Other good Fantasy Football podcasts? (1 Viewer)

I'm not naming names, but there are a bunch of bad ones out there. I listned to one last summer where it sounded like two old men on walkie talkies spending the first 20 minutes building a shrine to Brett Favre and going "This has nothing to do with Fantasy Football but who cares? Brett Favre is great!" They then proceeded to have really strong oponions with no analysis to back it up.

Any suggestions for good ones?

CBS Sportsline has good content if you can get past the two dudes constantly arguing with one another. FFToolbox is pretty good. I listen to that one quite often. BFD is just awful. Absolutely awful. Sorry, but I've tried to listen to them a couple of times and one dude on there I swear is constantly eating.

I said I would name names but I'm glad you did. Yeah, that was the one I was referring. It's horrific.
At first I didn't want to mention them, but I have to be honest. It is just bad. There are long pauses between the two of them talking. The dude that's eating the cheeseburger while talking really has no business even commenting. I honestly think I could put together something better.

Here is another site that has a good list. A lot depends on personal taste and presentation. Personally, I tend to prefer podcasts that DON'T review drafts or spend limited time with them. To many of them are somewhat league specific and all leagues/players value positions differently so it doesn't always translate.

Enjoy All Purpose Roto, Fantasy Football Weekly, What's your Fantasy, anything from FBG, Twitter Roundtable, and, FFToolbox has Even Silva and Chris Wesseling on sometimes which kicks it up a notch.

Draft Countdown & Rookie Draft also do a nice draft info if you play in dynasty leagues.

Downloaded Fantasy Football Weekly and listened on my run. These guys do a good job and this is show is exactly what I was hoping to find.

BTW, I agree. Reviewing drafts are bad radio because it's meaningless to anyone not in that league. Also not a big fan of "Who should I start between Player X and Player y?" Unless you have those two players in that exact scoring format, it really is deadly radio.

Thanks for the heads up.

Feel the pain.http://www.blogtalkradio.com/im-with-stupid/2011/08/13/fantasy-football-previewThese guys need to be neutered - immediately.
I stand corrected. The BFD podcast isn't the worst out there.Few things are bad as people that thin they're funny and aren't. These are the guys that go to a party and are the only ones laughing at their own jokes. Afterward they can't figure out why everybody was avoiding them.

I have to admit ...I kind of like Lou. He has a decent point of view, but a couple of lunkheads that glom on tbere. The legacy guys (that are active here) are entertaining, though no where near Cecil/Sig/Matt and "god-love" Kentucky Mike. I grew up in Ohio-tucky and have a lot of long time friends that are very similar to him. Just place him by the checker-board at the King-Kwik and just listen. May not make a lot of sense - but oh ####, it is funny.

:bs: C'mon that rube almost makes the show unlistenableand I don't mind BFD at all. Lou is ok and the 2 dynasty guys aren't polished but it show promise

My order goes:

FBG

ESPN Fantasy Focus

ESPN Fantasy Preview by position (Jon Anik/Christopher Harris)

Fantasy Football Weekly with Paul Charch and a couple others

Enough for me between those 4 to pretty much get the scoop on every player around the league I'd need to know about, and when coupled with twitter/reading, etc. I'm plenty ready for the draft.

I listened to one a couple weeks ago because David Dodds was a guest. It was pretty bad production and I really didn't agree with the main hosts opinions but it's worth hearing other sides of all debates. I think it was BFD.

Hey Guys,

Appreciate the honest opinion of those that don't like the show. And seriously, the first ever bad reviews. The numbers we put up are big and the feedback outstanding.

And yes, I have a different opinion! (Also, draft reviews are a "for now" while so many players are picking tieams. We get deep into players as the season starts.

What about it sounded bad? I know it's not high radio quality but alot of times that has to do with BTR and not us.

I'd like to improve it, so let me know. You can do it privately so we don;t highjack a thread here.

Thanks.

Lou

I heard that BFD podcast too. Dodds was really good on the podcast. He should do more for the audible. Sig, Cecil, and Matt are great, but I thought Dodds was very good too. Fantasy Focus is entertaining to listen to, but the advice is not very good most of the time. Matthew Berry is an idiot. I listen and wonder how he got branded an expert.

There are a lot of options for us with BTR. Personally, I am very happy to have those options. Lou is correct in that the audio quality with BTR is not always spot on and at times is not audible. I enjoy listening to people who have an understanding of the game and the players in it. I also like to hear from people who feel differently than I do about players. The hosts for BFD and the Big F'N Dynasty shows can really frustrate me at times but in between they offer some good insights on IDP and Offensive skill position players. Greg Kellogg does a great show, Andrew Garda's Hard Count is quality as is Taz's Twitter Fantasy Roundtable. I am not the biggest fan of FFToolbox but I often pick up some good info from the show.Of course it all comes down to how much time we have to listen to these shows any way.

I only heard the show once so I can't really speak for the production outside of that episode. In regards to my quote saying that I didn't really agree with the host (I assume that's you?), I don't think that's a problem. Like I said, I prefer to hear all aspects of an issue. Your thoughts were educated and you gave solid reasoning, I just felt you purposely were going outside of the box. I've got the last few episodes downloaded that I plan on listening to at the gym the next couple of days.

