Is the 3 spot a good spot for Boesch. He should see better pitches there ahead of Cabrera, and putting Magglio at 6 stretches out the lineup. Does this lineup stick as long as Boesch keeps hitting?streaking
That lineup last night made the most sense of any I've seen this year.Which means you will never see it again. Is the 3 spot a good spot for Boesch. Yes they are.The Tigers are weird.
If you told me they would go 3-7 on a Mariners at home, Indians away and Yankees home stand I would have doubted it. If you told me all three of the wins would come vs the Yankees, I would have laughed at you. Mariners might be the worst team in the AL and the Indians are about to go 12-40 here pretty soon. Losing six in a row to those teams is unacceptable, beating the Yankees three of four is, in fact, weird.Yes they are.The Tigers are weird.
Yankees aren't a good team. Hell, even the White Sux (Yeah, I said it) split 4 with them in NY last week.3-4-5 are monsters, CC's a true ace and Mo's Mo.The other 20 guys on the roster are basically a bunch of crap.If you told me they would go 3-7 on a Mariners at home, Indians away and Yankees home stand I would have doubted it. Well they'll win the AL East and probably have the best record in the AL. I would like them to fail but it seems people are underestimating them, probably playing right into their hands. Tigers still stink though, let's be clear about that.Yankees aren't a good team. Maybe, but they're still superior to the Mariners. After watching the Tigers seem to get their #### together only to get throttled by Seattle and piss away three winnable games to Cleveland, seemed like they simply didn't have the pieces to put it all together on a consistent basis. Now, who knows? Porcello has given up 6 runs in his last four outings, Max has been dominant and I have no worries about Verlander. Bullpen looks pretty good. Line-up looks better with Sizemore and Martinez, and with Bosch at 3 and Magglio at 6. The defense will remain horrid but I feel good enough about the pitching to say that the season will be decided on how well this reassembled line-up can produce. Sure looks better than Cleveland's, but then again so does Chicago's and Minnesota's.Yankees aren't a good team. I think Cleveland is legit, but if Sizemore has developed into the #2 hitter we need I think we can come back. We have too many holes to deal with the gaping one at 2B and the 2 hole but if he can fill that need we may have a shot.I'm not as optimistic about the pen as you but it's not horrible, I still think our defense keeps us from winning the division though. Just real frustrating to not have an identity, 3 years ago we were the offensive juggernaut with no defense and it didn't work...then we over corrected and focused on defense but then sacrificed too much offense...now we over corrected again and the defense is awful again. The difference between this one and 2008 is this one may have the pitching to overcome it, we'll see. Porcello and Max have to keep this up and someone on the farm needs to come up and help sometime this summer - Oliver? Furbush? I hope we don't rush Turner, but we've done it before and if the others aren't doing it we may back ourselves into a corner. It'll be frustratingly entertaining regardless, just cover your eyes when any balls are hit to Jay-Honey and Raburn. Oof.Maybe, but they're still superior to the Mariners. Only five pitchers have ever thrown more than two:RyanKoufaxCy YoungBob FellerLarry Corcoran24 have done it twice, so yeah it's pretty select company.so with Justins second, how many people have at least 2? gotta be select company. Nolan ryan has what 7?
His numbers look great, but it seems like he accumulates a lot of them the same way that Peralta does - cheaply, usually in situations that don't have a baring on the outcome of the game. I'd like to have him, but I don't want to trade the future for him either.Wonder what the Mets are gonna want for Wright? Gonna have to trade one of the young arms for sure, maybe two. I'd probably do it and maybe they'll take Inge back if we pay some of the salary.
No kidding. Leyland drops Maggs down for the Wed. game vs. the Yankees and he proceeds to hit his first HR of the season. I thought they should just leave him down in the lineup but, of course, Leyland moves him back up to 3.Maggs is essentially an auto out these days. Why would you continue to slot him 3rd? If he breaks out, let him breakout in the seven hole and move up VMART and Miggy.

I would have BB 3rd, Avila 6th, Maggs 7th, JP 8th, Inge 9th.No kidding. Leyland drops Maggs down for the Wed. game vs. the Yankees and he proceeds to hit his first HR of the season. Al Al is awesome.

Loving watching the kid pitch. Slider is so ridiculous I'm always nervous he'll struggle to control it, but somehow he manages. Only way he can give up run is if he walks somebody in, that pitch is unhittable, pure filthy.Al Al is awesome.![]()
With Benoit struggling and Perry unable to finish one inning with an 8-run lead, let's not be in a hurry to thin out the bullpen anymore than it already is. Thanks.I'm sorry, it must be my prejudice against fat people but I can't stand watching Valverde pitch. Get hurt already and give Alburquerque the 9th.
