I have tickets to the game. Flying from Portland Friday night to an unknown destination. I know I will have to drive, but what is the easiest. Looks like Pittsburgh, or Philadelphia. Friends want to fly into NY and drive 5 hours.

Pittsburgh

ETA...about 2 1/2 hours.  There are advantages to going to NYC too, but it is not like you have a few days before the game if you are flying on a Friday

I went to PSU, live in NJ now, and my in-laws live in Pittsburgh, so I've been all over that area.

Definitely fly into Pittsburgh unless Harrisburg is an option.  Avoid the major east-coast airports unless cost becomes a major plus for them.  The drive from the west side of the state is a lot better.  I'm not sure where you're staying on game day...hopefully you have that figured out, but don't bank on hotels any closer than Altoona unless you have connections AND are willing to pay $$$ for at least 2 (often 3) nights mandatory.  Hotels in State College are worth their weight in gold on any game day.

Definitely can't stay in the PSU locker room, all those openings are filled.

Thanks for the advice. Flying into NY could not beat the price. Leaving from Philadelphia. I have never been past Colorado, so this trip should be a blast. Staying in the players apartments. I am to old, so pretty sure I am safe.

I'm not sure why you couldn't fly into State College? Or Montoursville? (45 min drive)

For the right $$, you can fly into most anywhere.  I think the issue is that SC airport only gets a few select flights a day, and none are likely direct from anywhere he'd be.

Go from Pittsburgh to the PA Turnpike - get off on I-99 to State College.
