Oil Pulling (1 Viewer)

Dumbest thing I've ever heard of. You put bunch of oil in your mouth, swish it around for 20 minutes, then spit it out. That's it. It's supposed to whiten teeth, freshen breath and treat about 50 diseases.

Dentist checked in on this topic yet? Several ladies I work with have done this since the New Year and they have visibly whiter teeth.

Huh... new one on me.

I'll bet if you first mix the oil with garlic and vinegar, it increases the benefits by 300%!

Coconut oil and sesame oil apparently work the best according to the Divergent actress and Gwyneth Paltrow.

I did it for about a week. I will likely start up again once a couple things settle down. I used about a half a spoon of coconut oil. I don't really see a downside.

I did it for a few weeks when I quit dipping, didn't notice any whitening of the teeth but it did leave my mouth feeling cleaner and fresh. It also helped with the craving of having something in my mouth for 20 minutes :nohomo:.

Don't swallow the oil because allegedly after it works its magic in your mouth it is full of all the toxins it "pulls" out and will make you sick if you swallow.Be sure not to spit down the sink as the coconut oil hardens and clogs the pipes. I filled up half a gallon jug with the spit and it looked like something a sorority girl would keep next to her bed. Utterly disgusting. I really need to stop typing..

Been doing it for about a month after seeing something on TV about it. How many health benefits I am not sure. What I am sure about is a few of my teeth were sensitive to cold, and now there is zero sensitivity.

If Dentist don't make money on it, Dentist don'like it.

That's my prediction.
I don't have a take on it yet... but I don't know how oils whiten teeth.

Teeth whitening has largely been taken out of my hands via the OTC products as it is... I sell far less professional whitening than i did 12 years ago... and i'm fine with that.. it was kind of a pain in the butt to do anyway.

If people get healthier... great... I'm knee deep with treating cavities and infections as it is.

The only people that are going to do this though are the type of people that:

1) already take pretty good care of their mouth most likely and probably eat fairly healthy

2) are into weird holistic stuff and are the type of people that drive me nuts anyway.

Seems like a fad that will go away as soon as it came.

The recent trend in people pounding energy drinks and vitamin waters, and G2 and basically drinking anything and everything BUT water provides more than enough acidity in people's mouths for massive decay.. and that trend won't go away and almost everyone is doing it and the marketing forces behind all the beverages are overwhelming.

I started doing this every day about a month ago and noticed this same thing. Wife said they look whiter but she was the one that told me about the oil pulling in the first place so there is probably bias there.

My version of oil pulling works every time. It involves baby oil and RedTube...and never takes anywhere close to 20 minutes.

i do this a lot except that instead of oil i use pbr and instead of swishing it around i just drink it and not be a tool it is what we call a milwaukee mouth whitening take that to the bank brohans
