Would have been even better if you hadn't sniped Kaká one spot before my first pick. Hopes dashed! :hophead: Sucks being one of the teams hit with the injury bug before the WC even starts, but he might be back sooner than stated. I think there's a lot of Shanahananigans at play (or maybe that's wishful thinking).

TLEF/BonzaiGK - Maarten Stekelenberg, NetherlandsGK - Samir Handanovic, SloveniaDF - Philipp Lahm, GermanyDF - Per Mertesacker, GermanyDF - Johnny Heitinga, NetherlandsDF - Joris Mathijsen, NetherlandsDF - Christian Maggio, ItalyDF - Joseph Yobo, Nigeria MF - Kaka, BrazilMF - Clint Dempsey, United StatesMF - Marek Hamsik, SlovakiaMF - Deco, PortugalMF - Sulley Muntari, GhanaMF - Mark Gonzalez, ChileST - Alberto Gilardino, ItalyST - Gonzalo Higuain, ArgentinaST - Luis Suarez, UruguayST - Emile Heskey, England
I think we've got one of the stronger squads. Our midfield is a bit suspect, but I'm thinking more and more that Higuain was a steal and that our forwards can carry us deep into the tourney.

Our defense is looking good, too. I think that Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany will all rack up shutouts, with Lahm and Maggio throwing in the occasional assist or goal. Yobo has also been known to head home a goal here and there. Plus, I think most our picks on defense will last near the final.

While we do have a group of MFs that are attack-minded and score for their countries, I'm not sure how many will advance deep into the tournament other than Kaka. Hopefully they can do their damage in the group stage.

i like our team also. Wish i would have had time and be more involved. Just picked the wrong week to start a new job.

MF: Shaun Wright-Phillips England

MF: Mario Bolatti Argentina

MF: Luisao Brazil

Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo Portugal

Striker: Nilmar Brazil

Striker: Stefan KieBling Germany

My team:

GK - Robert Green, England

GK - Claudio Bravo, Chile

DF - Sergio Ramos, Spain

DF - Gianluca Zambrotta, Italy

DF - Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Netherlands

DF - Ricardo Carvalho, Portugal

DF - Emmanuel Eboue, Ivory Coast

MF - Javier Mascherano, Argentina

MF - Piotr Trochowski, Germany

MF - Shunsuke Nakamura, Japan

MF - Sebastián Eguren, Uruguay

ST - Antonio Di Natale, Italy

ST - Carlos Vela, Mexico

ST - Humberto Suazo, Chile

Tasker - Defender

Sebowski - Goalie

Fear the Turtle - Defender

Maximus - Striker

Boubucarow - Midfielder

At this point with Tasker okay with being skipped, everybody should just draft when they get on since the positions are all different.

In retrospect, I probably should not have taken a defender with my first pick and a striker with my last, but I like my guys and it will add some fun to the tourney. In my view, its easier to predict clean sheets than to identify goalscorers, but it is true that we can say with certainty that the great majority will come from the strikers and midfielders.

The first world cup I followed was in 1982 (Spain), when I was an exchange student spending a year living in New Zealand. That was the last time the All Whites qualified for the finals, until this year. In every tournament since then, it seems the golden boot winner has been a surprise, other than I think the year Ronaldo won it. Usually I think it takes about 6-7 goals to win the boot, and there are a handful of guys with 4-5 goals each, a few more with 3, a dozen or so with 2, and then about 40 guys with one goal each.

good luck to all

go USA

Two comments on scoring.

I see that a PK miss is -1. Should the GK not get a point or two for a PK save? I realize its probably too late for a scoring change, but it seems that a PK save can be a spectacular, tournament-saving play. If the taker blazes it over the bar, I can see that being negative points for him and nothing for the GK. But if the GK makes a save on a penalty, it seems that is worth a plus point for the GK in addition to being a negative for the taker.

Also, I think this goes without saying, but I am assuming that, in the knockout rounds, all fantasy points are settled after the second OT period, and that goals scored, saves, etc. in penalty shoot-outs do not count for fantasy scoring purposes, correct?

I decided awhile ago to take a gamble with my last goalie. Now I just need to pick one. Some places think Perez might start for Mexico, Julio Cesar is hurt. Maybe his backup? Maybe one of the other 2 English goalies.................

Solid team but nothing blows me away. Your keepers are sneaky good. Your netherlands and Serbia guys are $$ imo but the rest is just average. I am not really a maxi fan either and I'm a Liverpool supporter. Im trying to be objective and all but thats just like, my opinion....man. :goodposting:

I like your squad a little better than katchups myself but you are not the favorite going into group. Just outside the favorites probably but you should do much better after we trim the fat imo. I don't expect much out of Hesky as I'm a huge crouch(and even Dafoe) guy but Cappy seems to like him so that's a plus of course. Love Suarez and Sully but they are injury concerns. I actually think Sully may not play and my last pick was the kid that switched from Germany as he is gonna replace him at MF. Argentina is kinda hit or miss imo and I think they are group and out as they are very over rated (also a little small for my liking against these Euro giants) imo and coach is nuts. Again, if you can hit on the teams you loaded up on advanceing you will have a shot imo. I will give my projected order of finish when everyones team is done and I can line them up. Don't take me too serious though as it's all in fun and I'm very excited.

Detroit fan is one of my new favorite posters and I had a blast drafting with him (and look forward to more) but this squad is a contender for DEAD LAST, lol. NO SOUP FOR YOU! Next.If Klose AND Crynaldo win golden boot you may finish mid pack, lol. You do have alot of guys I enjoy watching though so thats worth something bro. Crynaldo will probably win the golden tissue with all his diving and complaining at least. I'm high right now btw.

Now THIS is a squad I'm down with. Rooney will be high scorer as England takes it all! Mexico is going deep with Vela leading the way (my kid Hernandez is not even starting now..grr). LOVE Suazo if he's healthy. Matias, Piotr, Carvalho, Bronck, and Bravo are gonna be sneaky $$ and push you deep imo. Zambrotta is the only weak link that jumps out at me but they do need him. Good job bro!

Surprised to see these guys not picked. Almost picked them over Pedro.

M Kwadwo Asamoah Ghana

M Gerardo Torrado Mex

Post your squads here dudes and I'll give them my ops. I gotta put the kids to bed but Ill be back in like 2 hours with some Coronas and a bad attitude to do my best. I may start a thread on my WC party as it's looking pretty nuts and I'm losing my mind too. Also, next time we should have half of us knocked out after group to make it really interesting kinda like the real thing. Just my 2cents. im in and out until wife gets home. My one year old is calling so I better get her and my son to bed. We also have like 3 groups worth of stickers to do so I'ts gonna be a hell of a night. I think we got 4 world cups though Z. Ill look at your list asap and I gotta do my bracket too. J.C.

Towelie, your team looks mid pack on first glance but I gotta look later. I'll give it my all in a couple hours bro. "DOES ANYONE WANT TO HAVE THEIR **** SUCKED BY A TOWEL?"

My last pick: Paulo da Silva - D - Paraguay.

Many thanks to boub for getting my pick this morning and thanks to both boub and Tasker for running this thing. Looking forward to the next several weeks. Good luck to everyone.
