Orton's finger (1 Viewer)

so he had a cast on his finger and he declined to talk about it in post game press conference. What does everyone think. McDaniels would list someone as day to day if they were DEAD as long as nobody knew about it.

Hi doomsday,What sources are you seeing that are calling it a "cast". I see Denver Post is calling it "heavily bandaged". Do you see have a link for where they're calling it a "cast"?Thanks. And yes, I'm with you in that he could have his finger amputated and McDaniels wouldn't say anything.J

Hurry up and heal, Chris Simms.

As the Broncos' quarterback situation stood Sunday night, there was a chance Simms was in position to heal from his left ankle sprain before Kyle Orton was able to recover from his right index finger injury.

Orton had a delayed reaction to his injury, which occurred following an incomplete pass on a third-and-2 play with 5:37 remaining in the first half. NBC cameras showed his right finger bleeding. It then appears his finger was yanked into place. Teammates could hear Orton scream in pain before he was escorted to the locker room.

Afterwards, his right finger was heavily bandaged but he would not reveal specifics of his injury, per instructions of Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.

Will Orton be ready by the season opener Sept. 13 in Cincinnati?

"I'm going to work as hard as I can," Orton said. "I don't know how long I'm going to be out, but mentally I'll be ready to go."

Simms suffered an ankle sprain last week against Seattle, but he is expected to be healed enough to play in a week.

I'm rooting for Orton. He really got screwed over in Chicago with the way Rex Grossman was handed the starting job every year without having to earn it while Orton was forced to ride the pine.

Sure sounds like a compound fracture to me.
:lmao: That would mean his season is done.
Unlikely there would have been a "yanking back into place" on the sideline if it were a compound fracture.
There could be both a dislocation and a break.
Um..... they wouldn't have yanked it back into place on the sideline if there was a dislocation AND a break, ESPECIALLY a compound fracture. You could do permanent damage doing that.

From the replays they kept showing last night and Orton's reaction on the field and later on the bench, my money is on an open dislocation.

It looked to me like he was in way too much pain on the bench for it to be just a cut finger.

Who knows what it is. Maybe it was just a basic cut and Orton is a big sissy. Maybe it was a horrible break that would send the toughest of guys to their knees. It's likely somewhere between those two.

Bears homers - what's the history of Orton's toughness?

According to Woody Paige at the Denver Post, McDaniels said the finger was not broken.

Link

The former Bears and current Broncos quarterback departed the field with five minutes remaining in the first half with a bleeding finger. Orton apparently hurt the finger on some foreign object on third-and-2 when he tried to pass. The Broncos announced it was "an upper extremity injury" (per the club's new silly policy of trying to hide the extent of injuries), but McDaniels said at halftime the (fickle) finger (of fate) was not broken. Later both the coach and the quarterback refused to talk about the "there will be blood" finger, as if it never happened.

Hello, over reaction, this is the fantasy world calling. Did Orton's finger fall off?

They showed a pretty good close up of his finger and it looked straight as an arrow. No bone was poking through.

Have you ever been cut deep down to the bone? Yea, you'd scream a little.

I tend to think this is exactly what they say it is....a BAD cut...

Did you read the Denver Post blurb? It said that it appeared that the finger was then yanked into place. Why would they yank on a cut finger?

I did not, but I did see him hold it up coming off the field. Didn't look crocked at all.

It is hard to imagine that you can cut your finger to the bone by hitting it on an object that is not sharp. I will bet on the compound fracture.

Given the team he plays for, we will not likely find out anything until next season- My guess is that he misses 4 - 6 weeks and he will be listed as day to day on every injury report. They will tell us he is participating in practice but all he will do is run on the sidelines and do "individual drills". this is the way that Little Bellichek does things. Deon Branch was day to day with a knee injury for 10 weeks a few seasons ago and they also never told us that Ben Watson had knee surgery.

He didn't have any issues with injury in his rookie season, but he barely passed the ball and had a good line.Last year he had the ankle injury and it turned him into a pile of crap. That's about the only injury history you have. The positive of this is that he now has a built in excuse for looking like a piece of garbage, just like with the ankle injury.

what really sucks is that if it were any team other than New England or New England lite, we would know exactly what is going on and there would be no reason to doubt the reports. I think the league should mandate a certain amount of information regarding injuries be made available.

Apparently a Denver radio station has said it's a dislocated finger.
 OMG, no they have to be wrong it MUST be a compound fracture, his season is ruined, no wait, make it his career, McDaniels is a doofus to trade away Atlas himself, and settle with brittle brittle Kyle Orton. This is really karma getting back at McDaniels for having such a huge ego and not crawling on hands and knees to Jay Cutler aka God Himself, begging for Cutler to play nicely. :lmao:

Hi doomsday, do you have a link to who is saying his finger was in a cast? Thanks.J

It doesn't take a compound fracture to ruin Kyle Orton's season.

and I thought they were going to be a disaster before losing Marshall and Orton. This team is the definition of a trainwreck.

This is what I saw as he was coming off the field too. But then they showed a close-up frozen shot of his finger on the sideline and it looked like there was something hanging off the side of his finger, I couldn't really tell though the picture was blurry. Does anyone else remember seeing that shot? His reaction seemed to indicate that it was more than just a cut though. If I had to guess I'd say a cut and possible dislocation.

Based on the broncos season thus far I'd wager that he lost his finger.

Sorry, didn't realize amidst all the other non-injury related posts in this thread that my attempt at humor would be singled out as inappropriate. I didn't denigrate anyone, call anyone names, or anything else. Sorry if I offended for that. :lmao:

No offense. Just please let's keep it on the subject. You're a veteran poster and someone that obviously is knowledgeable. I find that when knowledgeable posters write informative posts trying to deal with the subject and find useful information, that tends to be the way the thread grows. When knowledgeable posters don't do that, it spirals down quickly. Thanks.J
