Direct Headline: San Francisco will pay criminals $300 a month NOT to shoot other people in desperate plan to tackle surging gun crime

The effort will select 10 fellows to be rewarded with $300 each month to keep their noses clean and keep free from gun violence incidents....Davis tried to explain that the program isn’t “as cut and dry” as simply giving cash for criminals...It's not as transactional as, 'Here's a few dollars so that you don't do something bad,' but it really is about how you help us improve public safety in the neighborhood," she added....The same participants can also seek to receive an additional $200 per month by attending school or helping to be change agents and mediate potentially violent situations before they erupt...."

Direct Headline: High Society Money Got Newsom to High Places

The Times refers to Newsom’s longtime mega-donors as “San Francisco society’s ‘first families’ — whose names grace museum galleries, charity ball invitations and hospital wards.” You know them as high society bigwigs like the Getty family, the Fisher family who founded The Gap, and the Traina family that produced President Trump’s current ambassador to Austria and socialite Dede Wilsey...The Gettys were Newsom’s original cash source, since before he went into politics. Oil tycoon J. Paul Getty’s son Gordon was an investor in Newsom’s wine store PlumpJack, and Gavin was a close friend of the family as his father Bill managed the family’s trust....Most of these families knew Newsom since his high school days in Larkspur. ....“Bill Newsom was so close with the family that he helped deliver the ransom money after the 1973 kidnapping of J. Paul Getty’s grandson, John Paul Getty III.”...The Gettys have given Newsom more than a half a million dollars in his various campaigns for the Board of Supervisors, San Francisco mayor, lieutenant governor, and now for governor.....

Scarcity breeds the conservative mindset.

If we thrust back into a nomadic hunter/gatherer society where day to day survival was uncertain, then the idea of "Progressive" behavior that leads to outright socialism would be insane.

A Limousine Liberal might order some Blue Apron or Hello Fresh, a food box system. Or casually shop at a farmer's market on the weekend between their forays into changing over into European style furniture and decor. If you want chicken, go get some organic in a package at some overpriced quaint little local place.

But in a world of scarcity, if you want chicken, you need to build the enclosures, feed them, daily maintenance them, think about predators, disease, weather and the cost to keep them alive. If you want a chicken dinner you need to weigh out the trade off to losing possible eggs and then kill it, pluck it, clean it, gut it, dress it, season it, prepare it and then cook it. A chicken thigh under this scenario is extremely costly in time, effort, sweat, blood and risk.

It's easy to give things away that others work hard for ( i.e. the Progressive mindset that has taken over Big Education and tried to indoctrinate legions of America's young into future card carrying quasi Socialists)  when you aren't in the deep chain of production and the cost to yourself and your opportunity is not brutal. It bears repeating. What did Margaret Thatcher say again? Socialism is a wonderful idea until you run out of other people's money.

This is part of the reason why poor rural Christian white America is so against some of the entitlements they see. London Breed is a complete and total idiot. My property taxes and all the other taxes and fees and licenses and all that other crap I pay feed into her salary and have paid into this state for decades upon decades upon decades. She wanted to roll out a program to pay street gangsters and thugs a cool 300-500 dollars a month NOT to go shooting each other. It's easy to do something that patently stupid when it's someone else's money. It's easy for a total political zero like Gavin Newsom to be extremely liberal. He grew up basking in the wealth and privilege of the Getty family. He came from political legacy and influence. He was protected from the day he was born by the wealthy elite. You don't think his take on pandemic lock downs would be different if he spent 15 years sitting in traffic and clipping grocery store coupons and worrying about what gasoline costs like most Californians?

Many educators, the first threat point against America's children regarding this unhinged quasi Socialism push, lean hard left politically because they exist in a bubble where much of their career progress is built on tenure and level of education. They aren't in the private sector fighting tooth and nail for basic survival. It's easy to be a liberal 50 year old teacher protected by tenure spouting something or other about social justice. What about a 50 year old in the trades and wondering how badly ageism ( a real problem for older workers in many sectors) will come to get him?

Many people are born into America into implied freedom and abundance and safety, compared to the rest of the world. There are mechanisms that keep nearly all Americans from literally starving to death. But when you are starving and fighting for your life all the time, you don't have time for pronouns. Or social justice. Or "equity" for Black Americans because of systematic racism.

