Oliver Perez (1 Viewer)

Oliver had a very nice appearance tonight going 7 innings with 1 earned run, 5 hits, no walks and 6 strikeouts. He threw 82 pitches, 55 of which were strikes. This tells me one thing about him: 82 pitches in 7 innings for Oliver Perez means he's back in control of his pitches. He seems to have learned to slow down on the mound and not try so hard. I didn't watch the game but this has to be one of his top performances even with only 6 strikeouts.

If you're in dire need of SP help, Perez may get back on top this year and to add to it, he has a decent offense behind him and a MUCH better bullpen than he had in Pittsburgh. If you have an open spot on your roster, take a shot at him...especially in Keeper/Dynasty leagues.

I hope Oliver can turn it around. He was so fun to watch a few years back in Pittsburgh, but just completely lost it. Did he regain his velocity that he had previously lost?

I like him this year too. Got him in both my leagues.

Zero walks in his last outing which is a great sign. With that offense & bullpen behind him I can see him winning at least 15 games.

Kind of hard to post this a few hours after his first performance, no?

After seeing his ST numbers and this first start of the season....no, not really.

I would say 13 is more like it with a 3.80 ERA and 160-180 K's

I have a lot of SPs and probably need to go after a flier than to hang onto some pitchers that are mediocre.

Would you take a flier on Perez and drop either of these?:

C.Lee

J.Westbrook

Yeah, he's got a wild side, but it's only his 2nd start. May sound farfetched, but I actually benched him because I thought he'd get a little too cocky and start trying to throw hard again. He'll figure out his pitches sooner or later.

Ollie pulling his best Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde performance yet.

Thru 4 innings only 43 pitches with 6Ks

I was just looking for this thread. He threw 20 straight strikes at one point and looks absolutely dominant today.

The kid is a tease.

Apparently Peterson pushed back his starts because he wanted 4 full bullpen sessions with him this week. Looks like it may have worked :lmao:

He got in a little trouble in the 7th, but the bullpen got him off the hook

All in all a good day.

6.2i, 9h, 9k, 0bb, 2er

And probably a W with the Mets leading 7-2

I have my seat on Ollie's no shocks bandwagon. It's gonna be a bumpy ride, but here's hoping the good outweighs the bad, and Ollie gets his 14 Ws and 180Ks.

:fro:

What a suckjob

On the plus side, the Mighty Nats have broken their season-long scoreless first inning streak.

Finally bit the bullet and picked him up earlier this week. Started him today.

Feeling pretty good about it.

Good call.

Would you drop Kevin Millwood for Perez?

My starters are Webb, Kazmir, Suppan and Millwood. I just picked up Lincecum, and could drop Millwood for Perez.

What say you?

Kinda annoyed. Im playing against him and all these runs are unearned.
You should be happy that the Mets D got him out of the game and cost him a shot at a win. This makes two starts in a row for Perez that the Mets D commited two errors that got him the boot.

I think I would drop Millwood for Perez. I think the gamble could be worth the reward. If anything, the Mets should be able to get him some wins (if they field the damn ball) and he should be good for plenty of K's.

I'm still trying to figure out if Molina's first home run in that inning was really a home run. The commentators are saying that the ball never touched the fan, but I think it may have hit his chest/arm.

This was all Shawn Green's fault
All but 2 runs. The 1st Molina HR, which plated the 1st two runs, happened before Green flubbed a liner with 2 outs and 2 on.
The first two runs probably shouldn't have counted either (if you're not watching the game, the ball seemed to go straight through a fan's arms and hit off the top of the wall. I guess the umps thought that the ball hit the fan, and therefore they called it a homerun).

I saw the replay. It really looked like it was over the wall and hit the guy in the chest, but he didn't react like it.

What in the world were you watching? The ball went right through the guy's arms. If it hit him in the chest, you would have seen a deflection, and you definitely would have seen a reaction from the fan. HORRIBLE call. Also, people are forgetting the error by Damon Easley on that backhander (play before Green's flub)...he has to make that play, had PLENTY of time. That inning was a total fluke.

Oh, and that SF announcer/homer (younger one), who is that #####? I couldn't stand him before but now it's worse. He refused to acknowledge the HR mistake, even going so far as to just admit, "well, that's how I'm gonna choose to see it". The other announcer at least could speak truthfully, after seeing so many replays, and disagree.

What's his name again?

Perez is right on schedule...5 wins 2.90 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 48 K's in 49.2 IP and 8 starts. Another nice stat: only 16 walks. And yet another: Opposing Batting Average: .202.
