Smoo

Fear the Beaver
And here I thought I was done with hockey. Bandwagon time for me.

Some minor complaints to open the season, though:

No old logos? Meh. Would have been nice but oh well.

I get pissed off about Favre and call him "Fah-vruh" just to protest his ridiculously spelled name. Don't think Dustin "Buy-Foog-Lee-En" escapes my wrath either.

If morons honk their car horns and crowd up traffic every time a hint of success is shown, I'll jump off this bandwagon in a heartbeat.

In the meantime, #### the Canucks. It's go time here in the 'Peg.

Much more excited that Smoo is apparently back.
For one year and one year only my Jets will be sharing a division with your Capitals*. Prepare for battle, sir. Ovechkin? O-RETCH-kin! Haha! BURN!*I understand they're not technically your Capitals. I understand that you are probably only vaguely aware of what the Capitals are. But throw me a bone here.

 looking forward to firing back up that old Winnipeg-Tampa Bay rivalry.

(I am looking forward to going to see them play)

I'm looking forward to the first Winnipeg-Calgary game to see the clash of two teams who both got the hell out of Atlanta.

GAME ONE - Sunday, October 9

MONTREAL (0-1-0) at WINNIPEG (0-0-0)

Montreal coming off of a rough loss will be walking into a pumped up arena. The awesomeness of the Jets players will infuse them with some kind of mutated form of adrenaline. This may be partly due to the sludge in the Red River seeping into the city's water supply. Anyway, I fully expect this to cause their X-gene to be activated and mayhem will ensue. At least one Hab will take his own life from she sheer despair of it all.

Prediction: Winnipeg 37, Montreal 2

Game on. If you are not watching then you are against us. Don't be against us. Be for us.

:lmao:

even the healthy scratches get introduced during the opening.

EDIT: and the massage therapist!

that's a really long and nice tribute to Rick Rypien.

Winipeg White Out in effect? Looks like it.

You should be fine then, as there will likely be honking of horns and crowding of traffic but the 3rd variable of success should be null.

I was about to post about how crappy they looked early, but that little takeaway and early pressure from the Scheifele line was pretty good.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Winnipeg cannot support an NHL team. Once the novelty wears off, this franchise will move again.

This is hockey only a mother could love. No wonder they left Atlanta. This team need some serious rebuilding.

To be clear: I hope the Jets do last in Winnipeg. I'd love to see more US-based teams relocate to Canada. I just don't think this will end well.

I was saying this before the move was announced, and I still agree with you.
with revenue sharing, I think a team can survive in a small but passionate market. the rising salary floor could be an issue, but where are they going to move them to?if it doesn't work there, the league would probably need to seriously look at contraction. or at least get the Leafs to let a 2nd team enter the Toronto market.

Maybe. But I used to sell event tickets here. This is not a city that pays big money for anything. The NHL would always play an exhibition game here and the cheap seats would sell out quickly and then people would reluctantly buy the more expensive ones after that. Yes, the salary cap will help, but by enough? Again, maybe. But to your second point: the league desperately needs to contract. And not because of revenue. The talent pool is so diluted now. It turns out there aren't enough people in the world capable of playing elite hockey to support a 30-team league. The spots are being filled with bush-league goons and slugs.

Contraction is unlikely to ever happen, but there are a few teams in a lot of trouble.

I think there's enough talent to support 30 NHL teams. The growth of the sport in America and Europe has helped in that regard. Not many guys goons left in the league these days.

well, didn't take long for Cammalleri to get injured. Montreal probably not going to do much without him in the lineup.
