Permanent Keeper league (you keep 1 C, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 3b, 1 ss, 3 of, 1 ut, 5 sp and 3 rp) each years.

I trade Ubaldo Jimenez, Jay Bruce, Corey Hart

I get

Jaime Garcia (SP/RP eligible), Nelson Cruz and Carlos Santana.

Pitchers get 1 pt per IP and SO, 15 per win, 7 pt per save, lose 1 pt per er.

Hitters get 1 pt per base, per run, per rbi, per sb,

Did I get screwed? I don't hink so. Ubaldo has been pitching horrible, Hart is a flash in the pan and Bruce is average.

Garcia has a lot of potential, Cruz is a stud and Santana is an uberstud in the making.

My keepers are now -

Santana

Teixieria

Kinsler

Tulowitzki

Wright

Cruz

Holliday

Hunter (Torrii)

Votto (EH)

Vazquez

Lester

Wainwright

Verlander

Romero (with option to keep Lackey, Volquez or Jurrjenns)

Franklin

Marmol

Papelbon (or Brett Myers or Jaime Garcia who are eligible at RP).

I'm not as sure as you are about Santana but he plays catcher so what he brings at that position gives him more value than someone like Hart. Only problem I have with the deal is why you wanted Garcia, and also you thinking you were trading Ubaldo at a high point because he's gonna start to suck. He's probably been the second best pitcher in baseball this year behind Johnson, I think the gripe they might have is that you should have gotten more. But it's not a bad trade, but the other guy got the best of it IMO.

I agree - they are whining that I got screwed and i don't feel I did. I really felt Nelson and Santana were upgrades over Hart (and Olivo who I had at catcher and who is a career journeyman). I am not going to lie and say Ubaldo isn't better than Garcia or is not an elite talent...but he is wicked wild and prone to losing the strike zone. Long term i may suffer in the pitcher trade - but make up for it big time at the other two positions.

One off topic question: is there a reason your league requires you to keep specific positions instead of a set number?

It would suck if you had to keep, say, a weak C just because of position over another Sp, or a 4th closer if you managed to nab 4, or even a 5th OF who'd be a starter on other teams to rotate into your utility slot.

I guess it helps the draft pool going into each season?

Crazy league - but we are all friends and that is just the way it has been for years. You wind up with some pretty loaded teams. My team listed above is only a 2nd place team - but I am catching up. Having Wright, Votto, Tex, Kinsler and Tulo locked up helps. Nelson gave me a stud at OF and I just need to eventually upgrade Hunter and Holliday as they age off. Sanatana gives me long term depth at c so I can focus on building up my RPs in the next few drafts.
