***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (3 Viewers)

Seeing Bosch's 12 pitch at bat made me think of this for some reason:

On June 4, 1984, Bergman came to bat in the 11th inning with two men on base and two outs in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Bergman fouled off seven pitches, and on a full count hit the 13th pitch of the at bat into the upper deck at Tiger Stadium for a walk-off, three-run home run. In his book, Bless You Boys, Detroit manager, Sparky Anderson, wrote, "Tonight I saw the greatest at bat in my life...Bergie fouled off seven pitches and then picked one practically off the ground and drilled it into the upper deck in right. What a battle! Bergie was up there a full seven minutes."

Not sure why, but it jogged a memory.
That Bergman at bat was the best at bat of any Tiger in my lifetime. I'll never forget it.Great effort by Porcello tonight, wish he was just a little more consistent.
man I remember that at bat by Bergman as well, classic
Me too!So nice to look at the line-up last night - four guys hitting .310 or better, a .280+, two .260s, two .250s. That looks a lot better than when they'd have a couple of sub-.200s in there.

Why is Benoit not warming up?
You didn't actually think that Granderson would come through in the clutch, did you???No worries there, my man. Good game.
RN, are you sour on Curtis Granderson?
Think the Yanks would rather have AJax and Max instead of Grandy?
well Max was on Arizona wasnt he? not NYY. Deal looks decent for the D for sure, even with the relivers of Coke and Stink Jr being teh suck

Delmon is ticking up. I think I saw he is at .265, still not great

This was one of those rare win-win-win trades. Confused about why any Yankee fan would be unhappy with Grandy.

I think Arizona would rather have Max than Edwin Jackson, unless there was another part of the trade that Arizona got that I forget.Granderson is a good player, but he is a K machine. and I think the bandbox NYY stadium inflates his numbers. But I still like him as a player.

They got Edwin and Kennedy, then they flipped Edwin for Daniel Hudson, who was great until his elbow flamed out.Granderson adjusted his game when he moved to the Yanks' short porch and a new hitting coach finally taught him how to hit lefties. He's still an excellent defender too.

I'm biased of course but there is no one in baseball that I'd rather watch at the plate than Miggy (Trout would be #2). It becomes a training session with my son every time Miggy is up to bat. "Son, look how his head doesn't move, he clears his hips, he goes with the pitch." The guy is just so smart....not just a power hitter, he's a technician.

talk about a sweet trade, Miggy n Willis for Maybin and Adam miller? yes please!

We're spoiled. That trade could have even been better if they'd converted Willis into an outfielder.

pure hitting + superpower = :moneybag:

So true. I was talking with a coworker yesterday about what a joy it is to watch Miggy in the batter's box. A pure hitter with an excellent eye and massive power. Only guy where an 0-2 count doesn't seem even slightly discouraging. He's the total package. We're spoiled getting to watch him every day.

Not a trade I'd be picking on, the Bravos took us to the woodshed there. Stupid trade.

I agree but it is not nearly as bad as the likes of Comer made it out to be. As we look back the Braves probably only got a medium-sized win in that trade, not a monster win like naysayers wanted us to believe.

I had Sanchez on my fantasy team's bench if that is any indication of how much I trust him. He'll be good vs the Kansas Citys of the AL, but he's not in the NL anymore. The Yankees usually have nine good hitters out there, he's gonna have to get used to that.

Also Laird has been great all year and Baker is the new guy, ace.

Looking for some Tigers inside info, anyone know if/when Victor Martinez is expected back and if/when Al Alburquerque is expected back?

If Victor makes it back it will be a part time role and not until the final couple of weeks of the season. I don't think he's going to make it though.Last I read Alburqurque was close, maybe ready in a week or so, but possible they wait until Sep 1 when rosters expand to get him up here.

Albuquerque if all goes well, pretty soon. He's in Toledo now so maybe another week or two down there.VMart is not likely coming back this year. If he does, mid September.

Al Alberquerque? Whos Al Alberquerque? You waited all that time to make a dumb joke like that? ugh next caller

Does Leyland think that running Coker out there every night is gonna solve his problems? Dumb.
Unbelievable.
He hasn't used Below in what seems like months and then pulls Downs after one inning because maybe he needs him tomorrow. He is pulling Villarreal and Downs to play matchups with Coke and it has backfired pretty much every time. Benoit with some shoulder soreness, yikes. They said he's fine but guys with a history of shoulder problems who have a sore shoulder tend to make me nervous. We need really good Benoit to make the playoffs, or do anything in them IMO. I'd sit him until he is 100%.

Subtracting Inge & Raburn helps a lot.
But but Rayburn is a .320 hitter in August 2011 and September 2011 . Addition by subtraction.
fixedpeace
He has actually hit over .300 in August and September the last 4 or 5 years.

careerAug .307/.344/.508/.852

Sept .308/.367/.523/.891

Career overall: .257/.311/.431/.742

Incredible and stupid.

Omar has gone 14 for 50 (.280 BA), 8 Runs, 2 HR's, 8 RBI's, and 1 SB in 14 games as a Tiger. That is a definite upgrade over what we've had at 2B so far this year.

Jeff Baker is Mini-Alien, the son of Alien, Raul Ibanez. Look at their pics and you'll know what I mean. I think we all saw what Mini-Alien can do against lefties last night though. Useful.

Despite the loss, I loved what I saw last night. Yankees getting beat down in the previous 2 games bring in their stopper, CC. It looks like they will cruise but then the Tigers show some fight and give the Yankees all they can handle. Now we get Kuroda/Fister today (weather permitting), I like our chances to take the series.

A Sanchez is going to be up and down since he faces AL lineups like the Yankees now. He was bound to regress. But he is a fantastic #4 who can shut an opposing team out on any given day. The 5 starters match up well with any other team's pitching in the AL.

Why is A-Jax sitting today? This is a big game. To take 3-4 from the Yankees would be huge going into the weekend.

Is Jhonny hurt?
He's playing. Avila just knocked him in to tie it.....then....Dirks!
my bad, I saw Santiagoe & infante in there and though Jhonny was out. I like the looks of the lineup Jim has in there right now, how about this:Berry - LFDirks - DHMiggy - 3bPrince - 1bAjx - CFBoesch - RFJhonny - SSAvila - CInfante - 2bOr DH Boesch and play dirks in OF. Maybe Berry's lack of hitting lately means that he goes to bench and keeps Delmon in there. Nice to have options

Benoit allowed one home run in his first 35 innings.

In the last 15 innings he's allowed 12 hits, ten of them home runs. :X I mean this guy has been so good since last May and he's leaving the ball up, but I think he'll be fine.
