Organ Donation (1 Viewer)

Are you an organ donor?

Is there an age limit on it? For example, if I'm 95 years old, would my 95 year old organs really be of much use to someone else?

Think we did this once or twice before.  Dumbfounded at the number of people here who are not donors.  More dumbfounded by how proud some of the non-donors are of this fact.  Strange business, that.  Remember MOP proudly boasting about not being a donor, but that's not surprising to me based on his narcissism.

They were looking to donate my 75 year old MILs when she passed

I'd be ok with everyone being a donor unless they opted out.

I would be but I got hepatitis (the least bad kind, I don't remember which one) 20 some years ago and the doctor told me I couldn't be a donor anymore.  I don't know if that has changed or not with medical advancement over the past 2 decades.

Not sure about that one, GM, a true narcissist thinks other people deserve the best organs. It will please me to give others the blessing of my organs after I'm dead.

Most of them. My heart belongs to Jenny M.

Really wish I didn't make that stupid promise back in 8th grade.

I would think that 'donation' is not only to people, but to science, so it would still be helpful, even at that age.

This. I have to believe that science would love to get their hands on some of mine. My will says to take everything that can be reused and help someone else, take the stuff I've ruined if any of it can be useful for study, and burn the rest.

Woke up this morning
Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died
And oh what a feeling!
When my soul
Went thru the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did ride
When I got there they did say
John, it happened this a way
You slipped upon the floor
And hit your head
And all the angels say
Just before you passed away
These were the very last words
That you said:

[Chorus:]
Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have "em" cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my stomach to Milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get "em" out of here
Venus de Milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the junkman
And give my love to Rose

[Chorus]

Give my feet to the footloose
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ### goodbye

[Chorus]

I've signed up.

My DL says "ORGAN DONOR" in big green letters, so yes I am..

though I'm considering having the wiener bronzed and repurposed as a hat rack

Organ Donor here.

Long story short....I donated half of my liver to my father 14 years ago.  It was a living donor program and fairly new procedure.  They took about 1/3 of my health liver and transplanted it into my father.  Both pieces grew back to full size.  I had a full liver again in about 4 weeks.  I think it was about 2 months for my father's to grow back to full size.  I was in the hospital for 10 days, while he was there for 2 months.

If you have opportunity to do so, and your organs are healthy, I don't see why you wouldn't donate them.  For living donors you have to meet specific health requirements.  I had to go through about 4 months of testing before I was confirmed a healthy match and surgery could be scheduled.

Yes, and I have it stated that if no one needs my colon, I want it placed in the handicap stall at work so everyone there can remember me going forward.

My father got 10 more years thanks to a liver transplant.  In the mid-70s he had a blood transfusion after bypass surgery.  Sadly, the hospital had purchased the blood from an Arkansas prison and it was infected with Hep C.  By 2000, he needed a liver.

I am and always will be an organ donor.

So, um, 2016 science has ways of determining whether or not the organs are "good" for reuse. You don't have to self-regulate this.  :loco:

I not only have the card but I have "organ donor" on my medical bracelet as well. Why the hell wouldn't you want to help someone with the best gift you can give someone, the gift of life?

Assuming there are no medical reasons as to why not.... are there any legitimate reasons to not be a donor?
I think there's some religious objections of people who think they need all their kibbles and bits to enjoy heaven.  Other than that, no, there's no legitimate reason.
