Lets face it. DD has brought quality players to Detroit for prospects that have never panned out. The Cabrera trade will go down as one of the greatest trades in history. Getting the best hitter and run producer in MLB for Maybin and Miller..both have developed into journeyman players. Infante and Sanchez was also a great trade. I do wonder though if the Marlins were not so stupid and poorly run would DD still be the best GM?

I really liked Garcia..but it is much easier to get a corner OF than a gifted young SS. We do not know if Garcia will pan out..but we do know that this kid can play the field with the best of the already...and he seems to have a quick compact swing that could develop with some strength.

Every GM is going to have his misses. What's important is ensuring there are more hits than misses. In that regard, Dom has succeeded.

This topic is also catching me at the right time as I couldn't be happier with this organization as I got to watch defensive wizardry on the left side of the infield this weekend. Something I haven't seen in years. A part of me hopes the suspensions aren't levied until about 7:25 tonight, just in time for Jay Hon to get called in from the on deck circle in front of his former team.

No. There are two times to evaluate a trade - when it happens and then much later. i.e. the Ubaldo trade to the Tribe was not a good trade at the time, but has turned out badly for both sides. On one hand the Tribe has benefited more, despite all they have to show for it is two years of an inconsistent #5 starter production, but on the other hand all they got for two 1st round picks was two years of an inconsistent #5 starter production.

As of right now, it is a very good trade. I think it was for all 3 teams involved actually. In 3-4 years I would be shocked if we're talking about this trade in the same breath as the Renteria deal.

 
He was always ahead of the curve, it's just the Polish name that sounds like "dumb" that has held him back.

If his name was "Max Trademaster" people would think more of him.

 
Assuming everyone stays healthy, the bullpen looks rock solid now. A couple guys you can trust to close out games and

Hitting is tougher to predict than defense. Defense ability is much more apparent. Iglesias's surperb defense alone makes this a good move and anything he brings on the offensive side will be gravey.

 
Dombrowski is a great GM.

Every year the dude improves the team with trades.

Miggy for 2 never was players, even having to take dontrell

Scherzer and Austin for Granderson & Edwin Jackson

Doug Fister for Matt Joyce?(IIRC)

Dont remember who we gave up for Anibal Sanchez and Omar INfante

these moves this year will be good, let this kid play SS for years.

 
Tigers gave up Jacob Turner and two other decent prospects for Sanchez and Infante. Turner is having a good year, and Detroit had to come up with a ton of money to sign Sanchez. It was probably a good deal for both clubs.

We traded Joyce for Edwin, I'd call this a win because we flipped Edwin for Max. We traded Furbush and spare parts for Fister, Furbush is a great loogy but a great loogy <<<< a quality starter.

Miggy needs to be put on the DL, plenty of baseball left to play.

No Infante is going to hurt more and more with no Peralta. I like Iglesias as a fill just fine, but his bat isn't Peraltas and having Santiago start every day is ####### painful.

Nice job Coke, way to get that lefty out. :thumbup:

 
Tom Hamilton had some interesting things to say concerning leyland and j hony too. They are furious. And I love it. Get his lazy, cheating ### thehell outta here

 
Sanchez continues his amazing lack of run support. As soon as he is pulled, the Tigers put up 4 and hopefully counting.

 
Probably one of the best examples of why win-lose records are a horrible stat. How does Al Al deserve the win instead of Sanchez?

You're absolutely right, though. But we'll take it! The great thing about this team is that Cleveland can't look at any of the next three games and think "well, at least we get so-and-so coming up." All of our starters are likely to pitch a strong game.

 
I genuinely like Alex Avila. Seeing his satisfied expression in the dugout made me happy.

As much as he has struggled at the plate, he has three or four game winning hits this year. I don't care if he hits for average, but if he can deliver some power with Peralta out, it would lessen the load for the rest of the lineup considerably.

I think Avila and AJAX can make up for what we lose with Peralta. AJAX is due a hot streak here and it looks like Avila has finally found his stroke after a year + of looking lost most of the time. Even when he's making an out the last two weeks or so, he's looking good doing it. I expect almost nothing from Iglesias, but I'm completely fine with it. If he can hit .240 and move runners over while playing a A SS, I'm cool.

Really do think Miggy needs to go to the DL though.

Well, and you also have to think Fielder will start driving the ball eventually. If his strikeout in the first was rock-bottom, maybe his double in the ninth will get him going.

Miggy should be on the DL. Considering how consistent the pitching has been and the Tigers' foes over the last couple weeks, this last stretch would have been a good opportunity for him to sit out 15 days and heal. But I understand the reluctancy. Even at 50% the guy produces, and can't really afford a losing streak with Cleveland staying so close behind. Given the finicky nature of the injury it's a tough situation.

 
An added plus in the Tigers line-up is the flexibility they have - Kelly, Iglesius, Perez, Dirks ...it really helps their defensive moves at the end of games, and gives them options for PH and PR situations.

Big pitching match-up tonight. Cleveland probably views this as a must-win game with their ace on the mound and after losing the first game. Hopefully JV is psyched to step it up with a strong game.

I personally have no faith at all in Verlander right now. Hopefully sitting him in my fantasy league tonight equals his best game in two months, but I doubt it. Masterson is awesome and runs will once again be at a premium.

 
Benching Verlander too, he hasn't been the same since he had that quad issue in the game before the All Star break. Oddly could be a scoring fest, unlike last night, Masterson often struggles vs. us too. Benching him as well. Probably will be a 2-1 type of game right now, but I'm way ahead in IP's in both leagues so not really worth the gamble.

 
Cleveland throwing a hot minor leaguer, Salazar, at the Tigers on Wednesday. Surgery in 2010 still keeps his innings down, so we'll get to the bullpen (after first giving him a proper Tigers welcome to the 2013 playoff race, hopefully).
