Verlander is the best pitcher in baseball right now. His stuff is out of this world this year.
His numbers looked pretty good until this game. He looked high in zone and slow.I bet he was juiced because it was a "homecoming" for him. nice sotry on him on Yahoo today
Who are you talking about???
Collmenter who is from Homer, MI.
Ok, it didn't really make sense in the flow of the conversation here.

Carlos Guillen off to Lakeland for rehab. A lot of people think he's already played his last game as a Tiger but I guess they are gonna give it a go to see what happens. Wouldn't think you'd see him if he returns until August, we'll see.

sorry quoted the wrong post.

Raburn needs to be sent to the minors. Batting below .200 with little power, high strikeouts, and no defense should be enough good reasons to send him down.

Why can't Ramon Santiago be given a shot at the 2Bman position on a full time basis?
Be careful not to ask Leyland that question - he will get all upset and start yelling at you like he's been doing with the media. At this point, I don't see the point of keeping Raburn and Inge in the lineup - steady guys like Santiago and Kelly, while not flashy or all-stars by any stretch, are fine. (in fact, who started the rally in the 8th yesterday - yep, Don Kelly with his pinch hit single - I don't remember Raburn or Inge even getting a single hit yesterday). It's simple. We just need guys to get on base. Not every guy has to be a HR threat. Cabrera, Martinez, Peralta, Avila, Boesch can knock runners in. Hitting .200 half way through the season with an occasional homer just doesn't cut it. Also Inge has lost all his power (of course, actually getting the bat on the ball would help that) and Raburn is horrible in every phase of the game. I can't remember a Tiger I hated more than him. He must have nude pics of Leyland to blackmail him with...I am not a Bill Simonson fan by any means but he wrote a good article on mlive.com today bashing Leyland. It was a fun read.

I think Sparky got screwed yesterday. He deserved a statue and I was surprised they didn't unveil one yesterday. I mean Willie Horton has a statue and his number retired but Sparky doesn't. That doesn't make sense. I get that Willie was from Detroit and all but if you are going to make the boneheaded decision of giving him those honors Sparky deserves the same treatment. Does any Tiger who has had their number retired not have statue at Comerica Park? I couldn't think of one. Just a strange situation. I don't know what happened between the Tigers and Sparky but it took them 15 years to retire his number and they only did so after he died. Ilitch looked like he would've rather been at the proctologist's office yesterday than at the ceremony.

They really need Scherzer to excel to win this division, tonight was a nice step in the right direction.

Peralta is nails, it hasn't been said enough in this thread. I like the pick-up last year, loving it right now.

DD deserves a lot of credit for Peralta. Short stop was a gaping hole and not only did he plug it with an adequate fielder but an all-star on the cheap. Guy seems to love hitting at Comerica. He's smacking the ball all over the place.

It's funny that last year Everett and Laird were making everybody scratch their eyes out, now we have all-stars at both positions. Inge and Raburn have stepped in to take their place quite nicely.

Now seems like the time to create some space between the rest of the division. The pitching match-ups look pretty good the rest of the home-stand. Cleveland is scuffling on the road. It'd be nice to see a five game run where every starting pitcher gives a good performance. Three down two to go.

A bit surprised to see the Tigers ranked up with the elite teams by CBS sports, having them at #5 in the power rankings the last couple of weeks. A lot of people were writing off the Tigers earlier in the year. A lot of players are stepping up huge with the notable exception of a couple who have fallen off the map.

2nd best record in baseball since May 3rd. Still not getting too entrenched into thinking they are a playoff team or "this is the year" mentality, but they are playing pretty well. They have the best record vs division opponents too, and if that continues well....

and if the Rick Porcello collapse continues well.......... the Sox will still probably finish 3-4 games back:(

Porcello is starting to come back to earth. They should think about selling high if they can get a decent package for him at the trade deadline. At best, he's a #3 starter long-term so he's certainly expendable.

I did not get to see the game, was Porcello throwing underhand?
I was sitting behind the Met dugout and it looked like he was throwing BP. Obviously the sinker was not working at all, then they were teeing off on his fastball. The Mets were laughing it up and having a good time. People were heading for the exits in the 5th.

Selling high? His value has to be at or near its lowest point.

He still has other starts to go this season. It hasn't bottomed out yet just watch.

They better go to Furbush or Oliver at this point. Coke was decent for those first two months but he's broken right now, send him back to the pen where he can better help the team.

It looks like the Tigers are going to hold the Mets to two Touchdowns again tonight, too bad they could only manage a field goal last night. Barring a last minute Hail Mary Touchdown, it looks like the Tigers are going to lose again.

Yeah well sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due. Mets have played exceptionally well of late and they are killing every pitcher the Tigers throw out there. You win some, you lose some.

:lmao:

Some horrible ABs by A-Jax. Tigers are hurting at the leadoff spot.
Yes, he needs to be dropped down, even the #2 spot would be better with him being able to bunt along a real leadoff hitter (or the bottom of the order). Someone who can also play an infield spot decently and bump Raburn or Inge out of a job would be ideal.

Not really sure why they signed Inge for two years. Inge would have trouble staying in the league at anything other than a utility man, and Raburn just can`t play. Kelly is not that good but he provides more of a spark than Inge.

Reyes fits all of these criteria since we could bat him lead off, play him at SS and move Peralta to 3B. Plus, Comerica Park is the perfect place for him -- lots of space. He's probably too expensive though since I wouldn't give up Turner for him. Oliver I would though. As I said earlier, maybe it's wishful thinking on my part that he still has decent value but I'd rather move Porcello than one of the AAA prospects in a trade at this point.

Furbush to rotation and Coke to the pen. That's a start. Now if they could just sit Raburn and Inge more frequently and go with Santiago and Kelly...

Furbush/Coke move was great. Could have been done a couple starts ago, but now there is no doubt that Coke is not a starter.

AlAl to the DL with elbow inflammation. That is not ####### good.
Hopefully they are just being overly cautious. What is a shame is they pitched him so heavily in a game which was out of reach.
Maybe. But how often is elbow inflammation - or anything to do with the elbow for a pitcher - a good thing? I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
I thought he said two weeks ago that he was feeling pain in his elbow and was trying to pitch through it. Hopefully the time on the DL will allow him to rest the elbow and he'll be good to go after All-Star break.

How long is this guy gonna last though? Sliders are the most difficult pitch on elbows and his slider is just wicked violent. I think we are gonna see this guy on the DL a lot.

I have a friend in my golf league who pitched at MSU, we were watching Al a couple of weeks and he said the very same thing. "I hope his elbow holds up with the way he snaps that slider puts heavy stress on the joint"

Closers and non-save situations don't mix.
Would have worked better had Santiago been at second, he would have had that ball. Jesus Christ, when are they gonna give up on Raburn? Leyland has been threatening to do it for weeks now and they traded away their best replacement option. Maybe trade for Polanco?

Well at least he got some hits tonight to make up for his anemic defense. Oh wait, that's right he didn't get any and struck out twice to boot. Looks like they plan on using him at 2B until Guillen comes back after the all-star break. I swear Leyland refuses to make changes in his lineup sometimes just to make the point that the media and/or fans aren't going to tell him what to do. This is one of those times. Stubborn *******.