Think about what "education" would look like a world of common scarcity. Let's say you, the reader right now, and I were administrators of the future and ran a closed off bunkered society where the outside world was full of chaos, carnage, death and what generally happens when organized cities/government falls. You could always use another doctor. A nurse. A dentist. An engineer. A mechanic. An electrician. A highly trained soldier/fighter. A skilled experienced farmer. How many English teachers do you need? History teachers? Psychology teachers? Art teachers? Sociology teachers? I'm not saying there's no value in any of those things in limited quantities, but something like art is a luxury when people are starving. The "education" to be taught within scarcity would be farmers teaching young people how to be future farmers. Doctors teaching young people how to be future doctors. Mechanics teaching young people how to be future mechanics. Things needed for essential survival.

The majority of the people working in hard left leaning activist Big Education and all the lower levels are luxuries of a society steeped in abundance and perceived "safety"  Yes, the people that are critical to shaping the children who represent the future of this Republic. Take that abundance away and they are expendable. Most of them lean politically left because of the reliability currently that abundance. Because many are working essentially for the city or state and are protected in ways that the average private sector employee is not.

When authoritarian regimes roll in, after this quasi socialist "utopia" takes hold and begins it's domination, what does recorded human history teach us? To keep the masses at a certain level of compliance, and to limit their education to stop them from asking the hard questions,  it's just easier to take many of the school teachers and drag them outside and execute them. Nothing is more ironic that educators who avoid the grim brutality of human history despite it being at their very finger tips.

All these hard left leaning liberal happy to be indoctrinated "educators" are trying to force feed the kind of new political order without understanding these "new utopias" will naturally dispose of them and purge them eventually. This is the basis of the saying, "The Left Eats Itself"

Of course if I bring up history, legacy politics, evolutionary biology, biological imperative, behavioral psychology and things that are plain as day by looking through the Mark I eyeball at how the world works on a daily basis, I'll eventually be called a bigot and a racist and xenophobe and a misogynist and an overall threat to society because my free speech isn't the kind of free speech that most of Big Education and the hard woke radical left is willing to tolerate. When the socialist driven bent of modern Big Education talk about this mythical future utopia, they are talking about a paradise where all the Conservatives are purged first. And, yes for many of you out there, that makes a potential moderate like you the new "right side of the aisle" And you'll be shown no mercy at some point as well. Ask yourself if you will live long enough to see your children lined up against a wall for not being pure enough for this coming New World Order.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than looking at the activist complicit Big Education cabal, where it's constant virtue signaling with the loaded constant threat of making sure you know they want to solely define what virtues should be the only ones to actually matter.

As the cost of an American college education explodes, and the ability to make a living for the average American grows harder and harder ( to one day pay for that college), and if you factor in out of control inflation and an uncertain future, how exactly is the hard radical left planning to reload Big Education with a new wave of future zealots?  Toxic incomprehensible public policy that is pushed forward that makes it impossible to rearm their future army of woke shock troopers. As I said before, the hard radical left finds a way to eat itself.

I have no quarrel with the traditional liberals here. I ask my Conservative brothers to embrace traditional liberals. People who want many of the same things but see the problem solving differently. I have no quarrel with the moderates and undecideds. My only message to you is that when the hard radical left talk about purging the "right wing", what happens when all Republicans are purified and all of you become the "new right wing"?

The hard radical left, store bought establishment Democrats and the insanity of the Biden Administration is running out of your money and my money, so they are rolling the printing presses to steal your children's money and your grand children's money too. Our western world is reshaping into one where the masses are going to facing inevitable scarcity. This will naturally create new Conservatives in the most organic way possible. We are not your enemies. Join us.

But why join republicans? I mean McConnell is married to a communist. Don’t you know the cocaine Mitch story? Zuckerberg spent what 400 million to ballot traffic socket puppet Joe into office? How many republicans in Congress spotted the fraud and stood up for honesty in elections? Our politicians sold out to the Klaus Schwaub agenda 2030 a long time ago. We have a uni party masquerading as choice. You want more operation warp speeders like Trump and Bush? They really are just controlled opposition. Voting Republican won’t change anything. I like Desantis for sure but what would happen if he got elected? If he was a problem to their global Communist agenda they would just JFK him.

