Ive been off ambien fir nearly a month now.

Im taking 25 mg melatonin and an OTC aid, typically diphenhydramine syrup, at 150mg which is 3 times the dose.

Wasnt getting consustent results. Git some unisom tavs that contain 25 mg of doxylamibe succinate

Any experience with this stuff?

How does it compare to dyphenhidramine?

Im going to try a double dose 50mg since I always need more than most.

 
what's your issue? falling asleep? staying asleep? both?

have you tried all the sleep hygiene and behavior stuff first? like no caffeine after early afternoon, no screen time for an hour before bedtime, exercising (but not within 3-4 hours of bedtime), not doing anything but sleeping in your room, etc?

melatonin is supposed to only work if you have a sleep phase disorder (like if your internal clock is set later)

doxylamine knocks me right out when i take it (in Nyquil) but i am non-functional in the AM with it

Ive tried every manner of sleep hygeine method. Different things work at different times. Nothing consistently.

Its always been this way since I was a child. I could never relax until I was exhausted.

There was a 3 year period in my twenties where I had to drink myself to sleep practically every night until it got to the point I had to drink myself sick so I had to search fir a doc who would give me ambien after things like trazadone, remoran and seroquel didnt work.

Now after a couple years the ambien stopped working. Many nights I would take 2-3 times the dose combined with 3 shots of nyquil.

I stopped that because I am worried about long term health problems from taking so many drug combinations.

Just took 50mg of the unisom sleep tabs. Will report in the am if they worked or not. Box says 30 minutes so hopefully im out by midnight.

 
P.S. the nelatonin seems to have been helping a lot too. My internal clock is definitely set later. When I do get normal unauded sleep its usually duribg the day

i stopped with ambien a bit ago and try to use it really sparingly. Hated if i took it for a few days, the one day i wouldn't take it couldn't sleep for anything. I try mixing it up and taking different things so i am not on one thing straight for too long. Biggest for me is falling asleep, only having problem waking up throughout the night due to something on my mind or coming off of one of those sleep meds. I have wondered the long-term effect of these and have heard there are some studies out there not saying great stuff, so that is why i try to not use the same stuff for too long.

and i started taking something that might be melatonin too (threw the box out, it is a "drug-free" thing from cvs i dissolve in my mouth), and works much better then i thought it would

 
Have you at least offered a refund in lieu of the shirt?

25mg of melatonin alone sounds pretty unsafe IMO. If anything you should start trying to find ways to reduce your dependence on these aids, it's not going to get any easier for you with them in the long run. :shrug:

It's not unsafe, it's just unnecessary.

150mg of benadryl is also unnecessary. If 25-50 isnt working, 150 isnt going to work.

You missed the no screen time suggestion he gave you. Your case sounds like an extreme one, so rather than no screen time an hour before bed, I would prescribe no screens for 12 hours before bed.

Are you unfamilar with MCGM's work in the FFA? He asks for opinions on an issue, then argues against and ignores opinions that differ from his current course of action. Lather, rinse, repeat ad nauseam.

I build up a tolerance to each of these after a few days so it is a constant merry go round of unhealthy activity just to fall asleep. Sometimes after the nyquil I'll lay awake for hours imaging my liver rotting and not waking up. On the plus side nyquil gives me almost inception like dreams.

I would like to find a healthy way to reset my internal clock and fall asleep at 11 pm like a normal person.

MC have you tried smoking the reefer? I hear that helps some people to fall asleep.

If you live in a state where it is legal high-test Indica is pretty awesome for this.

Of course the weed has the same properties where it isn't legal too, but I'd think the guilt about breaking the law might keep you awake.