They should but won't. The pen scares me with Benoit struggling and Perry a mess. Schlereth is also unproven although he has been doing well lately. Would be nice to have another proven arm like Coke's in the pen - we could upgrade the pen and not lose anything by pulling him from the rotation. We could also send Brad Thomas packing too by making the move. Al Al may end up saving the pen for us if he keeps it up. Love that guy! What a pleasant surprise. It was nice to see all the run support from the lineup considering Cabrera didn't do much the entire series. Other bats are finally stepping up. The roller coaster ride continues...'bicycle_seat_sniffer said:Time to put Phil Coke back in the pen and bring up a kid to start?
And Kaline could have added that Al has "good arm strenth."'Leroy Hoard said:I would have loved to hear George Kell say the name "Al Alburquerque".
No question about it. Exactly what I said after that at-bat. Enough is enough. Hitting your worst hitter who can't run in the three hole every night is indefensible.Ok that's it, Maggs needs to be benched UFN. This is getting ridiculous and Leyland hitting him 3rd is obnoxious.
Batting him third is the most egregious part of this. I get that they were facing a lefty, but I still can't believe that Boesch was batting 7th (career 0.416 wOBA against lefties) and Avila was ninth (after Inge!).Stop playing the matchups and bat them Boesch/Cabrera/Martinez/Avila until someone starts to slow it down. Even Peralta should be batting ahead of Maggs right now. Though I still wouldn't go so far as to relegate him to the ninth hole rightfully owned by Inge.'Apple Juice said:No question about it. You know it is bad when the last guy you want at the plate with the bases loaded and only 1 out is your #3 hitter. Even Inge striking out at least gives another guy a shot.'Doctor Detroit said:Ok that's it, Maggs needs to be benched UFN. This is getting ridiculous and Leyland hitting him 3rd is obnoxious.
Too high for Avila. He's got to worry about catching the game first and foremost. I would bat him ahead of Maggs though.Jackson/Sizemore/Boesch/Miggy/Martinez/Peralta/Raburn/Avila/Inge would be my choice. If Maggs plays and Raburn is out, then stick him behind Avila and just ahead of Inge.Batting him third is the most egregious part of this. I'm not buying that his place in the lineup will have any influence on how he calls the game. Guys like Pudge, Mauer and Victor have been batting top five their whole careers and do just fine behind the plate.Too high for Avila. He's got to worry about catching the game first and foremost. From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20110511/SPORTS0104/105110398/Tigers’-Zumaya-gets-some-promising-medical-news#ixzz1M6WXwOZKMinneapolis —Once again, Joel Zumaya got promising news Tuesday. And once again, the news didn't square with a 26-year-old pitcher's chronic pain in his right elbow.
Zumaya was examined by James Andrews, the celebrated orthopedic surgeon, during a session in Pensacola, Fla.
"Nothing to indicate any problem," said Kevin Rand, the Tigers' head athletic trainer. "Basically, they cleaned out the joint. He'll be re-evaluated in six weeks."
Rand said Andrews removed a screw that was placed in the Tigers reliever's elbow last July after Zumaya fractured the tip of his elbow during a game in June. A new "headless screw" was inserted to guard against any irritation that might have stemmed from the first placement.
Rand said it was "too early" to determine if Zumaya is officially finished for the season. The Tigers had said last month that any chance Zumaya might return in 2011 was remote, at best.
In other Tigers medical updates, infielder Carlos Guillen is being further evaluated as he attempts a recovery from last year's microfracture surgery on his right knee. Guillen's rehabilitation continues and there is no timeline for any immediate return to manager Jim Leyland's lineup.
Also, the Tigers said that last year's second-round draft pick, Drew Smyly, a left-hander from the University of Arkansas, is recovering from flexor tendinitis and is on a steady recovery schedule.
Smyly was shut down at the end of April because of pain in his left elbow. An examination determined there was no structural damage. Once his rehabilitation stint ends, Smyly is expected to rejoin the Tigers' Single A team at Lakeland, Fla.
found Victor a theme songVictor is red-hot right now. Three straight 3 for 4 games, with 2 HRs and 4 2Bs over those three.
I would love for a healthy Maggs to start knocking the ball around, but putting him on the DL is the best thing for this team right now. And that is one young outfield now. Jackson, Raburn, Boesch, Wells and Dirks. Bunch of kids.Magglio on 15 day DL for right ankle weakness and Dirks was called up.
Love it. DH Raburn when Victor catches. Anything to keep him away from the outfield. Looking forward to seeing what Dirks can do. Hopefully Leland will play Bosch every day and bat him third indefinitely. Club looks good right now. Cleveland can't keep winning by one every game forever can they?I would love for a healthy Maggs to start knocking the ball around, but putting him on the DL is the best thing for this team right now.
