard is down there... I don't really care what happened to him after the trade, although it was pretty nice to hear he beat the Cubs earlier this season.Marte and Borchard were traded for Mackowiak and Thornton (in trades with Pittsburgh and Seattle) - two nice moves. The late off season deal for Cintron has really paid dividends the past week also. 6 RBIs in the past five games with only two strikeouts.Ryan Sweeney is starting to really tear it up in the minors... I wouldn't get too comfortable in Chicago if I was Pods.... Then again, as long as he's with his wife, I'm sure he's cozy. ;)

Wish they would give McCarthy a couple spot starts.
His arm isn't stretched out enough... this was 'allegedly' one of the reasons why they didn't trade any of the starters.I don't understand why they don't let Vasquez pitch 5 innings, and then let McCarthey pitch 6 and 7 - as that's where Vasquez was having problems a couple of weeks ago.

I was kind of hoping they would stretch him out some in Vasquez games myself and then give him another chance. I think McCarthy has the makeup and stuff to be really great and realizes what he needs to do at this point. Pods better get back in form soon since Josh Fields is going to start working out in the outfield in winter ball. I guess he is a sure fire major league hitter but with Crede in his spot he is going to the OF.

More Brian Anderson love

Now hitting .225 via a .306 average since 7/1.

2HRs and 13RBIs.

Not great, but nothing like it was in April and May, and more than enough from your #9 hitter.

3 for 3 yesterday and a clutch hit Sunday to help the sweep of Tigers

:goodposting:

I already said the Sox were going to catch the Tigers before it was all said and done in the Tigers thread. I didn't have the stones to actually pick a date though
Sox are no doubt playing their best ball of the year right now, but I don't expect Detroit to falter too much. If yesterday is any indication, they went into Boston and bounced back quite well. Detroit has a tough stretch of games coming up in the next 3 weeks or so, if the White Sox can continue to win they should make it interesting, but that is the key, they NEED to sweep KC. That way, no matter what, they are picking up ground on somebody the next few days.
