***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

This is embarrassing, they need to fire Lloyd right ####### now. I know I've been saying this for four years now, but today is the day to cut ties and send him to be some Connie Mack League manager.
:goodposting:
Of course, this is from someone that owns FISTER!2, Prince, Boesch, Perallta, Young, Avila between my two leagues.
Yeah I have Fister as well and he pitched well enough to get a win today, but they can't ####### hit. Not even mad about this, it's just tremendously disappointing. This Tigers team hasn't been shut out in 101 games or whatever which is the second longest streak in franchise history, but scoring 2,2,2,3,1,2,1 is only a little better than not scoring at all. Prince Fielder also needs to step up when Miggy is in a slump, and he's been no where to be found.Pressure is gonna be on these guys when they get back home, they better start hitting the ball or the ubernegative Detroit sports media is gonna murder them. Detroit sportstalk radio fan has season tickets, this attitude is gonna spread like wildfire. I understand it's a long season and I'm not in panic mode or anything and I'm not calling for Leyland's head, but someone has to be accountable for this. Making a change now makes sense, let Lloyd go. Do it Double D!

It is still May and we are only a couple games out even after playing pretty crappy for the last month. Hitting will come around.

BTW, it sucks that Fister got the loss, it should have been Coke's. I disagree with the scoring system.

Is there a team stat for runners left on base? Would like to see where the Tigers rank.

When you have guys like Granderson and now Inge (granted it's just a handful of games) flourishing with their new teams, it really has to make one question WTF Lloyd is doing. Then you have guys like Boesch, Santiago, Raburn, Young who are all hitting well below what was expected of them this year. If you want to throw Fielder's name into the mix fine. Point is that there are so many blackholes in this lineup right now. It's not just a player or two slumping. There are significant parts of the lineup not producing. At some point, that collective failure has to fall on the hitting coach IMO. He needs to get the players hitting to their potential. Now, we know Leyland is stubborn and won't fire Lloyd. If that doesn't happen and the team somehow misses the playoffs (I am not panicking but just stating a possible scenario) Leyland is going to be gone anyway which may be the silver lining out of all this (I'd want them to make a move for Francona while he is still out there). Dombrowski would have to be at risk as well I'd think since he constructed the team and wouldn't fire Lloyd. Plus, can someone #######' learn how to bunt on this team. The inning where Boesch got on, Santiago got hit, and then Worth failed to bunt (albeit he did advance the runners because Barton had a brain fart) was terrible to watch. Then his pitiful attempt to bunt was followed up with a K with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, and a fly out. So, we got no one in with guys on 2nd and 3rd and less than two outs. Story of our season. The pedestrian nature of this team also doesn't help. They can hit a double with a man on first and the guy won't score. That gives us situations where a guy is batting with RISP because the runner on first couldn't get home and we end up stranding the runners. With Jackson and Dirks getting on, I would think this team would be able to score a ton, but it just isn't happening.

Our 2B position is pathetic right now. Granted Inge is doing well in Oakland but I firmly believe he wouldn't be doing so in Detroit. Fan base had turned on him, he was pressing and competing for playing time. He doesn't have any of that in Oakland (or Lloyd as his hitting coach any longer). He landed in a good spot. I was shocked to see him take that first walk off Fister - he laid off a lot of good pitches that he would have otherwise swung at in Detroit - that mindset doesn't exist among most of the Detroit hitters (which leads me back to Lloyd) and Leyland has even publicly acknowledged they are swinging at too many bad pitches and expanding the strike zone.

So much for them taking advantage of the soft part of their schedule. Looks like we'll need another gem from Verlander today.

End rant.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: One weird coincidence I thought about, the A's have now taken three straight Tigers rejects and plugged them in at 3B (Hannahan, Sizemore, Inge).

But seriously... how can you expect to get anything going against Jarrod Parker (WHO????)
He's one of the best young arms in the game.Tigers have the bases juiced and the two outs came on terrific defensive plays by Sogard and Barton. Can we get a big hit please?

