Somebody at FBG's did a study which said that after 4 weeks, if a player wasn't performing up to expectations, it was unlikely he would make it. Four weeks was enough to determine the trend.

Players which look like they are about to fall off a cliff are Eddie Royal, Terrell Owens, McFadden, Slaton, Portis, Larry Johnson, Steve Smith (Car), Roddy White, Hines Ward...

Anybody else?

Anybody think they will still be valuable if they stink it up in game 4?

Hines Ward, really?

8-103 vs. TEN

6-57 at CHI

4-82 at CIN

Averaging 6 catches for 81 yards. No TDs but otherwise well above his average for the past five seasons.

Well, I remember when Fred Taylor rushed for humungous yards and no td's.2004: 1224 yards, 2 td's.

L. Coles is another obvious one. Chris Henry hasn't shown us much, either. L. White has not been up to much. Mendenhall might have an opportunity. Or Moore.

I would very much be interested in seeing this study. Do you have a link?I'll list Braylon.
I'll give Braylon 2 more weeks. Let Anderson get his #### straight and see. Figure this week he'll be a bit rusty. Next week though, no excuse.

Actually, it looks like there are alot of highly projected WRs that are due for some "what have you done for me lately" action in a 4th game. At least in my non-ppr leagues.

Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss are both not living up to their top-billing after 3 weeks. Alot of people pointed out that Fitz's numbers were a bit more modest when Boldin played, and we seem to be seeing this again. Moss's ranking depended a bit on Brady coming back and flamethrowing, and Moss is currently without a TD in week 3. Both guys are still getting you points but probably aren't outright winning any weeks for you like you would hope from what might have been a late first rounder. Owners have got to be pining for a dominant WR1 game soon.

Steve Smith (CAR) and Roddy White may have been the lowest scoring receiver on either side of a matchup for owners for a few weeks now. These guys are playing like WR3s right now. I don't own either but I would think that these guys might need to be downgraded if they put up crummy numbers in their 4th game.

I don't think Anderson will be anything other than terrible, and I don't trust Mangini to stick with Anderson once he starts playing like himself. It'll be back to Quinn or even to Ratliff...really, the only reason to hold onto Braylon is if you think Anderson will suddenly start playing like a good qb. Guess I just talked myself out of waiting another week. Thanks!

Calvin Johnson is another guy that's due for a big one. He's putting up modest WR 2 numbers, so it's not like he's crushing your team, but I saw him picked at the top of the 2nd round often. Like these other guys, you want to see a game where he just explodes and wins you the week if you drafted him this high.

I dont know about this 4 week rule. I gave up on DWill last year about that time traded him for Torry Holt and then he went off. I will be giving guys like Roddy White a bit longer as long as they stay involved in the offense, that is getting the targets or a fair share of the carries.

Hehe, yeah Williams made a strong argument for a 5 week rule.

That said, I have a suspicion that he's a big outlier here. Don't know how many seasons where a RB went from rags in weeks 1-4 to riches in weeks 5-16 (he was by far the most valuable rb during this stretch), with no injuries involved. Smaller scale instances, but this was truly something.

somehow I doubt Steve Smith or Roddy White produces much this weekEDIT: in all seriousness, this is a good thread. Maybe I'm biased (I own both Smith and White in 2 dynos) but IMO, the bye week is time for major changes in CAR. John Fox should be fired if he doesn't figure out that the reason Steve Smith had such a great year last year (besides his own talent) is that the run game was so dominant. Note that Smith had his lowest reception total (excluding the year he broke his leg the first game) since 2002, but the second-most yards of his whole career. DWill and Stewart going off meant teams had to respect the run and couldnt double Smith the whole damn game. If he figures this out during the bye I think Smith could bring it back going forward (because as bad as Delhomme has been, it's not like he was ever that good).White is still getting a ton of targets, Matt Ryan has missed him deep a few times...I think his poor production is a mirage

A whole season is different from a whole month, and a WR who has traditionally excelled in the red zone is different from a running back who often struggled at the goal line. Ward has averaged a TD every other regular season game since 2004. The Steelers just need to score more TDs, period. They only have five through three games. I suspect Hines will end up with about 6-7 before the season is over.