All reasons why trump support is concrete.

I don’t understand this point. What would be an example of an insane progressive behavior in these societies?

Sharing kills, helping raise and educate each other's children, preventing other people from hoarding or spoiling the shared resources, accepting "two spirit" tribe members as they existed, expecting everyone to contribute to the defense of the tribe.

Bat#### liberal stuff like that, probably.

I didn’t read but just assumed it was about how alpha and studish he is and how he won’t take away our free speech rights but will just dominate us with his overpowering greatness.

If there’s one thing you can count on in politics, it’s conservatives blasting California for our liberal policies which are going to drive us bankrupt. It’s an old tune, we hear it played over and over.
Yet we continue to have the largest economy of all 50 states. It’s not close either. If California was a country we would have the 5th largest economy in the world, bigger than the UK and India. We’re not running out of money. Lol

Trump runs out of money all the time then uses bankruptcy to not pay off the debts.
Yes I have friends who think he is a creep yet tout him being a genius businessman. Stiffing workers and lawyers what you owe and 6 business bankruptcies makes it hard for me to be impressed especially when you think of the millions he was given by Daddy.

GG would love to hear your thoughts on the hard radical right.

Your analysis in the Ukraine thread is very good.

I would be happy to discuss the radical right. If you start a new top level thread discussing your viewpoint on the radical right and what aspect of it you want to discuss and your opinions on it, then Ping me with the "@" feature and let me know what questions you have or areas you'd like to discuss, as long as the question is operationally in good faith ( and I have no reason to think otherwise with you, I've had no quarrel with you on this forum, your general analysis in other threads is good), I'd be glad to join into that discussion.

Give it some thought, and if you proceed, let me know via a Ping and we can start from there.

Why did you cherry-pick the 50's?
Eisenhower ranks pretty high on the list of our nation's best and most loved Presidents. Happened to be a Republican as well. I  complained 5-10 years back with a liberal friend that tax rates were too high back then but there is a lot of middle ground I think we could raise taxes to.

I'm still not understanding what you're doing with your comparisons to Eisenhower. Why not the JFK administration?  Or Reagan?  Or GWB?  Are you saying that we've run out of money because tax rates aren't 60%?

I had seen this chart before. I once believed in trickle down stuff Reagan talked about but seeing how it failed to boost the economy in 2017(actually added to our debt) as well when as when Reagan tried his tax cuts I no longer feel that way. If you have a similar chart that shows how taxes have changed I would enjoy seeing that as well.

It’s a good place for comparison because we are told constantly by modern day conservatives that the 50s was a better time than now. Because government was less involved, the argument goes, America was able to prosper more. There was also no political correctness- society was dominated by white males. This is what Donald Trump meant when he said “Make America Great Again”- he very clearly was referring to the 1950s, before all the “liberal garbage” that the Warren Court and the hippies and the black activists, feminists, gays etc forced on this country.
Given that argument which was the central theme of Trump’s campaigns for President, it is interesting to consider what the tax rate was back then, among other things.

I think you're making things up to fit a pre-conceived notion on what you think Conservatives think and what they want.  I fully reject everything you said in this post.

Given this is out there constantly I am assuming you have many links to corroborate this?

Do you think there was nothing that the US was doing better at in 1950 than today?

A little surprised at the response by some here and how people felt during the 1950's. (Generally these were felt by many to be good times)

"The decade of prosperity"

The economy overall grew by 37% during the 1950s. At the end of the decade, the median American family had 30% more purchasing power than at the beginning. Inflation was minimal, in part because of Eisenhower's efforts to balance the federal budget. Unemployment remained low, about 4.5%."

Imagine that....taxes high and the economy grew quite well. I am a little prejudiced being a baby boomer born in the late 50's.

Many have always felt that America was generally great despite our issues but if I wanted to go back to the good times it would be the 1950s

1. Sure:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2016/03/26/politics/donald-trump-when-america-was-great/index.html

2. From what I understand root beer was better. It tasted very fresh. In the Stephen King novel 11/22/63, his main character time travels from 2012 to 1958, and marvels at how good the root beer tastes.

