Osi Umenyiora is a funny guy (1 Viewer)

More from the man who has already pledged to jump off the George Washington Bridge if he has a poor season.

From Osi Umenyiora, who rather emphatically informed reporters today that "I'm not going to move (to left DE) because Simeon Rice is coming. I won't do it."

Among other Osi gems:

On Rice: "It's not like we're talking about Julius Peppers. Simeon Rice is an outstanding pass rusher, but that's what he is. People say he's not the best against the run, and I guess people give him that reputation for a reason."

More on Rice: "There's nowhere for him to play. He can't play left end because that's where teams run the ball. And he's not playing right end, because that's where I am. I'm a right end and I've been successful there, so I don't feel a need to move to a different position. It's ridiculous."

On the possibility of Strahan playing for another team: "It wouldn't even be right. I'd probably throw up if it happened. I tell him he can't (play for another team) all the time. But with all the money being thrown around, who knows?"

When I read his comments...I thought, you're getting paid to PLAY football, not to talk about it or pretend to be a GM. Stick to what you know! Open mouth, insert foot!

Osi still believes Strahan will be here, and obviously that's where Osi's loyalty lies. Strahan despises Rice, so Osi does too -- which can't help Jerry Reese's desire to move forward without Ol' 92. What's so strange about a younger player who has learned a lot from a possible HOFer, preferring to keep that HOFer on the team? I agree that Osi should play where told to and shouldn't go to the press, but this is a non-story.

For what it's worth...

-- Umenyiora Lands in Coughlin's Doghouse --

Wed Aug 1, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The New York Daily News reports The theme of Giants camp was supposed to be "Shut up and play," which is essentially the message HC Tom Coughlin delivered to DE Osi Umenyiora Monday night. Hours after ripping former Buccaneers DE Simeon Rice and insisting he won't move from right defensive end if Rice is signed by the Giants, Umenyiora landed in Coughlin's doghouse and got a lecture from the coach. Neither party revealed details of their discussion, although GM Jerry Reese insisted, "I don't think that's a big deal at all. Players try to protect players. I don't think Osi meant that in any malicious way towards the New York Giants. Osi's being a good little brother trying to protect DE Michael Strahan, one of his mentors." Coughlin told Umenyiora that even if the Giants do sign Rice, who has primarily played on the right side, Umenyiora would not have to switch to the left. "That was never even a fathom," Coughlin. "There was no discussion about any of that. Osi is a rising young player, he plays right end."
