***Official Yankees vs. Tigers ALDS Thread *** (2 Viewers)

The Yankees have no heart. Thats all there is to it. All these "mercenaries" they send out there is not gonna win it. Enough of these big free agent signings. Build from within, sign some pitching, and every once in a while bring in a guy who fits the offensive philosophy.

The fewest runs the Yankees have scored in consecutives games this season is two. In 96 games, New York scored 5 or more.

Bonderman looks great, but I believe the bats come alive soon.

First post for me, and this seems as good a topic as any...

Read through this thread, and I'm wondering why people insist Jeter is such a "clutch" postseason performer. It appears to me that his postseason stats in every single offensive category are virtually identical to his regular season averages- it's actually almost eerie:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jeterde01.shtml

Isn't this a case of perception and selective memory? The guy's played in the postseason every year for ten years now. He's got almost a full season's worth of postseason ABs. You're gonna have a huge number of postseason "shining moments" if you do that. I'm sure if I went through this in more detail, I'd find plenty of horrible ABs in key postseason moments as well.

My theory is that it's because the Yanks run started the same time he burst on the scene, and also because he gets a lot of love from the media because he's a "good guy." But the numbers show that he's nothng special in the postseason.

My apologies if this should be a separate thread, but as I said, this is my first post, so I was a little gunshy.
I'm with ya there. We discussed this in another thread in mid-season, but I'm too preoccupied watching this game and the abomination that is MSU football to dig it up.

All those mercenaries on the Red Sox and White Sox seemed to do ok. I also think Kenny Rogers did alright last night.

If the Yankees lose this series (and it don't look great, but it is only 4 runs, so I'm not throwing in the towel quite yet), I hope how well the Tigers have played doesn't get lost in all of the anti-Yankee schadenfreude...They have really impressed me the past 3 games...Clutch pitching, GREAT two out hitting, taking advantage of seemingly EVERY chance they have to score...That's just excellent postseason ball right there...
They have been great so far. I think a lot of Tiger fans didn't think playing this well was possible but Leyland prepared this team for the playoffs down the stretch and kept saying, "as long as we are in the final four, I don't care." It's just been so long and several Red Wing letdowns and playing in the same city with the L#### is difficult.

People have short memories. Tigers looked just like the '00 Yanks and '05 White Sox. They're a great team.

Having a feel and appreciation for baseball is appreciated in threads like this, not digging up meaningless stats as to how many runs the Yanks notched against the Royals and D-Rays. But what you believe is good enough for me, I guess.

You have two innings then Zumaya if there is any doubt.
Honestly, I think the Yanks will hit Zumaya today if they see him. Crazy, I know.Four runs isn't that big, and we both know it. You've been a good fan though, so best of luck.

Pretty sure the Yanks played consecutive games against lots of teams. But we'll see.12 up, 12 down is terrible, but I'm not throwing in the towel here.

I think people are beginning to see it now. I even had question marks and I'm a guy who knows what is going on in double A and reads between the lines on things. Just thought they had a shot in this series because they were a huge underdog and had no pressure on them. I was disappointed about losing the division but not about the opponent. If they drew Oakland they would have been expected to win by the people in the city. Tigers had nothing to loose coming in and they have looked very lose since about the 4th inning of game 1.

ESPN the magazine had an article on this very topic this spring. They came to the same conclussion.

How many runs do you think we score today?

Sadly, this has all the makings of a 2-hit shutout.

This series is exhibit one why a 5 game series is BS.
Why? Were the Yankees unaware of the 5-game rule or something?
For one I think more playoffs = good. Baseball can play basically every day so two more days might extend the whole playoffs 3 more total days.If the home team gets split at home then they can get closed out on the road. Home field is less of an advantge since in 7 game series with a split you get at least one more game at home to get it to 2-3 at least. It benefits the team with a major stud ace as you can throw that guy two times and magnify the differences between rotations if one team has a super-ace and then a bunch of spares vs. a team with all decent pitchers.

:loco: before the wildcard, the NL and ALCS were all 5 game series..

Who cares.Blatant homerism and your fantasy stat analysis are not really in agreement with what we are seeing on the field. At some point, you need to become objective.Just like your apologies for A Rod. The guy makes you cream your pants because he puts up great fantasy numbers. At some point you just gotta acknowledge that the guy is not a winner.

Kenny Rogers and Jeremy Bonderman are not this good.

Seriously.

Yankees bats coming up horribly. A perfect game thru 5? Ugh.

Actually, I take it back. As humilating as Rogers was last night, to get no hit by the Tigers in a playoff clincher would really be a spectacular pratfall for this team.

God Bless Leyland, I hope the Tigers win it all, a mans man and a great old baseballer. He never really got respect for that Marlin series(maybe deservedly so considering the loadedness of it) but if he takes this squad the distance, you have got your best managerial job since McKeon in 03 or Kelly/Cox in 1991.

There is no way Ol' George will trade Arod to the Red Sox, but I would be estatic if we could nab him. If the Yanks lose this, the fans will be piling on Arod and I can definitely see him going somewhere else, just not the Red Sox :(

Did the Yankees forget how to hit strikes? Did they forget how to foul tough pitches off? Did they forget to take sliders? Every single guy in this lineup is choking. They're missing strikes to go down 0-2 so they have to swing at a nasty slider.

No, they changed to best of 7 back in 85.

:lmao: I love it.

A little part of me (a very little part) wants to see Bonderman pitch a perfect game and ultimately digrace this Yankee team.