Not if you were gay, black, or a woman.
True...things continue to get better as far as rights are concerned but at the same time McCarthism was rejected  Sadly today we have members of Congress who haven't been rejected who are as disgusting as Sen Joe McCarthy.

ok, so he didn’t say it was better first of all.  And I didn’t see any of this that he asserted “There was also no political correctness- society was dominated by white males. This is what Donald Trump meant when he said “Make America Great Again”- he very clearly was referring to the 1950s, before all the “liberal garbage” that the Warren Court and the hippies and the black activists, feminists, gays etc forced on this country.”

Here’s actually what’s in the article

"If you look back, it really was, there was a period of time when we were developing at the turn of the century which was a pretty wild time for this country and pretty wild in terms of building that machine, that machine was really based on entrepreneurship," he told the Times.

Trump also pointed to the "late '40s and '50s," a time when, he said, "we were not pushed around, we were respected by everybody, we had just won a war, we were pretty much doing what we had to do."

Yah, that sounds exactly what you said Tim 😂

Hey, Einstein, that wasn't just the USA.  That was the entire world.

Like all of human and world history, there were GOOD times and BAD times for everyone.  Enough with the crying already.

Progressives are the only ones who can never see ANY progress.
This is my issue with today's mentality of the leftist movement in our country.  Keep your base fired up with idealism.  Blame the evil white Christians and drag up the past every opportunity u get.

It's a tactic that is pretty damn effective.  It's the same old thing.  Reduce "the other side" to morally corrupt, whether they are, or not.  That allows for an any means necessary approach because it's "for the greater good".....(Hot Fuzz)

In my time on this earth, I'm not sure I've ever actually heard a conservative say that the 1950s were a better time than today.

Literally every time somebody says this, it's always a liberal telling me that I say that.

Edit: :lmao:  I see now that somebody chimed in with exactly that sentiment half a dozen posts later, so I stand corrected I guess.

And that person appears to be one of the forum liberals.  Or, at best, an FBG independent.

The community I live in is mostly business owners, small business owners, lot of Auto industry people.  They are for the most part conservatives.  I have NEVER heard anyone ever say it was better in the 50s.  Not sure where Tim got that from.

No it wasn’t the entire world: The main reason that so many prominent black musicians and artists who could afford it moved to Western Europe during the 1940s and 1950s is that they were treated with respect and dignity. In fact, when it comes to treatment of blacks, women, and LGBTQ, Western Europe has been ahead of us.

It was a major theme of Trump’s campaign. The links I just gave you are to polls that find a majority of Republicans believe it.

We'll disagree there. Again, no doubt nostalgia is attractive for some folks. But I don't think we're  "told constantly by modern day conservatives that the 50s was a better time than now." Especially not constantly.

As far the second part you bolded- “a majority of Republicans believe it”- you’re not disagreeing with me, you’re disagreeing with the polling.

As far as it being the main theme of his campaign, Trump was specifically asked on several occasions “when was America last great?” (Referring to his MAGA slogan). His answer was always the same: the 1950s.

Join us.

The worry I have is it seems politicians feel as long as there's a printing press, we'll never run out of money. That we have an endless "supply". Can that just go indefinitely?

No. Eventually we will need to raise taxes.
(I know that some will say “eventually we will need to cut spending” but I’m come to believe that’s about as likely as a Beatles reunion.

With you.

I've no idea who he's listening to that's saying "because we are told constantly by modern day conservatives that the 50s was a better time than now."

I can't be sure of course, but my guess is that they people saying this are listening to some of the 68% of Republicans and 74% of white evangelical Protestants who said that exact thing in response to a 2016 survey.

Or maybe it was this survey where 68% of trump voters said life had gotten worse for American over the last 50 years compared to only 11% saying it had gotten better.

Or maybe it was the literal message of the campaign slogan and ubiquitous red ballcaps of the new American right telling us that America had lost its greatness and we need to go backwards to find it.

Hey, Einstein, that wasn't just the USA.  That was the entire world.

Like all of human and world history, there were GOOD times and BAD times for everyone.  Enough with the crying already.

Progressives are the only ones who can never see ANY progress.
Are we allowed to use that argument for inflation also?

Forget it. @Joe Bryant hasn’t heard it from any of his Republican friends, and I shouldn’t have used the word “constantly”. So it’s not happening.

As long as we are the petrodollar, i.e. the reserve currency of the world, then yes.  This is unlikely the case and will precipitate the fall of this country.
