When do we kick off the Free For All?
Well, I suppose it depends on how quickly we can close out Rounds 23 and 24.

I'm thinking I may set the Free For All for tomorrow afternoon with the hopes that everyone will plan to enter their teams following making their 25th selection and that we can get this thing locked in and submitted to start before the weekend. No reason to wait around for days to get the teams entered.

Bigger question is what we are planning to do for the divisional alignments. Suggestions?

almost surely will finish round 24 today.
That's what I figure as well.

Here's a tentative plan:

- Finish Round 24 today

- Allow for all skips to be made up tonight

- Have divisions aligned by tomorrow morning

- Conduct Free For All tomorrow at a time-zone neutral time

- Allow makeups on the FFA to be made through the evening

- Ask everyone to have team entered by close of business on Friday so that we can hit the "start button" before memorial day weekend begins.

That's fine so long as the league is set up today.

Otherwise... mayhem.

When are you setting up the league, so we can simlive?

 Did cheese pick out of turn, or did Koya get skipped?

EDIT: NM, I had Mattingly going to cheese.

If we could get 3-4 IP out of the starter and then start bringing in aces out of the bullpen, I figured I could come out a good 1/2 run ahead of the league average in ERA despite picking 4 hitters in the first 5 rounds.
Is this kind of strategy still possible these days? I noticed in the last few sims that when a pitcher went over his real-life Games Pitched -- regardless of pitch counts or innings pitched -- that their fatigue and performance fell off a cliff.

Take your Alan Benes season. Looks like he's at 23 real-life starts (didn't look it up). You've got him in a five-man rotation, so you'll start him 33-34 times. Benes might perform as expected through 25 or 26 starts, but then hit a wall at his 27th start -- and then really fall apart thereafter. And as far as I can tell, limiting pitch counts/innings per start doesn't help with that at all.

Maybe I've misinterpreted some results that I've seen from my own squads, and maybe I've misunderstood some WIS forum postings. But I've been under the impression that the pitching strategy you've outlined has been sharply curtailed by recent (post 2009) sim-engine changes.
I guess we'll find out. As far as I know it should be fine. I don't think the # of starts a guy had in RL (or games he pitched) has any impact, other than some mysterious effect on how fast he recovers. If I'm wrong it will be bad.

The bigger issue for me is that when guys throw too many games as a reliever they get tired from appearance fatigue. Usually it's between 100-110 games a season, or a pace to get there. I've got Foulke, Dibble, Williamson and maybe Zimm who are all going to be pitching >80 games easy. And I am going to need to use at least 4-5 relievers a game. It could be an epic mess.
I might be thinking about the appearance fatigue thing (aka "The Silver KIng Adjustment"). When I get some time, I will post a query to the WIS forum about exceeding a starting pitcher's real-life games pitched.
