...the words of our President

“The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown.

"Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant."

I have no idea why you would want to mock the Army's accomplishments during the Revolutionary war.  Not a single British airplane was able to take flight.   Damn impressive if you ask me!

What makes this really weird is you can pretty much tell when Trump is on the prompter.  Very different delivery and cadence.  He definitely appears to be reading this speech.  Did whoever wrote it put that in, did Trump completely misread it or did he kind of lose the thread?

Ha, I've been trying to figure this out.

In June of 1775, The Continental Congress created a unified army out of the revolutionary forces in camped around Boston and New York, and named after the Great George Washington commander in chief. The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of YorktownOur army man the air, It Rand, the ramparts, it took over the airports it did everything it had to do. And at Fort McHenry, under the rockets red glare, it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came there, Star Spangled Banner waved defiant. Shiloh, Antietam and Gettysburg. ...
There's some other weirdness in there and the "it did everything it had to do" gives away that he kind of lost the speech or had absolutely no idea what the words he was reading meant. Continental Congress? Cornwho? Yorkwhat? Ramekins? I think he had no idea what the heck he was looking at and just blew through it.

Really this speech was likely very quickly plugged in, I would not be surprised if he had had some other text prepared.

I know I am inspired to stand against the marauding hordes of today, armed to the teeth as they are with the clothes on their backs.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt here and say that the speech he read was thrown in there last minute.  I read the thing this morning and IMO the speech writers should be fired.  You could get a ninth grader to write better speeches.  I'm sure poor speech writing has been an issue in the past with other Presidents.  The difference here is those Presidents had a decent knowledge of US History and knew what they were speaking about in general terms.  This guy clearly doesn't have that knowledge.  I'd be surprised if he could point out most of these event locations on a US map much less give a 100,000 foot level summary of this country's history.  So, when it's bad speech writing, it's magnified by the guy's lack of knowledge where with past Presidents it would most likely be covered up.

“I don’t know what the term is in Austrian”
Oh snap another one!  What  a moron.

You guys are right, Obama said just as many idiotic things as Trump does.

lmfao.  Ok, I can't even type that with a straight face.  But you guys keep on keeping on if it helps you feel better about supporting someone as clearly intelligence challenged as Trump.

I haven't had a chance to read it but your summary doesn't surprise me given the flubs.

And Fox news pointed out every gaffe with glee being so fair and balanced I bet they do the same here.

boof sidez!!!!
HT what I recall was that the claim wasn’t that Obama didn’t know how many states there were (tho some did), or that he didn’t know what a corpsman was, or that he didn’t know Austrian wasn’t a language, the claim was that he couldn’t speak publicly without a TelePrompTer. And here we are.
The popular conspiracy was that Obama was subconsciously thinking of the 57 member entities of the Organization of Islamic Conference.

“But Donald Trump is a really good and smart President though. Why do you hate America and the troops and the police and why do you love immigrants and killing babies and why are you taking Christ out of Christmas though?”

Pretty sure planes weren't invented yet.

That's a pretty generous transcription.

What I hear is "Our Army manned the airffmm, it rand the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do. And at Fort McKendry, under the rocket's red glare, it had nothing but victory."

He also said the Army was "named after George Washington" but I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be, "named George Washington 'Commander In Chief'."

Also, "Cornwallis of Yorktown".

Trump told reporters outside the White House that the teleprompter went “kaput” at times during his speech.

“And I guess the rain knocked out the teleprompter,” he said. “I knew the speech very well. So I was able to do without a teleprompter, but the teleprompter did go out and it was actually hard to look at anyway because [there] was rain all over it.”

Trump said the prompter went out right in the middle of the sentence in question.

“And that's not a good feeling when you're standing in front of millions and millions of people on television,” he said.

lmfao.  The only reason the speech was even a quarter intelligible was that he was reading it.  When he wings it he truly sounds like a 5th grader.

Well, I gotta give Fox News credit for acknowledging the gaffe. But their story leaves one unanswered question: if he knows the speech very well, then what word was he supposed to say instead of "airports"?

So he ad-libbed with "the Army took out the airports"? I don't think this explanation helps.

He is pretty bad at reading off the prompter has tons of mistakes. Honestly not that big of a deal other than kind of weird he can't read.

His usual move is to repeat the wrong word then say the correct one

Will the usual suspects be chiming in deriding Trump from reading from a teleprompter like they did Obama?  I personally think the argument is dumb all around, but will they be consistent?

Unfortunately it is no longer possible to answer with a single emoji of the rolling on the floor kind. Those same people have robbed us of that
