Its crazy that - of all the pitchers to do it on the Tigers staff - Fister is not the one I would have expected.

Awesome display.

Great series to get the sweep but man what a terrible effort in the last game in general. Still can't hit consistently, stupid passed ball on Avila gave them there second run and Benoit giving up the gopher ball. Avila made up for it and had a nice series though, I'll say that.

I'll take it but this team still stinks, don't let them fool you. Ramon Santiago's pinch bunt kind of demonstrates that.

Tigers finish 50-31 at home

33-11 over their last 44

3 million fans+ come to the park this year.

I like all those numbers.

Max to miss his scheduled start tommorow and it doubtful for the rest of the regular season. Strained rear deltoid.

Sanchez is now the key.
2 hours late with this news. Where did you read the bolded?
Mario and Rod.

That's not good. Hopefully he can throw a bullpen session Sunday or Monday and see how it feels.
Not good at all for a power pitcher like Max. IMO there is no such thing as shoulder fatigue in the second inning when this happpened. It had to be a strain, pull or tear. Hopefully it is minor and a missed start or two is all.

If they tie for the division the game will be Friday night in Detroit.

They have to win two of three in Minnesota this weekend, no excuse for them now even the way they've played for a good part of this season. If you can't win four games against Minnesota and KC over the last week, you don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

Assuming Max is out for the playoffs, and making the huge assumption that the Tigers don't fall on their face, give your prediction for the playoff rotation and order, TIA. I'm saying Verlander, Fister, Sanchez, Porcello even though I'd rather see a Smyly/Al Al combination for game four.

I don't. see Max being out for post season. From the sound of it they are being cautious. I think he won't pitch anymore until playoffs. I could see Max dropping to 4th position on rotation just to maximize his rest. Muscle strains are hard to gauge, but the more rest the better.

This would work for me. Rehabbed Max @ #4 still has to be better than what most teams will have as their #4.

Since Dotel's statement that the Tigers 'should be more pumped up' in playoff chase a few days ago, we have had Dirks make an outstanding take out slide into second to help score the game-winning run and Prince turning an infield hit into a double with a head first slide into second which lead to the game-winning run. Great to see the Tiger's playing like they really want it. Love to see hard-nose heads-up plays leading to wins.

I think if they were to play the Yankees it would be Smyly because of the LH lineup they have, and what he did to them this year.

Was looking for Rod Allens career stats last night and stumbled on this video. Did not know Rod was that fast.

I will be extremely happy if the Tigers just hold their 2 game lead today. It would be great if Smyly can have a good outing, but I think there is a much better chance that the Rays take down the Sox.

What do you think is the gross revenue for two home playoff games at Comerica? Enough to pay Prince for the season?

Scherzer has two years left in arbitration. I think I'd offer him a five year deal to try to keep his cost down. $14 million a year? I think he'd get something between what Matt Cain got this past year 5/$112 and what Peavy got at 3/52 if he was a free agent after this season. Anything less than $14 mill would be a deal IMO and I think at 28 years-old with two years left of arbitration, it's the right time to extend him. I think he'll get about $9 mill in arbitration.

Thoughts?

Fantasy Analysis: Scott Diamond should be left to AL-only or very deep mixed leagues at this point. Unless he pitches against Detroit, then he is a must start.

He actually leads the league in fewest BB/9 and his other numbers are average or slightly above average. Probably the best guy they run out there.

Avisail hit a ball to Cleveland tonight, three run shot with first base open. The catcher came to the mound to talk with the pitcher as well and the way Erie hits as a team (three or less runs in 67 games), not sure why they didn't just walk Garcia. He had a long drive to deep center later and also a single. In another bat he hit a chopper between SS and 3B and the SS quickly backhanded the ball and threw to first. Garcia was called out but was probably safe, I mean for a guy that big he can really move. When he hits the ball the bat sounds different, sounds like a major league bat hit it. Completely impressed with him, I think he was the best position player on either team in both these games.
Dan Dickerson was just talking about watching Garcia taking batting practice and the amazing sound that he generates with his hits. Dan said it sounded as close to Cabrera as you could get. Tigers have really not produced a whole lot of position prospects over the last 20+ years, I really do think this guy is gonna be really, really good.

That would have been a HR anywhere else Miggy, but you can't just stand there and watch the ####### ball. Cost your team a run.

So to complete the top-of-6 ...did they just run themselves out of an inning again? Or was the right move to send Miggy on Young's hit?
Always run on Ben revere, he made the throw of his entire life.
OK, fair enough. And: Great job, Smyly! 5.1 shutout innings. That's excellent work in a big game.

Phil Coke in now, division lead down to one game.
Righthanders hitting .390 against him so what does Jimmy do? Leaves him in to face Ryan Doumit when Dotel was ready.####### genius. Coke should not be pitching against a RH batter until 2013.

So Dotel comes in and throws 11 pitches to get three outs and they pull him. Don't mind Villarreal getting his chance, but give it to him after Dotel got to 20 pitches. Come on Jimmy.

I was really expecting to lose a game in the standings last night. I thought TB winning was our best chance. Fortunately, we have Verlander and Sanchez up next. Hopefully we can bump the lead back up to two going into the final series with KC.
