Onterrio Smith Released Today (1 Viewer)

Thought you guys would be interested to know that Onterrio Smith has been released from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL) today.

I live in Winnipeg, and am a huge Blue Bomber fan; we had Charles Roberts as the number 1 RB, and a new guy named Henri Childs came in and impressed.

Looks like Onterrio's pro football career could be over after being cut from the CFL...

He was injured most of training camp, and in the one exhibition game he played in, only got like 7 yards on 2 carries.

I just noticed january 06 was your last post before this one. Geesh, did you use the patch or just quit cold turkey? I quit posting for like an hour or to sleep, sometimes to work, that's about it.

Wow... LOL cut from the CFL? What the heck?!
They also have to set their rosters after the first week. If I recall, all CFL teams must do this. After not seeing much of Onterrio Smith yet, I think they want to be safe than sorry and get a guy they know more about. I wouldn't say he's done just yet...

Quick HighjackHey,

I'm a new Blue Bomber fan. My good friend's son just caught on with them a few weeks ago. He's a punter, Brian Claybourn. He was in the Chargers camp last year for a couple weeks and earlier this summer he punted at the Cowboys mini-camp. He had a successful career at Western Kentucky. He's a great kid. All of us down here are rooting for him. We hope he sticks with Winnepeg. Have you seen any of their practices, preseason games, etc. If so how's he look?

BTW, I was about to email him and see if he'd talked to The Whiz Kid yet. Guess that's a mute point now.

Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Hard to beleive, this guy was a nice talent, he will be lucky to get a look in AFL now.
way to have no idea what you're talking about.Running backs don't even exist in the AFL.

The CFL teams had until 11:59pm Saturday night to cut their rosters down to 46 players. The rosters aren't set after the first week, its been after the 2 exhibition games have been played. As for Onterrio Smith, he's been injured most of training camp, couldn't play in the first exhibition game, and only got 2 carries in the 2nd exhibition game. Bottomline, he just didn't get much of a chance to show what he could do and another RB who came in healthy showed what he could do and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers went with what they did see instead of potential.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but your good friends son Brian Claybourn was cut today by the Bluebombers, along with the other punter they brought in to compete with long time veteran player Troy Westwood.

But hey, he might get an other chance elsewhere. Westwood is one of the best punter in the league.

Actually, Westwood was one of the worst kickers in the league last year (and worse at punting - we had Jon Ryan last year but he's trying out with teh Packers now). The only reason Westwood keeps his job is because he's a non-import (Canadian). CFL teams must have a certain amount of Canadians on their roster, and teams almost never waste the kicker spot on an import. So even if a US kicker comes in and plays better than Westwood in training camp, he won't get the job (unless the Canadian is absolutely terrible, and the import is amazing). Import kickers are brought into training camp to provide competition, and thats it. I'm surprised these import kickers keep showing up, because their just being used...

how long until a new poster named "onterriosmith32" starts a thread about how The Whizzinator is a much better choice than Edge for Arizona?

Don't be surprised if the Whiz Kid gets on with another team. I don't think he is done in the CFL yet. The Bombers just couldn't take a chance on him after showing up overweight, getting injured and playing terrible in that exhibition game. That and another RB Fred Childs had a great camp and played extremely well in exhibition.

Henri Childs :P

This should be a good boost in confidence for Charlie, so hopefully he can make a move for his 2,000 yard season.

But I was definately wanting a Ontario vs Ricky home opener. That would have been a good match up.

Go Blue!!

:goodposting: :lmao: I can just see OS and QC sitting together @ a bar somewhere in the great white north, enjoying a Labatts :banned: , waiting for the dealer to show up, while busily typing away on their blackberrys - replying to recent FBG postings.

I think Joe's "##### slap" in MT's Chargers Mini Camp thread finally calmed QC down.

Just an update from my previous hijack. Looks like my buddy's son has a pretty decent shot.

Claybourn will get kicks

By KIRK PENTON, STAFF REPORTER

Brian Claybourn is the new punter for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers -- for this

week, at least.

Even though Claybourn was "released" on Saturday when the team made its

final cuts, head coach Doug Berry said he planned all along to have the

24-year-old Indiana native handle the punting duties.

Claybourn was asked to stick around on the practice roster, and it's a good

thing he did, because he will make his CFL debut on Friday night in Montreal

against the Alouettes.

WASN'T HAPPY

Berry wasn't happy with Troy Westwood's punting during last Thursday's

pre-season finale against the Alouettes, and his feelings didn't vary during

the last two days of practice.

"There's been no change," said Berry. "It's to the point where you almost

want to say, 'Take your ball and go home.' He's had bad practice two days in

a row punting the ball."

Westwood, who desperately wanted to do both the punting and placekicking

this season, will return to his regular duties of handling field goals and

kickoffs.

"Kicking the ball, he's been very effective," said Berry.

Westwood has been a full-time punter only once during his 15-year CFL

career, and that was in 2003, when he averaged 41.6 yards.
