Old iPhone, old Windows laptop. Can file transfer be done? (1 Viewer)

Got an iPhone 6 (these are from 2013?) with a load of pictures on it. Got a 2012-vintage Dell laptop running the ten-year-old OS Windows 7 Professional at work.

In the recent past, with other Windows-running laptops (even older ones from, say, 2008-2010), I'd just plug in the iPhone via USB port and the laptop would recognize the iPhone as another drive. Getting photos off of the iPhone onto those laptops was a cinch.

Can't seem to do it on my current laptop, though. Current laptop does not recognize the phone as a drive. What happens when I plug in the iPhone is that iTunes pops up and gives an error message.

Really, I just want current laptop to read the iPhone as a drive. No iTunes, no iCloud, no other software or devices involved. Just phone to laptop, as I had done in the past. I have Googled this and read several articles. Nothing they've suggested seems to work.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I had a way out warranty of any kind 5S, that I couldn't get worinhg with a computer. Apple online support waked me through getting up and running again, holding my hand the whole way. Pretty sure you're not going to do what you want without iTunes/Cloud. You can try to see if they'll be able help you out tho. Probably beats random Google solutions.

Sounds like the laptop has iTunes installed?  What if you removed iTunes altogether?     My iPhone 6 opens iTunes automatically on my laptop, but my work desktop does not have iTunes.  When I plug in there, it just reads it like another drive.  If not, I suspect that if you can open the phone in iTunes, there is probably a setting somewhere to tell it not to automatically do that.

Start by removing iTunes. If that doesn't work, then re-download iTunes to the latest version.

If that doesn't work, try a different cable. Try it in every USB slot just to be sure.