ETA: Tremendous at bat by AJAX to take the walk off fouling several away. Kid is really coming into his own and is one of the few guys I have confidence in.

Now it is up to Cabrera, Fielder and Young to do their job, assuming Dirks doesn't hit into a double play.

I think I just saw Valverde's first clean 9th inning ... ever.
He did have a couple last year. Somebody was claiming otherwise, that he rarely put runners in scoring position. I want to see the game logs, I swear 80% of the time it seemed the tying run was in scoring position.

I don't know if its HD or what - but umpiring seems to have gone WAY down hill the last few years.

Terrible call there on Cabrera's (should have been) double.

Fielder is hitless in his last 22 at-bats. Big slump for the big guy
He had a two run double in his first at bat. :mellow:What a terrible call on the Cabrera hit, that might have been two runs. ####### awful with two umps looking right at it.

Two straight days they have runners on first and second and they lay down a bunt, and the runner is thrown out at 3rd. Yesterday Dirks, today Raburn.

They need to sit Raburn down, he's just terrible. Next batter, single but Danks just walks home the run anyway. ool

No idea why Smyly was pulled or why Pukenen in particular was brought in, but this is a painful team to watch right now. Terrible execution, record number of base runners stranded, can't bunt a guy over two straight days and bad coaching. Reminds me of 2008, that team did all these things except this team has a better pitching rotation.

ETA: Below, Dotel, Coke, Benoit, Valverde

There is no one else that should be pitching with when the Tigers are leading or down by two runs or less. They need to get Zach Miner up stat.

ETA 2: Luis Marte should be ready sometime soon, like days away. That will definitely help the bullpen which I do think will end up being a solid unit.

Ugh. I HATE getting the White Sox feed.Hawk is unbearable.
:goodposting: I'm in Chicago, but I can't even watch when the Tigers are playing (like last night) due to Hawk. I just follow the game on-line.Dunn :wall: 26 LOB :wall: :wall: I'll be in a skybox for today's game ...see if I can bring some good mojo.

Same thing I asked last week about Smyly..this time he only had 69 pitches and pulled again. I know he is young but he had at least one inning left in him. Right now the way the team is hitting they are looking like what they are..a .500 team and no better.

I went back and forth about whether to renew mlb.tv this year and at the last second decided not to because I wouldn't be around enough to watch the Tigers and figured they'd get enough games on mlb, espn, and fox to give me my fix. Also, I was worried of 2008 redux.

I can't say I expected exactly this, but I'm not surprised we're struggling. I wish I had a solution to get us out of this funk, but. I don't. Leyland and his boys are it, but they're not an option this year. They're here whether we like it or not unfortunately. And I don't think we can afford to use our blue chippers in the farm system, we're going to need them as this team ages so we're still a watchable team in 3-4 years.

I'm not watching or listening today. Can someone please explain this to me:

Prince Fielder : Ball, Strike looking, Ball, Foul, Fielder doubled to deep left, Cabrera out at second.
 I mean if any team could do it, it would be the Tigers but this even seems impossible for this team.

I was listening to Dan Dickerson and Dan Petry at the time and Miggy was thrown out at the plate. I'm sure Genius Lamont was sending all the way. He got Victor hurt that way last year, now maybe he can get Miggy hurt as well. What is wrong with Jim Price? Dan Petry just kind of....meh.

Yeah and then he doesn't send Santiago in the ALCS last year, Lamont and Lloyd have needed to go for four years. Had to figure today was an auto loss, they can't hit Peavy even when Peavy is terrible.

Well........Miggy finally got his Peavy demons behind him. And Prince is now 3 for 3. 6-2. Who's ready for a big comeback? :excited:

A little something to make you guys feel better....

If the White Sox hold on to win today, I promise that the Tigers will be my new favorite 3rd place team in all of baseball.
