Orlovsky Bandwagon (1 Viewer)

Noting the impact Martz has had on unknown quarterbacks like Bulger and Warner (T.Green as the exception), will Orlovsky be the next successful Martz quarterback? Taking history in account, I'm very tempted to select Orlovsky over Cutler and Clemens as a keeper quarterback after Leinart and Vince have already been drafted.

I have never personally seen Orlovsky play at Connecticut so... if anyone has seen him play for Connecticut, does he has the stuff to succeed under Martz???

No, Josh McCown is.Next question.
Last I saw, McCown is in danger of getting cut and Orlovsky was the #2. As for the question, Kitna is the guy this year, so something would have to happen to him before Orlovsky would even get a shot.
I believe once Martz realizes Jon Kitna's reputation as a "good team guy" doesn't produce TDs or win football games, he'll throw Orlovsky in for a look.

Good call. Last time he started, Kitna only produced the 3rd-most TD passes in the league, and his team only won 8 games. It's amazing he didn't retire on the spot out of sheer embarassment.

With Orlovsky at the helm, the Lions would be fortunate to win four games this season.

With that said, I find it difficult to fathom Kitna leading a team to the superbowl minus a defense that typically holds opponents to under 13 points.

Bottom line, the Lions goal this season is to not suck as badly as they have the last couple years. Beyond that, maybe Orlovsky can develop into a starter, maybe not, but in his first go-round I don't see much hope for a stellar debut season. Kitna will at least give the Lions a shot at .500 for now.

Could be. Link of said speculation? I haven't been monitoring the QB situation for the Lions very closely, as I play strictly in redraft leagues, so learning who is liable to produce 2-3 years down the road for Martz is irrelevant to me.That said, I thought he looked better than Warner in ARI, and certainly has all of the tools to make the Martz system work. I don't feel like his talent has been squandered away as guys like Joey Harrington and Tim Couch.I have not seen much of Orlovsky, but until I see McCown a free agent, I'll continue to believe he's the future, simply because I haven't seen/read anything that should make me thing the contrary.add: What's with all the Kitna hate? The guy is a good quarterback.Half the starting QBs in the league don't have any pro bowls to their merit. Could swear he made the pro bowl in '03.

IMO

The big O will be given every opportunity to be the future of this franchise. Everything I have read has been positive about this kid. The coaches put him in after Kitna for a reason. Minus the poor read for int, he was bullseye on every pass. Time will tell, but I think he is definetly worth a flier in Dynasty Leagues.

That's true. Kitna is the 4th best qb in the NFC North, behind Brad Johnson, Rex Grossman, and Brian Griese. People shouldn't be so down on him.

Has the arm but I doubt the ability or desire to learn Martz's super complex offense. He shoots from the hip and runs around. He's a winner but in Martz's offense you stand still until you can complete a throw or get hammered. Not his style.

Favre has them beat in ability to finish a ccomplete season and given the top offensive line in the NFL could score on anybody. Unfortunately, the current line is not very good - but there is hope. That being said I agree, as long as they are healthy, they are all very good qbs.

is martz even going to be there past this year?
Not if they win big. If not then he will likely be around two or more years. Not sure what job openings there will be since there were 30$ of the teams got new coaches this year. If the Texans do great on offense, Sherman could be selected before Martz.

For some, thanks for the insight but... no one has commented whether they have seen Orlovsky play during his Connecticut years. Here is Orlovsky's collegiate achievements:

Set career school records for most pass completions (916), pass attempts (1,567), yards passing (10,706), touchdown passes (84), total plays (1,710) and total yards (10,421).

Named the Most Valuable Player of the 2004 Motor City Bowl (played on the Lions’ home turf at Ford Field).

Threw for 3,354 yards with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions (134.7 passer efficiency rating) as a senior.

As a junior in 2003, he received the Connecticut Player of the Year award from the Walter Camp Foundation after starting all 12 games and completing 279-of-475 passes for 3,485 yards with 33 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Independent Offensive MVP by ESPN.com; All-ECAC, All-Independent and team MVP.

Was ranked seventh in the nation in passing, 13th in total offense, and 12th in points responsible.

Big East is not exactly a hotbed for top-notch talents like ACC, SEC, Pac-10, and Big Ten.

The big question remains:

Is Orlovsky's achievements a matter of playing in average conference and playing catch-up for an average Connecticut team or is he that good?