The bfd dynasty show had a guy say he was doing it from work. The other guy sounded like he was eating or something. I got about 10 minutes in and shut it down. I don't even recall the player that was discussed. I do remember the host calling himself an idiot or moron a couple of times. By the end of the ten minutes, I had no argument.

Jahvid Best. THat's who was discussed. They basically said as a "Cash out" player to sell now. The other guy says yeah or hold now. The first guy had a lot of reasons too. The other guy just came in unprepared and said ....nah I don't think so.

Plus the wheezing or eating or whatever that way actually annoyed me to the point where I won't tune in again.

I understand what you're saying regarding certain sound issues regarding the Host being at work, also Blogtalk doesn't help depending on the phone, a cell etc. The quality of sound or certain peoples voice's may not appeal to everyone's taste, but the content is unique and has garnered quite a bit of a following in a very short time.BTW.. I'm the guy who broke down Jahvid Best. We also had a game operator call in from Kentucky and his connection wasn't the best. I have no problem with you liking or not liking the show, to each his own. As for myself, no one breaks down and discusses the how's and why' s of moving players for Dyno purposes that way. Jahvid for example. I also make sure it's spoken loud and clear.

See I liked your breakdown, his response seemed unprepared.

Hi LouI appreciate the fact that you're on here and sincere in asking for feedback. For what it's worth, I've been a professional wrestling announcer (insert own joke here) for 20 years. A lot of people really like my work. Some people hate my work. I can point to threads where I absolutely get set on fire.1) If you're getting the following and downloads that you say you are, I have a hard time believing that this was the first negative feedback you ever received. Even the best shows/best broadcasters in the industry have people that give negative feedback. Some people don't like Al Michaels. Some people don't like Bob Costas. Personally, I think they're the best in the business but there are places where they get killed.2) I heard one show last summer. Admittedly, that's probably not fair to hear one show and reach the verdict, "horrific." I hate to think that maybe people caught me on a bad day and went "he's horrific." But that's how it works most of the time in broadcasting. You get one shot at making a good impression. It's even tougher when you're doing a podcast. If people don't like the first one it's hard to get them to give you a second chance. The show I heard last summer was the one right after Brett Favre announced he was coming back to the Vikings. You had some guy on the phone who was the co-host. You had a respected analyst as a guest. 3) You really lost me on the opening. You and your co-host went on and on about how Brett Favre was the second coming of John Wayne, Chuck Yeager, and Ronald Reagan all rolled up into one. You blasted anyone who criticized Favre. I can't tell you exactly how long this went on but it seemed like 10+ minutes. There was no fantasy football analysis. Just building a verbal shrine to Favre. If you're doing a fantasy football show you need to get into it quick. You don't want people going, "Are they going to at least talk about what Favre means from a fantasy perspective?"4) Your guest was good and you did a good job setting him up with questions. 5) Your co-host was gawd awful. Every time a player or situation was brought up he'd exclaim, "I don't like that guy!" or "I'm not drafting him!" That's not even a thoughtful opinion. Cranky and constipated is not a substitute for analysis. What made it worse was the way you structured the segment with your guest. You'd ask a good question and he'd give you an intelligent, well reasoned answer. You'd then ask you co-host and he'd grunt something about, "I like that guy!" or "I'm not drafting him!" If you HAVE to bring in the guy to answer the same question at least let him go first. That way your guest can end the question on a high note with something intelligent. My favorite was when you asked an email question about a 10-team league and your guest answered and your co-host went something like, "10-team leagues are for yahoos. I don't care what those people think!" Way to respect your audience!6) I don't have a problem with you having different opinions. In fact, I welcome them. But the reason guys like me listen to your show or read Web sites is the analysis behind the opinion. Have you a found a trend in stats that makes you think a player is uptrending? Do you think a new offensive coordinator is going to put reins on a previous pass happy offense? I didn't think Tatum Bell was going to be the second coming of Terrell Davis a few years ago but I was interested in the reasons that were given. Even when I don't agree with your conclusion give me something that makes me think.7) I didn't notice it but a couple of people on this thread have mentioned that it sounds like people are eating while recording. Make it a firm rule, "no consuming food or beverage while recording!"Lou, good luck to you. I'll give your show another shot in a week or two.

I've noticed that with that host (Duckworth, I think?) - I listen every week, and can't tell if he's taking a drink of something or if it's a nervous 'gulp' before he starts talking...?This is going to sound bad, but I can't help but be reminded of John the Stutterer on the Howard Stern Show: (have a listen: http://youtu.be/qX5fAS_WpU8?t=3m30s ) Obviously the Big F'n Dynasty guy is nowhere near as bad as John the Stutterer but there's a lot of "Uhm's" and "I...I...I..."'s when he's talking, to the point where it is difficult for me to try to the listen to the show without becoming distracted by his speech/breathing patterns...

I do like the Cash In/Cash Out feature.
