Watching the PITT / PHIL game tonight, and I swear I'm not seeing Gaither on the field in nickel packages. Spikes was in for the Nickel, and the lone LB in the Dime. Couldn't see who else was in there in the Nickel, but it wasn't Gaither.

Are they slowly making the move for Gaither, or is he just not expected to play in the Nickel & Dime? Or are my eyes failing me?

OK. Not good for those who recently targeted him, but at least I know I'm not going crazy.

it looked like they were getting gocong some snaps in the nickel(i would expect to see gaither once the season starts)i thought gaither looked pretty good and was around the ball a lot....on the parker TD I know Madden made it sound like it was gaithers fault but IMO the DL F'd up on that one letting the OLineman get to the 2nd level as easy as he did

It was the fullback that got Gaither not an OLineman. Gaither got manhandled on that run. Doesn't matter if the DL screwed up, the middle linebacker should not be that easily blocked by a full back.

I'm skeptical about him. He missed a couple of tackles and had some problems shedding blocks. I just have to see more from him in terms of producing.

I agree, but I wonder how much really had to do with superb blocking by the Steelers. Gaither has the speed and coverage abilities as adverstised, but was swallowed up by some of the bigger and better OL's on the Steeler line. Having said that, there was at least 1 or 2 open field tackles that he should have made, but didn't.

I'm just watching this now. When you're DTs are consistently single blocked by the guards and your ends are flattened regularly by TEs allowing your run blocking RT to get a running start on your MLB, you've got problems. That's not going to happen on every play and Gaither held his own at the point of attack against the guards earlier in the game. Gaither should get plenty of opportunity against the run if that front four continues to look this poor. on Gaither not playing many nickel snaps. Lots of teams doing things differently in the games than what was reportedly happening in camp.

i don't think he's nearly as athletic or gifted/talented as those 3pro bowlers either, so the size may be an issue. he's also very young still-experience may take care of it as well.
