i'm not a regular in the SP so i don't know if this has been covered.

do people think this is a legit site? are their rumors generally fact-based?

i've seen some wacky rumors flying outta there. so i'm gonna say no.. but they sure do get a lotta pub here. wondering why?

PFT is straighout funny and quite entertaining. As far as the rumors go, they're often right, but probably just as often wrong.I believe the head guy there (Mike Florio) has developed a pretty good network of sources, and should only get better. The humor angle helps with the sources...even they like to laugh about the players, coaches, officals, and owners.just my 2 cents,Id

The best thing about PFT.com is that they make no bones about being rumor-mongers. Until the Terry Brawshaw death rumor, pretty much they heard rumor; printed rumor. There is now a little more "editting," but overall they understand who they are in the market place. If you deal in rumors, you are going to be flat out wrong at times, because information changes or somebody hears something wrong. as long as you keep them in perspective they are fine.

that's the thing. they state that most of the stuff they print as rumors. then posters here post it as pft reports such and such without the rumor disclaimer. they had the moss to oakland trade LONG before anyone else.

I like PFT, but you need to read it carefully and know what you are reading.

A lot of articles start: Rumors are flying that...... Here, they are just reporting that people are saying this. I can accept that people are saying it, but just because some people are saying something does not mean it will come true.

Especially on draft items, they'll follow up with another article that others people are saying the opposite. So PFT is essentially reporting that some league insiders are saying exactly opposite things. It's not hard to believe.

PFT will frequently pull in other facts or research or opinions and then give an opinion if a rumor is possible or not really possible.

Also, Florio is big on calculating cap consequences and getting into details of the CBA and how it affects player moves. He loves to discuss agents and who is represting who, which I don't care for. But I just skip those articles.

PFT rules...the FBG's who complain about the site annoy me

Why turn every thread that originates from a PFT rumor into a discussion about PFT instead of the football issue being discussed? We all know exactly what the site is so why hijack every PFT rumor originated football thread with nonsense?

Who was it on this board that called them PFFFFFT recently? I thought that was pretty funny. :lmao:

As I see it, we all know that PFT is a mixture of fact, rumor, and good-natured nonsense. They are a part of the fabric of football talk and I'm glad they are around. As long as we know not to take what they offer as gospel, they often can be an early source of something that has happened or is about to happen.

With PFT I keep in mind that while the saying is sometimes true that where there's smoke there's fire, sometimes it's true instead that where there's smoke there's mirrors. :X

They're a rumor site much more than they're a news site. I've enjoyed pft for several years. They print what they hear, and usually a general indication of their source or sources. Some of the rumors end up happening and some don't. That's the main beef some people have with them ---- some of the rumors end up not happening. Well, if they wait until it happens they're just another news reporting site.

The main flaw with pft is the site layout. They often follow up rumors they've posted, but it's hard to track unless they've included inline links to their previous reports. If they organized it so that you could see each rumor from start to finish it would be much cleaner and easier to understand.

Did they report Joe Theisman out on MNF first?

I believe they did, yes. The news that came later acted as if they uncovered it, but I believe PFT was first.

I love PFT. One of my bookmarked regular links I visit every day. They get more things right than wrong, and, they're a great central depot for the earliest reports on most items.

Even if someone from the Houston Chronicle reports on an item first, I don't visit every nationwide newspaper, so I usually don't know about something that happened until PFT gets an update on it.

Thanks.From article:

In response to a profootballtalk.com report that ESPN will drop Joe Theismann from its Monday Night Football, ESPN's Mike Soltys said Sunday that "we have nothing to announce."

But an industry official with direct knowledge of the move says Theismann, who last year worked with play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico and rookie game analyst Tony Kornheiser, won't be back on MNF.

I like PFT but it does annoy me how they pat themselves on the back when they are first to report a story ... even though they report almost all rumors they hear so are bound to report some things before others who confirm stories before printing them. Readers, other media and critics will judge how they are doing, tooting your own accolades is childish.
