Put out a request on facebook for suggestions. Had one for Listerine and another for bounce sheets. Snopes disclaims them both, but I'll give it a shot. With the Listerine, you apparantly spray down the floor of the area that you are sitting around. I hear ya. When I started bug banana delivery I didn't know what I was getting myself into. They look so darned cute pulling up in their tiny truck though! I finally had to call and stop delivery. I believe if you are willing to break the law, putting some mercury in the area where they are hatching larvae will eradicate them for a year.

Did you just buy a bunch of thermometers and break them or do you have a mercury hookup? Can you explain further what exactly you did?

Update on the home depot coupon suggestion I once had. I'm not finding them anymore on ebay for cheap, but HD takes the lowes one's that are all over ebay. If you buy one electronic one, you can reprint and reuse as many times as you want until the expiration date as they don't scan it at HD; just manually put in the 10% discount. So the coupon + the cardpool store credit cards equals big savings.
Been doing this alot. Wish it would work online purchases as well, but I'll just take the cardpool savings in that instance.Hopefuly still holding up ok? Just ordered the set yesterday. Picked up an umbrella at Sam's today

The answer is supposed to be Avon-Skin So Soft, but you have to put it on semi frequently. There is also a hose spray bug suppressant that you can use, but it is more for big day party type thing, not every day usage. I have used it before and that worked pretty well, but with little kid, might not want to spray chemicals all over the yard like that.Bugs driving us bananas out here. This stuff does not work.If there isn't a good amount of DEET (>40%) in whatever you are using chances are pretty good it will offer little to no protection.

Yup, this is moneybags. I bought one on eBay and they sent me a PDF of three. Only used one once so far -- the guy just punched in the 10% discount. Pretty sweet. Forgot about that and haven't been using it on my smaller purchases there in recent weeks -- I probably should. Thanks for the heads up.

Crazy the amount of animals out here.
I've lived with places that have your ordinary birds, squirrels, and even an occasional raccoon before (though never raccoons quite so bold as our friend).
But there's more here. Last night a rabbit almost hopped into our den. First time I'd seen one of those around here. Also just looked out our window in the yard and saw a Blue Jay. Had never seen one before -- crazy. As he was hopping along, a bright right cardinal swooped by him (we have lots of those in the yard usually). We walked our kid and friends' kid down to the duck pond down the block today and saw ducks, geese, and even swans.
Definitely a different kind of wild life from Brooklyn. I'm no bird dork but the bright colored birds are pretty freaking cool.

I go the gin route when I'm in the tropics. I drink a #### ton of gin. And if I'm out and about and am getting bitten, I just ask the bartender for a bev nap with gin on it. They know this trick and don't blink an eye, just and you a napkin asked with gin. Rub on legs, voila. No bites. Works like a charm. The quinine in the tonic helps fight off malaria, an added benefit.'the moops said:

SEPTIC TANK QUESTION
Is there a reason a person would want to dig up the pipe that leads to our septic tank?
About a week ago we had a plumbing company in to pump out the septic tank. Given the prior owners I figured it hadn't been done in years, and sure enough they had a record of their company being here about three years ago for the last service. In any event, when the guy first gets to our place, he asks where the tank is. I have no freaking idea. Where I grew up we had sewers, so I'm totally lost. Guy spends about 20 minutes driving a stake into random spots on the lawn where he suspects it could be. Finally Mrs. O rings the former homeowner and she gives us a ballpark idea. Guy finally finds it. It's just a couple inches below the surface. There were a couple of slate-like things there under the dirt to kind of protect it and also to "mark the spot" I assume, so that when you drive a shovel or something in there, you hit it and know you've found it. You move the two slate chunks and below that is a rubber cap on top of a PVC pipe (maybe 6 inches in diameter?) that goes straight down.
Pumping it out goes smoothly enough. Before the guy leaves, he puts the two slate things back on top and reburies the pipe. No big deal.
About two days ago I'm out there with a bottle of that weed killer stuff giving a once-over to the entire lawn. I notice nothing.
Today I look out the window and notice it was dug up. The two chunks of slate were set off to the side of it, the dirt that was on top of those slates removed, and it is dug down to the rubber cap. I keep a close enough eye on the property these days given all the little projects we have going on here, and I would be surprised if this was like this yesterday or even this morning. I think I would have noticed. It was pretty apparent just looking out the dining room window.
Question: why the hell would someone do this? I ran through one possibility that maybe an animal dug it up -- we have squirrels and raccoons and crap digging up little things in our yard all the time. But this was a more substantial digging job, and I even though the slate chunks aren't heavy, I don't think a squirrel could easily move them. They looked like they were moved by a person, set off on either side. Also what the hell does an animal want with my poop? Another option is maybe there was some buildup of gas pressure or something, so the lid blew and the dirt popped up and the slates moved off to the sides. But then again, the rubber cap seemed to be in place, and nothing like that has happened since we've moved in.
If you're a random stranger, I don't think you would even know where this thing was. But are these the kinds of things people dig up and then steal -- like maybe sometiems they have a fancy expensive cap on the pipe? Did someone from the plumbing company come back and dig it up without telling us to take a look at something? Prior owner disgruntled and screwing with us? Wife's ex boyfriend shoving a stick of dynamite down there and hoping I'll be next to flush?
I just can't imagine someone would come up onto our lawn in broad daylight or at night time and start digging up our septic tank outlet for no good reason. And this looks like the work of a person.
Any ideas? I'm completely shuked here.

I'm not sure what it's called in NY but there is a state agency that "checks up" on septic tank pumping companies (they make sure the tank has been completely emptied) Many septic companies 1/2 pump out the tanks so they get to come back sooner plus you get charged for a full pump out. It was probably the septic services dude/dudette making sure you got fully pumped out.squirrels...

Isn't this a short amount of time for a septic tank needing to be pumped? I can never recall needing our septic tank being pumped out at my parents' house when I was growing up.

septic tanks can be a headache. When we bought our place, there was a real concern whether or not the ground could properly "perk". It checked out okay, but there was a fear we'd end up with some ugly above ground tank

There is a fine line between manly and stupid. Pretty sure I crossed that line a couple weeks ago.
That being said I completed PART 1 of my project. The tools pictured were the only ones used, minus my 2 guns...
Take your chainsaw and stick it pretty boys, this is how you cut down a tree and then remove the stump!!!
God did it take way longer and was harder than I thought compared to others. The tree was only about 20 feet tall and stump grinder was not an option since it's "top of the yard".
Worst thing ever, my 2011 seemed like a good idea at the time.....
