Lousy Attention Whore
From Jim Trotter of the UT.

The Chargers are in the market for a left tackle to groom as a replacement for Roman Oben. If recent history is any indication, they will find that player on the opening day of the college draft. Consider:

Of the 32 left tackles listed as starters on season-ending depth charts, 16 were first-round picks, three were second-round picks and six were third-rounders. That means 25 of them were first-day draft selections. The remaining seven were comprised of one fourth-rounder, one seventh-rounder and five players who were undrafted.
This makes a lot more sense to me than a WR in the first round (but maybe not as much sense as secondary help, depending on what's available).

Real fine example of why this board gets unnecessarily annoying.

It's called a typo. Get over it.

And am I the only one that hates the vastly overused :lmao: ?

More intelligent football talk, less smart alecky nonsense please.

Despyzer,

There's a group of solid LTs who are very hard to rank though they all carry fairly high first round grades. In season's past any of these guys could be top 10 material. This year the Chargers should have a choice between them.

Alphabetically, because I cannot rank them:

Marcus McNeill - Giant of a man with unusual athleticism in Ogden's mold, but let's not get carried away.

Jonathan Scott - Vince Young had all day to throw and huge holes to run through and this was his best lineman. He gets some criticism, but it seems unfounded to me. Some thought he was very close to D'Brick in talent at the Senior Bowl. He was absolutely dominant late in the season. Very athletic.

Eric Winston - Probably the highest ranked of these guys because he had the best combine. He is fast, he's big, he has the feet of a franchise LT.

Different franchises will grade these guys differently, and you can be sure they will all be on top of the list with one team or another. One of them very well could be a Charger, and I think they are all better than Oben right now. I know he was playing decent before the injury, but these rookie tackles are solid.

I'd really like the Chargers to land Jon Scott. I don't have a link, but AJ Smith is supposedly enamored with this guy. We all know he's not afraid to reach on a guy he likes, and a blue-chip tackle might be all that stands in the way of LT2 becoming unstoppable.

I think they're in the "best available player" mode for the first round. If a T, CB, or QB (by some miracle) falls to them, they'll grab him. The chance to get the top WR in the draft doesn't happen all that often. This isn't a strong WR class but can they pass that up?

I think they hope a CB falls to them.
